SEVENTY THREE
Adam was pulled out of a pleasant dream by the incessant droning of his alarm. He slowly stretched his arms over his head and started to roll over. He reached across the bed, to turn it off, without opening his eyes.
"What the f*ck?" Adam groaned out in his sleepy, morning voice as his hand bumped into someone and his eyes flew open quickly.
"Oh my God. You scared the shit out of me." He said as his eyes focused on Tim sitting beside him.
"Am I that ugly in the mornings?" Tim asked with a pout.
Adam reached out to caress Tim's cheek, "Oh God no, babe! I just wasn't expecting to see you there."
Tim gave Adam a questioning look, "You didn't expect to see me here? In my own bed? Really?"
'Shit, shit, shit' Adam thought to himself. Had Tim figured out that he was in on Jenika's plan? He thought quick. "Honestly, no. Not this morning." Adam said, "I usually feel you climb into bed even if I'm already asleep but I didn't this time." Adam smiled; he was being completely honest. "I figured you must have fallen asleep on the couch or maybe slept with Jenika so you didn't wake me..."
Tim leaned forward and kissed Adam without warning, "Shut up, Adam. You're babbling." He whispered into his lovers lips. Adam smiled and kissed Tim back for just a moment. He knew they needed to get up and get moving and he didn't want to start anything that might slow them down.
Adam leaned back and really looked at Tim now that he was more awake and his eyes had really focused. He saw that Tim was already showered, dressed, and ready to go. "How long have you been up?"
"Oh, about an hour now. We are all ready to go except you." Tim smirked.
"But my alarm just went off. What the hell?" Adam suddenly looked serious, "Did I set it wrong?" Adam flew out of bed and was racing around trying to get all his last minute stuff packed up.
Tim laughed as he watched his boyfriend run around in a panic, "Adam, calm down. You are not running late. We were just up early. Relax, go take a shower, and we'll hit the road."
A few hours later they were on the plane headed for their show that evening. Adam had his head leaned back, eyes closed, and headphones on. Tim's early morning had caught up with him and he had fallen asleep shortly after take-off. Adam's eyes opened as he felt Tim's head lean against his shoulder. He grabbed his phone and took a quick selfie with his sleeping lover.
Adam looked across the aisle and saw that TJ was watching a movie. He took this opportunity to ask Jenika about her night with Tim. Adam was thankful this plane had wifi and hoped Jenika had enabled hers. He pulled out his phone and sent her a text.
(Texting in Italics)
Adam- How was your night last night?
Jenika- It was interesting. :)
Adam- Interesting? How so?
Jenika- As much as I could tell he just wanted to get it over with he had to keep slowing things down so he could cool off.
Adam- I can definitely see that.
Jenika- I had to stop myself from giggling a couple times.
Adam- SMH.
Jenika- I pretended to argue with him when he said the night was only about me but I eventually let him roll over and go to sleep. I was gentle with him like you asked me to be.
Adam- Thank you. I appreciate it.
Jenika- You going to stop torturing him soon?
Adam- Soon. I have a plan.
Adam put his phone down and leaned his head back. He got lost in his music for the rest of the flight. The drive from the airport to the venue wasn't long and they were soon back on the bus getting their belongings settled.
Tim was standing just inside the backdoor of the venue staring outside, seemingly lost in thought. Adam slowly walked up behind him and wrapped his arms around Tim's waist as he rested his chin on his shoulder.
"What's going on inside that head of yours?" Adam asked quietly.
"Not much" Tim replied. "Just enjoying the sun, and the peace and quiet."
"You sure?" Adam frowned. "You seemed awfully serious over here."
Tim turned around in Adam's arms, "I'm sure. He looked around Adam to make sure they were alone. "I'm sorry about the other night" He said as he looked at his feet.
"What?" Adam was confused. "What about the other night? What are you sorry for?"
"For what I said in anger" Tim sighed. "When I asked if you really love me."
Adam pulled Tim into tight hug, "Babe, it's okay. It's already been forgotten."
Tim pulled back a little to look directly at his boyfriend. "No, Adam, it's not okay." Tim was on the verge of tears. "It was a horrible thing to say and I feel terrible about it. You've never done anything to make me feel unloved or unwanted. You check on me constantly to make sure I'm doing okay with everything that is going on and even ask me before you make social media posts." Tim wiped his eyes as he took a breath, "I made you second guess yourself for no good reason. I was just being petulant." Tim looked away as he finished his sentence.
"No, baby, no" Adam said as he hooked his finger under Tim's chin and turned his head so they were eye to eye again. "This situation sucks and I can't imagine what it feels like to be in your shoes. I accept your apology for what you said but please don't negate your feelings just because you think you shouldn't have them. You were not being petulant."
Adam held Tim close for a moment before taking his hand and leading him to his dressing room. They sat on the couch facing each other as Adam spoke, "You want to hear what it really means to be petulant?" Tim nodded his head slowly. He wasn't sure where Adam was going with this.
"Do you remember how I acted in the days and weeks after Chris left?" Adam asked. Tim nodded again.
"You all assumed I was upset and being an asshole because my brother left, right?" Adam questioned as he looked to Tim for confirmation.
"Yeah, we talked about it a little. That was what we figured." Tim answered.
"That wasn't it at all" Adam admitted. "Yes, he's my brother but we had spent our whole lives together up to that point. I was glad to finally be on my own."
"Then why were you acting the way you were?" Tim was really confused.
Adam looked down at his lap. He was embarrassed but he knew he needed to give Tim this information. He finally looked up as he spoke, "Tim, I was attracted to you back then. I would say now that I even loved you back then but was afraid to damage our friendship by saying anything." Adam paused to take a deep breath. "I was acting like an asshole because I was jealous of you kissing Chris." Adam looked away again. "I was so envious and I was pissed that my brother, who was just a friend, got to experience your kiss and here I was, in love with you, not knowing if I ever would." Adam raised his eyes back to Tim, "That is being petulant."
Tim pulled Adam close as he tried to hide is smile. "What are you smirking at?" Adam asked.
"I'm sorry" Tim chuckled. "It's not funny but with what I know now it seems like it should have been obvious. I'm sorry you had to go through that but I do agree that is a good example of petulance."
"It's not funny" Adam laughed. "I was seriously pissed. It was the only time in my life that I wished I was my brother."
Tim kissed Adam gently before speaking, "He may have gotten a kiss first" (kiss) "But he only got one." (kiss) "You can have my kisses" (kiss) "whenever" (kiss) "you" (kiss) "want them". Tim took Adam's lips in a passionate kiss, for a few minutes, until he heard a knock on the door and Olena shouting that it was showtime. The lovers pulled apart and smiled at each other before walking out the door hand in hand.
