SIXTY THREE
Tim sat quietly at the gate waiting for time to board their flight home. He was zoned out thinking about the last few weeks since they had gone back on tour. That first show back was rough with the question about Adams lovebite and the 'knowing' smiles during the signing line when the fans saw Jenikas. It hadn't taken long for the pictures, of both of them, to show up online. Every fan seemed to have an opinion and wanted to speculate.
Adam only needed to repeat the line about his personal life for a few shows before the fans got the hint and stopped asking. Still, Tim made sure not to leave anymore visible marks. He still left marks just not where anyone could see them. Tim smiled as he thought about some of the places that Adam and Jenika currently had lovebites.
His smile faded quickly as he thought of the things he had seen written on the Facebook pages: I bet they look so cute together, I really wish they would just tell us what's going on, I so want a picture of them together, etc... Tim hated to admit that he was jealous of all the attention they were getting and it was only going to get worse. Yes, it was unwanted attention but it was still attention.
Tim didn't really want to publicize his relationship but he didn't want to hide it either. He just wanted the choice to be his and right now it wasn't. His only option was to sit back and watch his two loves prepare to announce their relationship and their baby. Tim was drawn out of his thoughts by a familiar voice.
"Son of a bitch." Adam whisper shouted. Tim looked around to see him staring at his phone with a mixture of anger and sadness.
Adam looked up from his phone to see Tim and Jenika both staring at him with questioning looks. "Problem?" Tim asked.
"Uh" Adam hesitated. "Um, Rob just texted me." He paused again. "You know, I don't think the airport is the best place to talk about this. Just forget about it until we get home."
"Really?" Tim questioned. "You don't get to yell 'son of a bitch' and look your phone angrily just to tell us to forget about it for hours."
"I'm with Tim on this one" Jenika added. "Spill it."
Adam sighed heavily, "There is a new picture up on the fan page and it's already got hundreds of comments."
"What new picture?" Jenika asked. "We haven't been anywhere public together, there are no visible marks. What are they taking pictures of?"
Adam handed his phone to Tim so he and Jenika could look at it together. Jenikas hand flew up to cover her mouth while Tim just closed his eyes and tried to control his myriad of emotions. He knew he couldn't lash out here in the airport. Adam removed his phone from Tims hands before he dropped it.
"I guess we need to figure out our public statement sooner rather than later" Jenika said once she was over the initial shock of what she saw.
The gate agent announced that their zone was boarding. Tim stood immediately and grabbed his carry on. "Well you've got an entire flight to talk about it." He said before heading to the boarding door.
Tim took his seat and was trying to get comfortable when TJ joined him in their row. Adam and Jenika took the seats across the aisle. They all got settled and prepared for take-off in silence. Tim was staring out the window when he felt Adam touch his arm gently.
"Tim, are you okay?" Adam asked quietly as he leaned into the aisle to look at Tim.
"Yeah, I'm fine." He said quickly. "Don't you and Jenika have something to talk about?" Tim looked away from Adam and back towards the window to stare at the world passing beneath them.
Tim was lost in his thoughts again. Jenika had been so careful to keep everything hidden. She had started to show much earlier and had gotten bigger faster this time compared to her last pregnancy. She was just now 18 weeks but had long abandoned jeans for leggings that would sit below her bump and she had bought looser shirts to wear on show days.
None of that mattered anymore. Not now that that picture was out there. It really pissed him off. They were used to people taking pictures of them and even encouraged it sometimes but to take a picture through a window when the subject is completely unaware is just wrong.
Yes, they were in the lobby of the venue but all the fans had left and they were taking down the merch table. Jenika was helping Nate so they could finish up and make their flights on time. Apparently when she raised her arms to grab the display her shirt lifted enough to show her bump. Of course there had to be a fan looking through the windows with camera in hand.
"Tim" Adam said for the third time. This time he reached across the aisle and shook him a little.
"What?" Tim growled loudly as he looked at Adam angrily.
Adam quickly pulled his hand back as he spoke quietly. "We're landing soon. Can you put TJs tray table up and make sure his seatbelt is fastened?"
'What the hell was that?' Adam wondered. Tim had never snapped at him like that before. Maybe it was just because he had woken him up. He was going to with that answer for now.
As soon as they stepped off the plane Jenika had texted Ericha that they were on their way to the pick-up area. She was waiting outside the car when they exited the terminal. She knew, the instant she saw them, that something was wrong. They all looked tense and nobody was talking.
Ericha had brought Jenikas minivan so they would have plenty of room to fit everyone. Tim got in and sat in the back row. Adam followed him to the back row while TJ got into his booster seat in the middle row. Ericha took the passenger seat so Jenika could drive her own vehicle home.
The drive was long and quiet. Jenika wasn't talking so Ericha would occasionally glance in the backseat hoping that someone would say something. She was disappointed each time. Tim was staring out the window ignoring his boyfriend next to him. Adam watched Tim the whole drive just hoping he would look around and talk to him.
Ericha had no idea what had happened but she had an uneasy feeling in her gut.
