Journal Entry #527

"But you loved her?"

"Yes."

"And she loved you?"

"Yes."

"Then why did it end?"

"Because love and compatibility are not always the same thing."

"I'm glad you're finally accepting Greasers. I knew you'd do it." Andrew shot me a small smile while taking another sip of his tea.

Lord, how he loves his tea.

I knitted my eyebrows in confusion. "Wait, how the hell did you know that? Have you been following me?" He threw his head back in a laugh while shaking his head. "Kota, just because I'm friends with Darry doesn't mean I can't be friends with Soda also."

I growled and rolled my eyes. "I hate him so much."

"Anyways, Soda wanted me to ask you if you wanted to meet Sandy today. They'll be at the DX if you want to go."

I about spit out my tea all over his hardwood floors and shot him an 'are you actually serious?' look. "You want me, the most sassiest and rudest person, to meet Sandy Adams, the biggest stuck up brat Tulsa has ever seen? Not a good combination."

He rolled his eyes. "You are not rude. You just have a lot of opinions people don't like to hear."

I shrugged. "They're not opinions, they're the truth. And the truth hurts."

He started chuckling and sighed. "Dakota, look, this is your chance to make friends with a girl that's not Cherry or Marcia. Them two are literally the only girls you talk to."

"And?" I sassed. "Two dramatic friends are enough. I don't need a brat also."

He grinned, despite his urge not to. "Well, if you do want to go, they're at the DX."

I stood up and started walking out the door. "Yeah, well if I get in a fight, it's all your fault."

"KoKo-Puffs! I was hoping you'd come!" Soda's always cheerful voice rang through my ears as I opened the door to the DX.

I shot a small smile, but it faded once I saw the blonde-headed girl sitting next to him. She was wearing a skirt that showed.... everything. Now I don't care what you wear, but this was Sandy we're talking about.

And if you don't know the things she's done, you must be living in a hole ten feet underground.

I guess Soda just decided to look past all that and that shows how much he really loves her. Sandy shot me an innocent smile and waved, like we were old time best friends. I returned, even though I didn't want to.

"Soda, where are the Oreo's you pointed out to me last time? I think I want a bag." I announced, glancing around the store.

I knew where the Oreo's were, I just wanted to talk to Soda alone.

I don't like him at all, by any means. And I'm not jealous. I just want to ask him why he's still with Sandy after all she's done. I didn't get the chance to ask him that yesterday even though he ranted about her for ten minutes straight.

He lead me towards the back of the store and I followed him silently, thinking of how to bring the subject up. "Soda, can I ask you something?"

He reached up and grabbed the Oreo's throwing the bag at me which I caught. "Yeah, what's up?" He questioned, shooting me a concerned look.

"Why do you stay with Sandy after all she's done?"

His facial expression changed as soon as I finished my sentence and I instantly regretted saying anything. "Why do you care?" He snapped, his voice laced with venom.

"I was just asking, I'm sorry." I apoligized, knowing I just hit a soft spot.

He shook his head. "Whatever. Dallas was right. You're just a snotty Soc who only cares about her reputation. You don't want to be friends with me at all because if you did, you'd understand why I'm still with her."

He walked away and left me standing there, a bag of Oreo's in my hand. I quietly put the bag back up and walked out of the DX, a lump in the back of my throat. I don't know why, but when he yelled at me, it hurt.

I continued walking out of the DX and as if things couldn't get worse, it started pouring rain. "Great." I mumbled, my hair and clothes were already drenched, so I continued walking slowly towards my house.

I heard an engine rev behind me and quickly turned around, a smile etched on my face as Randy pulled over to the side, letting me hop in. He raised his eyebrow. "What in the world are you doing out here in the pouring rain?"

I bit my lip. "I was at Andrew's house and as soon as I walked home, it started raining."

I figured I'd leave out the DX part.

He nodded and started driving towards my house, the only sound coming from the radio. The Beatles started playing and I Want To Hold Your Hand came on, one of my favorites.

Oh please say to me
You'll let me be your man
And please say to me
You'll let me hold your hand
Now, let me hold your hand
I want to hold your hand

I hummed along as my house came into view, Randy pulling up slowly beside it. He turned towards me and before I could get out, he put his hand on my wrist. "Dakota, you okay?"

Despite my urge to cry, I nodded my head while shooting him a grin. "Why wouldn't I be okay? I'm just a little tired is all."

He didn't believe me, I could tell, but he let me go anyway and didn't leave until I got safely inside the house. My parents rushed over to me, grim looks on their faces. "Honey, why have you been out more? And look at you! You look terrible!" My mom scrunched her face up in disgust, making me roll my eyes.

"I've been talking to Andrew, and thanks, Mom. It's not like I had to walk in the pouring rain." I snapped, my temper getting the best of me.

"I don't know who you think you are getting an attitude with me." She growled, crossing her arms.

I pushed past her and ran upstairs, locking the door before she could even try to get in. I've had a terrible day and I just want to disappear for a while.

As soon as I turn eighteen, I'm leaving this town for good.
