Chapter 2
At Hunter and Stephanie McMahon's house, everyone was meeting at the dining table. Hunter and Stephanie sat at each side of the table with their daughter Alexa and Stephanie's brother Shane sitting to the left. To the right sat Seth Rollins and Adam Cole.
"I am just saying that lately it seems like maybe the Undisputed Era isn't being valued here anymore." Adam explained.
Seth glanced down and tried to bite his tongue while Stephanie took a sip of her coffee.
"Don't be ridiculous, Adam. You are valued here just as you have always been." Hunter assured him.
Adam stared at Hunter for a moment, not sure if he could believe him.
"We haven't been asked to do a job in months." Adam added.
"What are you suggesting?" Stephanie asked.
"I think someone else has been working for you." Adam told them.
Stephanie let out a small laugh.
"We actually have a job for you tonight. We will all be attending the event tonight at Reigns Enterprize. We want you and the boys to keep your eyes open in case shit goes down." Hunter told him.
Shane furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.
"What would be going down?" Alexa asked.
Hunter and Stephanie got quiet for a moment.
"It's River Haven, sweetheart. Shit's always going down, isn't it?" Seth asked with a slight smirk on his face.
In a van parked in an alley behind an abandoned building downtown, Carmella VanDale was broadcasting the latest episode of The Defiance podcast.
"Is it just me or does it seem like all anyone in this town cares about is the cities wealthiest families? I mean I guess not all wealthy families because the death of Sefina Reigns is still being covered up by River Haven PD. But hey.. she was the only person in history to will a mayoral election without the endorsement of a McMahon or Kahn Family member, she must have been asking for it right? How stupid do the police think we are? There is obviously a deep rooted cover up going on here and I am warning you now, The Defiance will not rest until the truth comes out and-." Carmella said before Mike Mizanin burst open the van door.
"RFPD!" Mike yelled.
"What the hell is going on?" Carmella asked as Mike grabbed her by the arm and pulled her out of the van.
"Carmella Van Dale, you're under arrest." Mike said as he handcuffed her.
That morning at River Haven High, Sasha Banks was sitting on the entrance steps waiting for her best friend, Bayley. Sasha was wearing her usual denim jeans with combat boots and a black tank top. An old red and white flannel jacket was tied around her waist. Her nose was pierced and a black beanie cover her long, black curly hair. When a black Cadillac pulled into the school, Sasha looked up to find Alexa McMahon getting out. Sasha watched her with disdain for a moment while she observed her usual queen bee attire. Alexa wore a blue mini skirt and a tight white long sleeve top. Her red lips and a pair of black high heels complemented her look. Sasha couldn't help but be irritated by Alexa's beautifully long, blonde hair. When Peyton Royce and Billie Kay approached Alexa, Sasha rolled her eyes. Those three were your typical high school mean girls, and Alexa was their queen bee.
"You know you don't have to hate her just because she's a McMahon, right?" Bayley asked as she approached Sasha from behind.
Sasha turned around to find Bayley wearing just a simple pair of jeans and a black t-shirt. She smiled at her best friend and admired the way her hair looked in a pony tail.
"You're late." Sasha joked with her.
"I know, my mom wouldn't stop talking this morning. I had such a hard time getting out of the house." Bayley told her.
Sasha laughed and put her arm around Bayley as they made their way into school.
The Kahn's mansion was located just on the edge of town. Given that Tony himself was out of town very often, Cody Rhodes and his wife Brandy mostly occupied his residence. That afternoon, Brandy and Cody were joined for lunch in the garden by Dustin Rhodes, MJF, and Kenny Omega.
"If we want to win this mayoral race then we need an endorsement from Reigns." Cody told everyone.
"You mean the son?" Kenny asked.
"We all know that the city practically evenly divided but if we can get those votes of the people that followed Sefina Reigns then we're golden." Cody added.
Everyone looked at each other for a moment.
"How the fuck are we going to do that exactly? I mean Brandi isn't exactly wining over our voters anyway. She's fucking this whole thing up for us." MJF smarted off.
"I'm sitting right here." Brandi told him.
Cody looked down awkwardly, not wanting to get in the middle of a fight between his best friend and his wife.
"I think Brandi is doing just fine." Dustin said.
"Oh of course you do, you kiss ass." MJF said in annoyance.
"Max." Cody tried to interfere.
MJF looks over at Cody and took a deep breath.
"It should be you running for office. Not her." MJF told Cody as if they were the only two at the table.
Brandi shook her head and stormed off.
"Unbelievable." Brandi could be heard mumbling under her breath.
MJF took a sip of his water as Cody chased off after Brandi.
"Are you just a complete asshole to everyone except for him?" Kenny asked.
"Pretty much, yeah." MJF said.
Inside, Cody had found Brandi pacing nervously in the living room.
"Babe." Cody tried to say.
"I am getting sick and tired of him minimizing my work and my accomplishments!" Brandi yelled.
"I get that you're upset but that's just how he is, you know that." Cody tried to explain.
"I am done with him.. I am so done with him." Brandi said before storming out of the room.
Cody buried his faced in hands and took a deep breath.
At the River Haven Police Department, Mike Mizanin and Shawn Michaels we're questioning Carmella.
"I have no idea what you guys are talking about." Carmella insisted.
Miz laughed and shook his head in annoyance.
"We've been watching you for awhile now. It's pretty clear that you're involved with The Defiance." Shawn told her.
"I just do a podcast, okay? I'm not an actual Defiance member.. not from lack of trying though." Carmella said.
"You really expect us to believe you're just a fan?" Miz asked.
Carmella rolled her eyes.
"Word in the Street is that Defiance is planning some kind of attack at Reigns Enterprise tonight. You wouldn't happen to know anything about that, would you?" Shawn asked.
"Why would they attack Reigns Enterprise? That doesn't make any sense." Carmella asked in confusion.
Miz squinted his eyes at Carmella, clearly not believing a word she said.
"Apparently they are going to frame the McMahon's or the Kahn's for it in hopes of increasing their base." Shawn explained.
Carmella thought to herself for a moment. Suddenly, Captain Trish Stratus opened the door.
"Detective Michaels and Detective Mizanain, can I speak to you?" Trish asked.
Carmella watched as Shawn and Miz left the room.
"I just got word that a private party is being held tonight at a residence outside of town. It is supposed to be some kind of celebration for Defiance members." Trish told them.
"You think their leader will be there?" Shawn asked.
"Definitely." Trish said.
"Good. It looks like we've finally got em." Miz said.
Trish took a deep breath before continuing.
"The only problem is that this party is invite only, and we can't get a search warrant unless we know he is in attendance." Trish told them.
Shawn looked through the glass window to the interview room and watched Carmella for a moment.
"I think I might have an idea." Shawn told them.
At Montgomery Asylum, Aj Lee was sitting in the cafeteria eating her lunch. It had been four month since she had been admitted and she was beginning to give up hope of ever getting out. Then suddenly, a man by the name of Jimmy Havok sat down beside her.
"You're the one that tried to stab your bpyfriend in his sleep, right?" Jimmy asked.
Aj glanced over at him slowly.
"I didn't try. I stabbed him.. But that son of a bitch is still alive." Aj said in frustration.
"Right, well uh.. Were planning a break out, you want in?" Jimmy asked.
"Who is we?" Aj asked.
Jimmy nodded his head over toward Bray Wyatt who was sitting a few tables over. He smiled very creepily to Aj. The Jimmy motion over toward Mickie James who was twirling her hair as she stood against the wall.
"Stalker girl and Creepy Jones? They're crazy." Aj said.
"Aren't we all?" Jimmy asked.
Aj furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.
"I'm not crazy." Aj said rather defensively.
Jimmy got an unsettling feeling in his stomach as Aj stared a hole through him.
"Right.. You're not crazy at all.. Neither am I." Jimmy assured her.
"Didn't you staple a lit match to someone's forehead?" Aj asked.
"Well yeah but there was a perfectly valid reason for it." Jimmy told her.
"That being?" Aj asked.
Jimmy froze for a moment before continuing.
"The guy uh.. He called me Jim." Jimmy told her.
"Is that not your name?" Aj asked.
"I go by Jimmy." He said seriously.
"Right.. So you're clearly not crazy at all." Aj said.
"Right." Jimmy agreed.
Aj shook her head and went back to eating her food.
"You want in or not? It's going down tonight during this big town event." Jimmy told her.
"What event?" Aj asked curiously.
"It's at Reigns Enterprise, something about that mayor that got killed." Jimmy told her.
Aj thought to herself for a moment as her eyes filled with intrigue.
"I'm in." Aj told him with a smirk on her face.
