Chapter 10: The Morning After
I open my eyes as the sunlight streams in through the window, yesterday was the best day of my entire life. Looking over, I hear Tessa's faint snores while she is sleeping. I lazily trail a finger down the scar that starts on her shoulder and ends at her back. I throw on pajamas and quickly place a kiss on Tessa's forehead before going downstairs. Walking into the kitchen, I see my brothers with big grins on their faces.
"Did you have fun last night?" Jackson takes a sip of coffee.
Asher smirks. "It sure sounds like she did." He clicks his mug with Jackson's.
I sigh, it's too early for this. "What are you two on about?"
"We might have heard...everything last night."
I'm mortified, how much did they hear? What did they hear? "I'm talking about this."
"Maybe keep it down next time." Jackson quipped.
"Shut up, please."
"So, have you asked her yet?" Asher's question confused me.
"Ask her what exactly?"
"To stay here with you...well, with us."
"Well, have you?" Elizabeth says as she comes downstairs.
"To be honest, I don't know if I should."
"Why not?"
"I don't think it's a good idea. Tessa doesn't think that it's safe to stay in one place for too long."
"Did she tell you why?"
"She's worried about her and Mallory's safety."
"Can I tell you what I think?"
I shrug, "Go ahead."
"I think that I've never seen you be so happy with someone before." She's not wrong. "Who cares if it's too fast? I've seen the way you two act around each other, you're clearly in love with the girl. So, who cares if it's not safe? Maybe Tessa's just too scared to ask to stay. That's why you have to do it."
"But what if she says no and leaves anyway?"
"Do you really think she's going to turn you down? Besides, I've heard the way she talks about you...and well, I don't think she is going to say no."
She talks about me? "What does she say about me?"
"That's between friends."
"Oohh," Jackson says.
"Come on tell us what she said," Asher demands.
"Nope, you two gossip way too much. And it's none of your business."
"Uh!" Jackson says, "I'm not a gossip."
"Sure." Liz rolls her eyes, "Such drama queens you two are."
Ignoring my brothers, I decide to make breakfast for me and Tessa. After putting it on a tray, I walk back upstairs and go into my bedroom. Moving over to the bed, I gently nudge Tessa's shoulder as she wakes up.
"Good morning, Sparky." I lean down and peck her on the lips.
She gives me a smile, "Morning."
"I made you a little something," I say and place the tray on the bed.
"Oh, thank you." She reaches over and takes a bite of the toast. I could watch her forever, just sitting on my bed while wearing my T-shirt. My thoughts are interrupted when Tessa wipes my lip. "I think you have a little bit of drool...right here."
Playfully grabbing her wrist, I kiss her hand. "I want to ask you something."
"What is it?"
"I was thinking..." I want to ask her to stay with me, so badly...but I fear what her reaction will be. I know we have a connection between us, and it deepened even more last night...but what if my feelings for her are all just one-sided? I need to test the waters before diving in headfirst into a serious relationship with her. "What if we out on another date, but outside the house this time?"
"I don't know-"
"Before you say no, hear me out. It's not always crowded, and I'm pretty sure the people that you're hiding from would stay away from it. I'd be just me and you, and a small crowd. What do you think?"
"Where would be going?"
"It's a surprise, and it might just be the best night of your life."
Tessa pauses and thinks about it, "Okay, I'm in. Let's do it."
