Chapter Sixteen

"Come on, Pip, you're too easy to take down." Evan taunted. He had me pinned down, his knees were on my shoulders.

We had been training for about the last half an hour, and I've already managed to get pinned around twelve times.

He got up, soon after reaching out a hand for me to get up. "Let's go again."

I ignored his hand, just like the previous eleven times, instead, getting up on my own.

He counted down from three, and I instantly ducked as he went to throw a punch. Let's just say, I've gotten better the more times I've lost.

From the previous 'matches', I've managed to get his strategy played out. He's almost a foot taller than me, but a lot slower, mainly relying on his physical strength rather than his agility.

He would also tire out quickly, so I could use that to my advantage.

I kept on dodging his attacks, getting a few hits to his chest here and there. From the two hits I've gotten this time, I could tell he was getting tired. Another giveaway was his heavier breathing.

I smiled a little and dodged one last attack before kicking my leg in his side. He seemed surprised, which was good, but instantly recovered from it. He grabbed my leg and twisted it, causing me to fall on my stomach with a groan.

He pinned me again. He chuckled in my ear. "You're just no match against me."

I rolled my eyes and did my best to look at him. "Just get off of me." He obeyed, and lifted me up. "Can we just work on something else?"

"Well, since you've never shot a gun, I guess we could do that."

I nodded and we went to shoot.

...

"How are you terrible at this, too?" Evan asked. We were at the shooting targets, and I wasn't doing too well.

"Hey, in case you haven't noticed, I'm a small person and this gun has wicked recoil." I scoffed and handed him back the gun. "Just let me handle a pistol on the heist and we'll be fine."

He shook his head. "This heist is dealing with a dangerous gang. You need to learn this shit."

I sighed. I walked back over to the weapons and picked up something I was more familiar with. Knives.

I held several in my hands and walked back to the targets. These ones were specific for throwing, so that's exactly what I'll do.

I took a deep breath and held my hand over my head. I quickly focused on the target and threw. I was met with a satisfying thunk as the knife stuck into the target's head. I threw the next two into the neck and chest.

Finally, I threw a fourth and last one. It landed on the groin of the target.

"And that will be you." I walked to the target to gather the knives.

Evan slowly nodded his head. "Impressive. Not as effective as a gun, but not useless." He still had a mask on, so I couldn't tell his facial expression. "You can be a little ninja."

I gave a slight smiled. I quickly replaced it with a scowl, though. "So, Evan. How come you keep that mask on around me?"

"Feel like it. And, I can't risk you seeing my face, just in case you leave."

"Wait, wait," I furrowed my brows. "I can leave?"

He chuckled behind me. "Yes." He gripped my shoulders and got close to my ear. I didn't feel his mask, instead hot breath against my ear as he whispered. "But that's suicide at that point, considering I know everything about you and can have you taken out, just like that." He snapped.

I shuddered. "That's not fair, man."

"Life's not fair." There was a slight pause, but he still gripped my shoulders. "Oh, and one of my biggest rules is 'No relationships', so that little fling with Tyler is over."

He backed away. I turned around to see him without his mask, smirking. "You couldn't have told me that? Why wait until now to enforce that rule?"

"I figured Tyler would obey, and I didn't think it would happen this quickly. So, I'm terminating it before anything else can happen."

I sighed. "Whatever, back to training."

"I'm serious, Pip. Stay away from Tyler."

"I'm serious, too."
