Chapter 1
I Am Possible say Impossible
Faith is the first factor in a life devoted to service. Without it, nothing is possible. With it, nothing is impossible.
-Mary McLeod Bethune
“Impossible” stated the coach breaking Shruti’s heart.
Shruti was never a winner. Rather you can say a nerd by choice happy in her own world with no boyfriends and friends, her only best friend being her books.
Like all others she wanted to be popular and enjoy her life but was constrained to her fears and insecurities.
Now when the pro of the field was stating her child’s destiny she felt history repeating itself.
No she won't let it happen to her child. She’d suffered enough with her defeats and lack of success in life.
This was after a tournament that Piu played in one of the interstate tournaments.
A little briefing about the speed skating in India:-
Speed skating a popular sport in India and very successful as a child as less as three years of age can start skating and can also participate in state and national level tournaments in under 4 years age category.
In a tournament there are three events including two rink races and one road race. Rink races include speed racing and time trials which depends on the time taken by an individual skater to complete a lap and the skater with minimum time taken to finish a lap wins. The speed skating is like a normal race that of athletes with heats followed by final race of top six or seven players.
Road race is similar to speed race in rink but we do not have heats all the players run randomly after the clap is heard. The skater to reach the finishing line first wins the gold and the later win silver and bronze according to their positions.
So in all the probability of earning a medal in a tournament is 3:9 that is quite a fair chance of winning.
So after the splendid performance by Piu on her road event, her mom was in euphoria of Piu’s promising future in the sport.
Though she didn't win but she stood at fourth place which was very close to bronze medal and being in under-4 age category she had another year to compete in the same age group.
Though disappointed that she was way away to even qualify for the final race in the rink she still stood smiling at her cherub’s performance at the road race.
Chubby and tall for her age with a very fair complexion which is a rare thing among Indians; a smile was all Piu could give to make her mom fall for her each day. Her slender body which was perfect for an athlete made her mom loves her dad even more simply for blessing her with a beauty an angel that she calls her daughter.
So in excitement while traveling back home Shruti asked the coach “what do you think is Piu’s future in the field of skating?”
“Well if you want to know my opinion” the coach named Amit (name changed) replied “she has absolutely no future in the game.”
“What sir?” Shruti asked skeptically if she heard right.
“Yes she won't be winning any prizes or medals in coming years in the sport.” He stated casually which she felt was heartless but continued listening to him for anxiety had taken over command of her senses.
“Speed - the biggest ingredient required for the sport ma'am is missing in your daughter and so her career in skating is ’IMPOSSIBLE’
The rest of the ride back home in the bus Shruti went silent seated on her seat wondering if she had inherited her defeats or passed on her genes of being a failure in life to her daughter.
Welcomed by a huge hug by the love of her life, the stress of the negative view point by the coach diminished like a puff of smoke in the air.
Though their marriage was arranged but Govind her husband was sensible enough to give some space and time to his wife, he made it a point not to consummate their wedding till she fell in love with him.
He on the other hand was affirmative that Shruti was his first and only love as it was love at first sight for him; first victory in the life of Shruti was winning love- a rare jewel and she was blessed wholesomely with the same.
So the biggest IMPOSSIBLE thing ‘love that Shruti assumed in her life came running to her saying I m possible.
A smile widened her jaw lines as he kissed her on her lips giving new hopes and new dreams erasing all the negatives that were imparted by the coach to her.
As she promised to herself “I will make it possible Priyangana (Piu). I will show to the world that YOU can WIN”
Piu can win
Piu will win
