Chapter 10
"Excuse me gents my friend here really would like to play a game. I hope that's all right." Flynn said going up to the table and pointing out Hallie.
The three men looked towards Hallie who waved in response.
"Does she have money?" The taller business man asked.
"Why of course! Hal come on over." Flynn said.
Hallie came over and took a seat. "Thank you so much for letting me play. My friend always plays and I thought I could try it out."
"As long as you have money to spare kid." The other business man said. "We're playing Texas hold up,
Hallie sat down and looked at the cards that were dealt and smiled.
Hallie knocked when her turn came up, the other men laid out their cards and she laid hers.
"What kind of a hand is that?" Asked the tall man pointing out Hallie's cards.
"What isn't that a good hand?" She asked meekly.
"That's nothing all you have is a three of clubs and a 5 of spades nothing matches up." The other one said.
"No but they're all the same color, isn't that a flush?" She asked.
The old man in the Hawaiian shirt let out out a muffled chuckle.
"That's if their in the same suit. It's a good thing you only wagered 40 dollars kid." The tall man said.
"Oh that's right I always get those mixed up sorry I'll try better." She said.
The next round Hallie was in the zone. She began thinking of statistics in her head of the chances of her opponents beating her. Both the business men had easy tells. The tall one would scratch his nose if he had a good hand and the short one would bite his lip if he was bluffing. The old man however didn't have a tell it seemed.
The cards were dealt and the dealer put out the house's cards. She grinned she had a straight. She didn't even have to exchange a card. This was too easy.
Hallie knocked when her turn came around the business men grinned knowing she probably forgot the rules again but when she laid her cards down they were in shock. She had a straight.
"Hey I think I'm getting the hang of this." Hallie said.
"Wow she's a natural." Flynn said.
Meanwhile...
"Do you want to play a game?" Rosalie asked Peder.
They were sitting at the Starbucks counter that faced the outside window.
"Sure." Peder said.
"Okay it's called stranger narration. You point someone out and narrate what you think they're thinking." Rosalie said.
"Sounds fun. You pick who goes first." Peder said.
Rosalie looked outside and saw a little girl wearing a messy black ponytail and holding a tiny race car in her hand. and her father's in the other. She seemed to be annoyed while her big father waiting for the crosswalk.
Rosalie pointed at the little girl "I can't believe he's dragging me off to some meeting again. One day I'm going to take over the world where everyone has to drive race cars and not bother with meetings." She said making her voice squeaky her to fit a child.
The little girl started to look at something and wanted to walk over but her father wouldn't let her "Unhand me fool I must see the shiny object from down the street."
Peder started to laugh "okay that was too easy."
"Oh yeah I'd like to see you try." Rosalie said.
"Can I do it in third person?" He asked.
"I guess."
A man walking in a very nice gray suit and briefcase was walking down the street.
"Here we see the legendary superhero business man, protector of the business world. If you need fair bookkeeping he's your man. Watch as he walks with such determination to beat out any tax frauds that walk his way." Peder said lowering his voice.
Rosalie laughed "Wait this is so much better in third person,"
"Do you play this with Flynn a lot?" Peder asked.
Rosalie looked down at her drink "we used to not much anymore. Our dad used to take us to this donut shop before work ever weekend and we would play it there." She smiled thinking of the memory. "This one time a lady caught my dad pointing at her and she gave him an annoyed look and he still went on with narration he imitated her saying 'why is this attractive police man pointing to me on the street? I hope it wasn't for that parking ticket two weeks ago.'"
"That's the big chief all right." Peder said.
"He wasn't always the big chief. He's really fun when he's not working. I know many pranks now thanks to him." She said proudly.
"Oh yeah my favorite was when you dyed Flynn's hair white and convinced him that it happened over night. Your dad even came in to see what was going on and he rolled with it saying that's how it happened to him he woke up and it was all white!" Peder laughed "Flynn freaked out."
"You want to know a secret?" She asked.
"Sure why not." Peder said.
"I found a picture of my dad when he was around ten and he had brown hair so either it did just turn white one day or he still dyes it."
Peder was taken aback, "what?! I couldn't imagine your dad with brown hair if I tried!"
"I know it's weird. My mom used to be blonde like me so who knows maybe one day I'll wake up and it's white."
"I'll make sure to call you old lady if that happens."
"Shut up." She pushed him playfully.
