Chapter 8
When the McMahon's got home that night, Alexa went up to her room and checked her phone. To her disappointment, there was no messages or missed calls from her boyfriend, Buddy. Seth was about to leave for the night when Hunter stopped him.
"Where's Steph?" Hunter asked.
"She went back out. Said she had something to take care of." Seth told him.
Hunter gave a confusing look as he tried to think of where his wife could possibly be.
Just across town in the Valley District, Stephanie knocked on the door of and old friend's house.
"What are you doing here, Steph?" Shawn asked as he let her in.
"I told you we had to talk." Stephanie said.
"Yeah.. I didn't realize you meant tonight." Shawn said as the microwave dinged.
Stephanie watched in confusion as he pulled a bowl of macaroni out. She let out a slight smile to herself.
"You remember this?" Shawn asked.
"Microvable macaroni and wine.. How could I ever forget." Stephanie said.
"It used to be your favorite." Shawn said.
Stephanie took a deep breath.
"Hunter wants to get rid of Adam." Stephanie said.
Shawn gave her a confusing look.
"The kid that runs with Undisputed Era?" Shawn asked.
"He's nineteen." Stephanie said.
"Okay.." Shawn said, looking to Stephanie for more.
Stephanie took another deep breath as Shawn went to take a bite of his maccoroni.
"He's my son, Shawn." Stephanie finally said.
Shawn froze for a moment.
"He's uh.. He's your..your son?" Shawn tried to speak.
Stephanie didn't say anything.
"Wait. How old did you say he was, again?" Shawn asked.
"He's nineteen." Stephanie said with caution.
Adam's face turned pale when he realized what Stephanie was trying to tell him.
"He's mine isn't he?" Shawn asked.
At the Kahn's mansion, Brandi was pouring a glass of wine in the kitchen when MJF walked in.
"That was quiet a speech the son gave tonight, don't you think?" Brandi asked casually.
MJF looked at her for a moment with disdain.
"Look, I don't know what you think-." MJF began to say.
"Cody's going to find out what you did, Max. And when he does, you and I both know that he'll never forgive you." Brandi said seriously as she got in his face.
MJF tried to keep his composure as he found truth in Brandi's words. She walked away with two wine glasses in hand, clearly heading up to her room with Cody. MJF hit the bottle of wine off the counter in frustration, shattering it to pieces.
Upstairs, Cody was looking out at the lawn from the balcony when Brandi walked in.
"Who do you think did it?" Cody asked.
"Did what, sweetie?" Brandi asked as she stood beside him.
"Sefina Reigns.. her husband.. We all know it wasn't an accident." Cody told her
Brandi looked down for a moment and took a deep breath.
"I have no idea. A lot of people were against her running for Mayor." Brandi said.
Cody shook his head in disapproval.
"I never understood this whole divide in the city.. I actually looked up to Sefina. Hell I even did a presentation on her in college." Cody said.
Brandi took a sip of her wine.
"You know sometimes I wonder if she was killed because she was an outsider.. or because she was a woman." Brandi said.
Cody looked over at her curiously for a moment.
"Or maybe it was both.." Brandi added.
Cody smiled to himself for a moment.
"You know you're one of the strongest people I know, right?" Cody asked.
"What?" Brandi asked in confusion.
"That's why I love you.. Your strength.. It's inspirational." Cody said before leaning in and kissing her on the lips.
Just under the balcony, MJF was walking out to the patio when he saw Cody and Brandi together.
At Sasha's house her mother, Angie, was making soup while Bayley and Ricochet kept her company. Sasha was in her room hoping to god that Bayley and Ricochet left. When Angie put the soup on a tray, Bayley walked over and grabbed it.
"I'll take it too her." Bayley said.
Sasha was trying to get comfortable in bed when Bayley walked in with the soup.
"Oh great, you're still here." Sasha said in annoyance.
"Come on, Sash. After what happened tonight, can't you take a break on hating me?" Bayley asked.
Sasha just looked at her with tired eyes, not saying anything.
"How's your arm?" Bayley asked.
"You've never lied to me before, Bayls."Sasha said suddenly.
Bayley took a deep breath and hesitated to reply. Sasha obviously wasn't going to drop it but Bayley didn't feel that now was the right time to tell her the truth.
"We'll talk about it later, okay?"Bayley said.
"Just go." Sasha told her.
"Sash-." Bayley tried to say.
"I said go!" Sasha yelled at her.
As Bayley left the room, Sasha buried her face in her pillow and broke down in tears.
At River Haven PD, Carmella waiting outside Captain Stratus's office while she and Miz had a rather heated discussion.
"We should be arresting her, Trish. She's a criminal!" Miz yelled at her.
"Yes, and a very skilled criminal too. She is one of the best hackers in the world and RHPD could use someone like her." Trish told him.
"This is the craziest thing I have ever heard." Miz said in disbelief.
"She could be a real asset to us, Miz."Trish told him.
"If I was calling the shots, I would have already handed her over to the feds." Miz said.
"Well it's a good thing you're not calling the shots then, huh?" Trish asked.
Miz stared at her with frustration.
"You're dismissed, detective" Trish said.
Carmella stepped back as Miz stormed out of the office.
"Come in." Trish told her.
Carmella looked around awkwardly for a moment.
"Welcome to team, Van Dale." Trish said as she offered out her hand.
Carmella shook her hand cautiously.
"You know I dropped out of high school, right?" Carmella asked.
"I know." Trish said with a smile on her face.
Carmella was a little surprised.
"Well you guys don't have very high standards around here, do you?" Carmella joked.
The two women shared a laugh as they continued to shake hands.
