(The Mary Janes arc) Part 3

After exiting the apartment, Peter took a bus to begin his search. He sat by the far back before opening his backpack to retrieve his laptop, right as he does, he noticed two bracelets inside along with a few discs.

Setting his laptop on the seat next to him, Peter took the bracelets and saw that it was a prototype version of his web-shooters. Peter tossed the web-shooters back inside before checking the bag that he took.

Peter: "Uh-Oh"

The bus then departs before Peter could stand up to go back to the apartment, leaving him with Y/n's prototype web-shooters and his laptop.

Peter: *shrug* "I'm sure he wouldn't mind"

Grabbing his laptop from the seat next to him, he places it on his lap before accessing the net.

Peter: "Alright...let's see what Ms 'Gayle Watson' can bring to the table..."

ACcessing the Watson profile, Peter scrolled past Mary Jane's profile along with her parents and went straight to her sister. 'Gayle Watson'.

Peter: "Name: Gayle Watson-Byrnes; Place of Birth: Montoursville, Pennsylvania; Spouse: Timothy Brynes..."

Peter then scrolls deeper through her profile and found some notes relating to her.

Peter: "Holy..."

After finding out about the death of their mother, Madeline Watson, Gayle Watson left her family and dreams to marry Timothy Brynes and later have a son. The two then went on to have a child, it is then the couple would face domestic problems and has a track record of hostile encounters ring marriage counseling.

Peter: "How the heck does this note be so detailed?"

D.A.R.C: "I took the liberty of compressing all the necessary details for you"

Peter: "Aaahhh!"

Peter immediately covered his mouth before looking around and noticed that he was alone aside from a few people at the front while the driver couldn't care less and instead focused on the road ahead.

Peter: *whisper* "D.A.R.C? What are you doing on my computer? And how did you get this much information?"

D.A.R.C: "I took it upon myself to install myself onto your O.S, you can consider us partners for the time being"

Peter: *hesitant* "Okay..."

D.A.R.C: "As for I compiled the information on Ms. Gayle Watson, I merely took all the information the FBI has and simply duplicated it"

Peter: "You hacked the FBI?"

D.A.R.C: "Hacking The Federal Bureau of Intelligence is child's play for me"

Peter: "Right..."

D.A.R.C: "It would seem that Mr. Byrnes is close by"

Peter: "Seriously?"

D.A.R.C: "Take the next bus stop"

Peter then shuts off his laptop before placing it in Y/n's bag. Once the bus has stopped, Peter swings the bag over his shoulder and got off the bus, when the bus leaves, Peter turns around and sees he had arrived at a Junkyard.

Peter: "You sure this is the right place D.A.R.C?"

D.A.R.C: "I'm positive"

Peter heard D.A.R.C's voice in his pocket, he reached over his pocket and pull out his phone and see that D.A.R.C has uploaded herself to Peter's phone.

D.A.R.C: "The RFID tracker in his phone pinged his location right here"

Peter: "So you're just gonna keep uploading yourself to all of my other devices?"

D.A.R.C: "I could upload myself to any device, including Mr. Byrnes. Do you want me to? It would greatly reduce the workload we have to do"

Peter: "Wait, you could just do that? I mean, no! It's bad enough we hacked the FBI to figure out their lives, we'll have to do this investigation ourselves from now on"

D.A.R.C: "You humans and your complicated moral compasses"

Peter: "Whatever the case...let's just see what we can find out"

D.A.R.C: "By performing an act of breaking?"

Peter: "Well, I don't suppose you could upload yourself to the non-existent security cameras in a junkyard to find him?"

D.A.R.C: "...Proceed"

Peter: "That's what I thought"

Putting his phone back in his pocket before slowly scaling up the chain fence, Peter lands on the small muddy pond just on the other side of the fence.

Once he was in, Peter decides to take a look around to see what he could find. Seeing nothing but scrap bodies of vehicles and rusty metal bins, he scours deeper into the Junkyard but he all found the same and no signs of Timothy Byrnes.

Peter: *sigh* "You sure this was the right place?"

Before he could get an answer, Peter took a few steps back and bumps into a barrel. He turns around and noticed a yellow barrel in mint condition, Peter crouched to get a good look at the barrel and immediately noticed an Alchemax logo plastered on the side.

Peter: *pulls out phone* "Hey, D.A.R.C. Run my diagnostic program, I wanna see what this stuff is"

D.A.R.C: "Assessing..."

Peter's phone then showed a progress bar filling up quickly before showing a box with a description of a chemical compound called 'Diox-3'

D.A.R.C: "It seems to be a preservative for plants, but with the chemical makeup in the barrel it provides side-effects to humans who are exposed to much to the chemicals"

Peter: "And I'm pretty sure a highly paid industry wouldn't just dumb their barrels full of chemicals in a junkyard. Somethings up, I should call Y/n"

???: "Is that all of the stuff?"

???2: "Not yet, there's one more over there"

Peter: *under breath* "Crap..."

Looking around for a place to hide, Peter quickly dove under a rusty car for cover as a burly man in denim wheeled over a barrel lift and scoop up the barrel before wheeling it to the others.

When he saw that the coast was clear, Peter peeks out of his cover and saw the goon wheeling the barrel over to a white truck. Peter then saw the man that is bringing the barrel walk passed a man in similar clothing, with his defining features were his shaggy black hair and his rugged facial hair.

D.A.R.C: "That's Timothy Byrnes"

Peter: "You sure?"

D.A.R.C: "Peter, I am an Artificial Intelligence that has complete control of the internet...to an extent. I think I know when I'm wrong"

Peter: "Okay, enough with the sass (Man, Y/n really is her creator) Alright, let's move"

D.A.R.C: "Shouldn't we inform Y/n of our situation?"

Peter: "It'll be fine, plus this is what we came here for. We're gonna see if we could dig up anything shady"

D.A.R.C: "I could always gather data on his history on the net"

Peter: "That won't be enough, in this world, you gotta need solid evidence. Anything digital can just be faked, so there goes its liability"

D.A.R.C: "I see...I have much to learn"

Peter: "You'll get there. Now come on, I think they're about to move out"

Peter looks back and saw Timothy pull down the truck's door, shutting it close before securing it with a padlock and slamming the side of the truck.

Timothy: "Set 'er off!"

Timothy then walked off further into the junkyard as several more men in denim walk around to do their assigned tasks.

Peter: "Time to do a bit of snooping..."

Crawling out of his hiding spot, Peter secures his backpack before sneaking his way deeper into the Junkyard. In the distance, Peter sees Timothy's head inside a door that looked to be his office.

Peter: "That probably looks important..."

Peter hears footsteps shuffling over to him, he quickly dove towards a scrap pile and lets the men that were patrolling pass by before moving deeper in.

Peter: "Woah, hang on a second..."

Peter stopped in his tracks before straying from his path to discover a long table with lab equipment strung across the tabletop. Peter quickly reaches for his phone and took pictures of the pseudo lab.

Peter: "Now what are they doing setting up a lab in a junkyard?"

D.A.R.C: "Judging from the suspicious antics these people have and the unsanitary work environment, I deduce it is illegal drugs"

Peter: "That was rhetorical D.A.R.C, of course, it's drugs. But what kind?"

Before Peter could inspect the ingredients used in the makeshift lab, he hears footsteps coming toward him. He quickly looks around before settling to hide inside a beaten-up trunk of an old car as 2 men in denim walk inside the lab.

Man in Denim #1: "How do you think the boss knows about this stuff? Is he some sort of chemist or somethin'?"

Man in Denim #2: "Beats me, but I heard the boss was exposed to this stuff when he was a kid"

Man in Denim #1: "So he's basically an expert in all of this?"

Man in Denim #2: "Who knows, but if you're asking me, I wouldn't care either way. Boss pays good money for this stuff"

Man in Denim #1: "Yeah, I guess you're right. Money is the only thing that matters"

Man in Denim #2: "You're damn right"

The men then left allowing Peter to hop out of the trunk once the coast was clear.

Peter: "D.A.R.C, you said something about Diox-3 having side effects on humans who are exposed to much to the chemicals, right?"

D.A.R.C: "I did"

Peter: "What are those side effects exactly?"

D.A.R.C: "Hmm...I need some time to do some research"

Peter: "I'll leave you to it then"

Peter then resumed forward, slipping past more guards and hiding between natural cover to avoid unwanted attention;

As he was about to cross to the next area of the yard, Peter hears the sound of multiple engines in the distance, he looks behind him and saw the headlight of 3 motorcycles in the distance heading towards him.

Before he would manage to get caught, Peter dives into a shed to let the bikers ride past him. While inside, Peter used the flashlight on his phone to check his surroundings and found several small crates all around him.

Peter crouched over to one of them and moved its lid and saw a disposable mask with a reverse-engineered filter that dispenses gas from a tube that's connected at the front of the mask.

Peter: "These filters shouldn't be working this way, it's almost like they're making recyclable inhalers. But these vials...they aren't for the usual MDIs, so what are they inhaling?"

Before Peter could come up with an answer, he heard motorcycles stop right in front of the shed. Peter quickly puts the mask away before closing up the crate and finding a place to hide.

He quickly spots a crate slightly larger than the others and just big enough to fit him, it was the best hiding spot at the moment. Having little time left, Peter quickly dove inside the crate and shuts it over him as two more men in denim walked inside the shed.

Man in Denim #4: "So you made all this stuff?"

Man in Denim #3: "Yep, spent all night perfecting these bad boys. Now we could finally mass produce these puppies for the boss"

Man in Denim #4: "I'm sure he'll be pretty happy about this one"

Man in Denim #3: "I sure hope it does, otherwise I would've wasted a perfectly good sleep"

The men then grabbed a few crates before walking out.

Man in Denim #3: "Come on, we could come back for the rest later"

The men then strapped the crates onto their motorcycles before riding off. Once they were finally gone, Peter carefully slipped out of his hiding place and carefully plops the cover back onto the crate.

D.A.R.C: "I've managed to figure out the side effects of Diox-3"

Peter: "So? What did you find?"

D.A.R.C: "Diox-3 when exposed to it long enough, would cause a person's skin to turn stark white and toughening up to the point where the person becomes invulnerable"

Peter: "Woah...and Alchemax made all of that?"

D.A.R.C: "I don't think it was meant to be an invulnerability inducing chemical, it's more of a misfortunate side-effect"

Peter: "Well...let's hope we could wrap this up quickly so we could tell Y/n all about this"

D.A.R.C: "Or we could inform him of our current predicament"

Peter: "You just wouldn't get it...come on, it's just a short distance away"

Peter hears dozen more motorcycles pulling up around the junkyard, he had to move quickly to avoid getting spotted.

He manages to reach the office and hugged the corner as Timothy had walked out of his office while talking on his phone.

Timothy: "Yes, boss...I'll be right there"

Timothy shuts the door to his office before hastily walking out. Once he was out of sight, Peter slips into his office and carefully shuts the door closed. Peter then checks around to see if his assumption was correct and he was quickly met with a bulletin board with blueprints along with a whiteboard that was a formula written on it.

Peter: "Holy...Gayle's husband is doing something shady"

Peter then took his phone out again and took pictures of the bulletin board that showed a building for an Alchemax expo that is slated to unveil a few weeks from now, along with a sticky note for a number of an unlisted contact. He then turns around and snagged a picture of the whiteboard right across from it.

Peter: "Alright, now to send this to Y/n and get on out of here"

But before Peter could bring up Y/n's contact, 2 pairs of heavy footsteps were making their way towards him.

Peter: "Oh, man..."

Looking around, Peter spots a cabinet close by. He quickly and quietly made his way over to it and climbed in before carefully shutting the cabinet, leaving a small crack for him to peek through.

The door to the office swings open, as Timothy makes his way inside.

Timothy: "The packages are on their way to the warehouse as planned boss, the formula worked a treat"

???: "Good..."

As Timothy walked to the middle of the room, another pair of footsteps made itself known, this one being heavier than Timothy's. A tall shadow then loomed over Timothy but he wasn't phased by it and instead turned around to face the shadow as a large man with white skin walked inside, towering over Timothy.

Peter: *whisper* "That is a VERY big dude..."

Boss: "Have the men drive the rest of the cargo to the warehouse, we'll have them sent out to the rest of the gangs...For a strict price"

Timothy: "Consider it done"

The large man then stomped out of the office followed by Timothy, once they were gone, Peter carefully stepped out of the cabinet before carefully making his way over to the door to slip away, only for the door to open, causing Peter to hug behind the door as it opens.

Timothy rushes inside and rummages around his table in search of something, while he was preoccupied, Peter took this chance to slip out of the office and closes the door behind him right as TImothy looks back just as the door closes.

He quickly grabbed what he needed and ran to the door and swings it open to see if anyone is around. Peter manages to hide behind a barrel just close to the office and wait with bated breath.

Timothy: "Search around! There's a rat around here and I don't want the boss knowing about it!"

Timothy then heads back inside as he sent the entire yard under high alert, sending the bikers and everyone around to raise their guard.

Peter: "This isn't good..."

D.A.R.C: "Do you still have Y/n's web-shooters?"

Peter: "Yeah?"

D.A.R.C: "Now might be a good time to use it"

Peter: "How? I can't just swing myself out of here? I can't do that, I'll dislocate my shoulders"

D.A.R.C: "Though the web-shooters have yet to implement Y/n's gadgets, they are enough to be used as their own"

Peter rummages through his bag before slipping on Y/n's prototype web-shooters.

Peter: "Well...guess I get to have a taste of what it feels to be Spider-man"

Over at the Parker residence, Y/n is seen laying on the ceiling with Gwen as they enjoy their time to themselves while they have the chance as they accompany it with music from Y/n's laptop.

Gwen: "So you and Peter made the laptops yourselves?"

Y/n: "Yup, hustled every working part from a second-hand shop. Thankfully every scrap we had was at least in the present time"

Gwen: "Hey, are you sure Peter would be okay alone? Don't you think May is gonna get worried?"

Y/n: "Knowing him...he won't stop for anything if it means helping someone. Plus he's not a kid anymore, I think he can manage it himself"

Peter: "I most definitely can't handle this myself!"

Back at the junkyard, Peter is seen running away from a group of bikers, Peter webs over a stray metal that he was about to run by and pulls it towards him, sending the stacked scraps to come tumbling down right as Peter runs by, blocking the bikers from pursuing him.

D.A.R.C: "Take a left now!"

Peter follows her directions and takes the incoming left only to be met by a large wall of scrap.

Peter: "This is a dead-end"

D.A.R.C: *tch* "It appears my prediction of the yard is misleading. I need to recalibrate for a reassessment"

Man in Denim #1: *distant* "I think he went this way, come on!"

Peter: "We don't have time for a recalibration"

He then looks around for any place he could hide and settled under the pile of old car bodies. As he crawls deeper into the pile, the group of bikers catches up to where they last saw Peter.

Man in Denim #1: "Where the hell did that little pipsqueak go?!"

Man in Denim #2: "He couldn't have gone far, let's search the place. Otherwise, the boss might kill us if he ever finds out"

The group of bikers then dispersed in search of Peter as he hyperventilate under the pile of scrap.

Peter: "Okay...I think we lost them"

D.A.R.C: "I highly suggest we inform Y/n of our predicament"

Peter: "No! It's fine, just...focus on recalibrating so we could get out of here"

D.A.R.C: "...It would be more suitable if we would increase the altitude of our position"

Peter crawls out of his hiding place before looking around for any suitable high ground, he then sets his eyes on a pile of junk that's tall enough to overlook the yard.

Peter: "That could be good, would take a while for us to climb without making any noise"

D.A.R.C: "I believe Y/n also made another invention along with the web-shooters"

Peter: "Oh, right. The discs..."

Peter kneels and rummages through his bag and pulled out one of the discs.

Peter: "What does it do?"

Peter then presses something on the disc, causing segments of it to pull apart creating a star

Peter: "What is this?"

D.A.R.C: "Y/n has used the gravity manipulation tech I used previously and constructed a new device to aid him in battle. I believe he calls it the 'Suspension Matrix'"

Peter: "Uh-huh...what does it do exactly?"

D.A.R.C: "It levitates his opponents into the air, you might use this to traverse up the hill quicker"

Peter: "Not a bad idea"

Peter then makes his way towards the pile and toses the matrix next to it. The Suspension Matrix then emits a blue light around it before a thin pillar of blue light emits from its center.

When the matrix was fully activated, Peter could see pebbles pick up from the ground around it as dust from the center was being brought high into the air. Seeing no obvious harm, Peter decides to jump to the center, letting out a slight muse of excitement as the Suspension Matrix brought Peter to the top of the pile.

Peter: "Woah...can't believe that worked. Haha!"

After regaining his composure, Peter pulls out his phone to let D.A.R.C get a clear view of the Junkyard.

Peter: "Alright D.A.R.C, Do your thing"

D.A.R.C: "Recalibrating..."

Using the acquired high ground, D.A.R.C used the camera on Peter's phone to scan the Junkyard to make a map from scratch. Now equipped with the proper knowledge, D.A.R.C mapped the exit from Peter's position.

D.A.R.C: "Calibration complete"

Peter: "That was quick"

D.A.R.C: "Move 3 degrees to the left, you will see a gate leading to the exit"

Peter does what he was instructed and spots a gate leading out of the junkyard.

Peter: "Oh, sweet"

Looking down, he saw the scrap is arranged at a downward slope. Peter uses this to slide down to ground level, fumbling as he reached the end but he manages to catch himself before he falls.

D.A.R.C: "Directly ahead should be a path leading to the gate"

Peter: "Over there"

Before Peter could progress, a biker walked in front of Peter's path

Peter: "Crap..."

Peter hides behind a barrel before the biker could spot him.

Peter: "There's a guard blocking my path, is there an alternative?"

D.A.R.C: "From our position, no..."

Peter peeks around to find a way past his obstacle.

Peter: (Fighting head-on isn't an option, maybe I could distract him instead)

Peter looks around the biker in hopes of finding a way to distract him, his eyes roamed around before settling for a stack of cans.

Peter: "That could work"

Using the web-shooters around his wrists, Peter shot a web towards the stack of cans. This caused a loud rattle to emit from the cans, catching the guard's attention.

Man in Denim: "What the hell was that? That better be no rat"

The man walks out from his post to check on the noise. Peter uses this opportunity to slip past the guard and head for the exit.

D.A.R.C: "Take a left and the exit should be in sight"

Peter: "I hope you're right this time"

Moving around a corner, Peter was relieved to see the gate was in fact in his sights, only for him to drop in worry as he spots two more bikers in the middle of his path, hanging by a barrel of fire.

Peter: "Ah, great. Now there's two of them, but the end is right there"

Looking around, Peter tries to find anything in order to distract them or get them to separate, but found nothing that was in hearing distance to the two. Feeling all hope was lost, Peter immediately felt something roll to his feet.

He looks down and saw a rusty pipe near his foot, Peter picks it up and began weighing it in his hand before performing a few practice swings.

Peter: "I guess this'll do"

Looking back at the two bikers in his path, Peter decided to take on the biker on the right before dealing with the left.

Peter: "Here goes nothing"

Peter then leaves his cover with his left arm raised to the biker on the left who quickly spots him.

Man on the left: "Hey! You're-"

Before the man could call out Peter's position, he shot a web towards the man's face, blinding him before running up to the man on the right who was about to turn around in surprise.

When he finally faced Peter, he was quickly decked in the jaw by Peter's pipe. Knocking him out, before doing the same to the blinded biker, taking the two out in quick succession.

Peter: "Woah...definitely not getting used to that"

D.A.R.C: "Nice swing, 10 out of 10"

Peter: "Thanks, D.A.R.C"

Peter sets the pipe to the side before making his way to the gate. He was about to make his escape, only for him to be blasted by headlights as soon as he stepped foot near the gate.

Peter meekly looks to the headlights and saw dozens of Motorcycles all lined upside-by-side, ready to turn Peter to Roadkill.

Biker: "Get him!"

The motorcycles then reevved up their engines before speeding towards Peter.

Peter: "You've got to be kidding me!"

Tunring the other way, Peter booked it back to where he ran from to try and outrun the motorcyles.

D.A.R.C: "Use the Suspension Matrix to hop over the wall"

Reaching over his back, Peter pulls out another Suspension Matrix from his backpack as the Bikers began catching up to him.

Peter then throws the Suspension Matrix onto the ground in front of him as it emits the same blue light and carries Peter over the wall. The Bikers quickly skids to a stop as they come up to a tall wall as Peter landed roughly on the other side.

Peter: *pant* "Why didn't we do that sooner!?"

D.A.R.C: "You were fixated on finding the exit, so I complied"

Peter: "Next time I say find an exit, just find a way to get me out. Preferably unharmed"

D.A.R.C: "Noted"

Bikers: *distant* "Let's roll out of here, we can still catch up to him!"

Peter; "We better go"

D.A.R.C: "There's a bus stop close by and a bus en route"

Peter: "Cool, let's make like the wind and...whatever let's go"
