Scarlett's P.O.V.
I readjusted my clothing several times while helping my mother lay the table for the family dinner. I have no idea why Mom insists that I dress so revealingly for these events. I preferred to be covered so that no one could see the scars Dad had inflicted on me."Mom," I whine, "Please let me go get changed."
She rolled her eyes at me, "Lettie, you are fully covered except for your leg. You have an amazing body, show it off alittle." Yeah, and that is exactly how she got Dad.
"I dont want to." I said firmly, "Please, just let me go get changed."
"No," Mom answered firmly. "Now go put this in the middle of the table." It was a tray filled with alcohol and cigarettes. Gagging at the scent of cigarettes, I move the tray as far away from me as possible before setting it down. "Seriously Lettie, you have to stop being so dramatic about the smell."
Okay, that is enough. "Mom?" I say kind of scared of how she would react to what I was about to say, "I want to ask you something."
"If it is about the dress again, the answer is no." She called from the kitchen.
"No, it isnt about the dress." I sighed, and she moved out of the kitchen, keeping quiet, clearly curious about what I was about to ask. Taking a big breath, I blurt out, "Can I move in with Bea, please?"
The room went quiet for a few seconds as she dropped her gaze to the ground, "Lettie," I knew the answer would be no.
I dont even know why I bothered at this point, I take the kitchen towel out of her hands and say, "It's okay."
"I dont see why not." She said quickly as I turned my back to her, "Bea has been living alone successfully for the. last two years, and there is only so long I can keep you here with me."
Shocked I slowly turn to face her again, "What?" Mom smiled softly at me opening her arms wide for me to step into her embrace. Hugging her tightly I say, "Thank you," My smile falls as the realization hits, her word isn't the final word, it's dad. "W-Wait."
"What?"
"What about dad?"
"What about me?" His voice echoed in the empty room as shivers went down my spine. Nervously I cling onto Mom's hands as we both turn to face him. He already had a harsh gaze as I avoided eye contact with him.
"Um," Mom breathed out shakily, "Well, Lettie was just asking me if she could move out with Bea." My heart was racing now as I heard his footsteps come closer to me.
"Is that true?" He asked in an aggressive tone.
I kept my gaze down afraid I would lose my voice if I looked into his eyes, "Only if it is okay with you." I answered in a soft tone. Mom's grip got tighter on my hand as Dad lifted his hand causing me to flinch back waiting for the impact against my cheek, but instead, I felt him grip my chin gently raising my face so I would look into his eyes. They were pitch black, an abyss of evil and darkness, I had no idea what mom saw in them, other than that.
"We have had this discussion before Scarlett." His tone was threatening, "You are not strong enough to live. in the world alone, not like how. Bea is." What he meant by that was, that he thought the second I left his prison I would run to the police and tell them everything.
"I-I won't tell anyone anything," I pleaded, "Please, just give me a chance."
His grip tightened as soon as I said those words, "I gave you a chance," Tears blurred my vision, "And I ended up regretting it didnt I?" Old memories flashed through my mind.
"Dad," I whimpered, "I was young, now I know better." I wanted out of this prison. "P-Please, you can double the security if you want, but I am promising you. . .I won't do anything that will cause you trouble."
He scanned my face for a few seconds before letting go of me, "The answer is still no." I wanted to scream. "I know better to trust you." Dad turned his back to us, "This better not be brought up at dinner Scarlett, otherwise you know the consequences." The belt.
"Ross," Mom said in a soft tone, "She is-" I was grateful she was about to speak in my behalf but I knew it wasnt going to get anywhere.
"I said NO!" He yelled, causing us both to flinch back.
"S-Sorry." She stuttered,
Dad stormed off, as the two of us clung to one another. "Sorry baby," She whispered to me, shaking off her grip I ran up to my room and called Bea.
"Hello?" She answered,
"Bea," I breathe out, "Please do not say anything about moving out at the table."
"But-"
"Please." I cut her off, "Please, just don't." I couldnt risk Dad hearing me tell her that he would beat the absolute living shit out of me if this was discussed again. Bea sighed obviously reading into my anxiousness.
"Fine." She answered, "I won't."
Sitting down on my bed I pick at my old scars on my wrist, "Thanks." Hanging up the call, I lay down on the bed staring at the ceiling with only one thought in my mind.
I really had no way out of this life.
. . .
"So the drop was successful?" Dad asked Archer, Jaxon, Elijah Uncle Carter's eldest son, and Lincoln, his youngest son.
"Yes," Archer said smirking, "All 30 kilos of cocaine, in our grasp." I awkwardly played with my spaghetti as well as Bea. We both had no interest in all of us but were forced to sit in all these discussions.
"Hey did you hear about the drug failure for the devil's keepers?" Elijah chuckled, "Those fuckers lost 25 kilos of some new drug they had all the A-Listers raving about."
Dad chuckled, "That is why, we. have the best quality and service for our customers, while theirs lacks." What was so good about literally having addicts coming knocking on your door and asking for drugs that mess up their internal organs?
"So," Auntie Kat said also getting bored with all this business chit-chat, "Why are we ruining our mood talking about those losers?"
"Because mom," Link smirked, "Eli and I found this great new voice modifying system, and called the dealer to pull back." How did they know who to call?
My eyes widened looking over at them. Wait, was this sanctioned by Dad and Uncle Carter?
Dad stopped chewing, as well did Uncle Carter. The proud smirk that was once plastered on his face slowly disappeared, and fear took over. "What?" Uncle Carter's voice dropped to a dangerous tone.
Bea and I looked over at each other fearful about what was about to happen. One rule of thumb in this business is not never fucking interfere in another gang's drug deal. Yes, Dad has done some really fucked up things to their members but when it came to business it was almost unsaid between us and them. . .
"What the fuck did you just say?" Ace snapped angrily standing up and throwing his chair backward so it made a loud banging sound on the ground.
"Ace!" Dad stood up as well quickly standing in between the two of them as Link sat still staring down at his food.
"What the fuck were you thinking?!" Uncle Carter panicked.
Bea and I shrunk back watching the scene unfold infront of us, "D-Dad," Elijah stuttered, "Link and I were just screwing around calling every dealer we knew that was contracted with them, and miracle we found the one that was supposed to deliver 25 kilos of some weird fucking drug. We thought that it would be detrimental to the business, so we canceled it."
Uncle Carter shook in anger, "So we compete!" He yelled, "Like we have been competing, do you have any idea what happened last time either of us fucked with another deal?"
"It was a blood bath," Dad shook his head, this was the first time I had ever seen him panic. "So many people were killed, so much was taken from this world we have created."
His eyes found me, "Go," I looked at him confused, "Go with Bea, get out of here." W-Was he protecting me? "Philip!" He exclaimed calling our butler, "Philip, drop Bea and Scarlett at her apartment complex."
Mom looked at me panicked, "Ross, why are they leaving?" Philip pulled the two of us up, as we struggled against them.
Dad kept quiet, "Leave now,"
Without a word Bea and I left the house from the back of the house. "What the fuck is going on?" Bea whispered to me.
"I have no idea."
I think Link and Eli might of. . accidentally just set off a gang war.
. . .
Harden's P.O.V.
"Those fuckers!" I snapped yelling twisting the handle of my motorcycle, spiking the speed from 120 kilometers an hour to 160 kilometres an hour as Hunter struggled to keep up to me.
"Slow down Harden." Hunter said through our headset communication his girlfriend, Roxana had set up for all the gang members, "We need to think clearly."
"Fuck thinking clearly." I argued, "They took our fucken shipment." Tilting to the side I turn to the left right into the driveway of the Clyde Estate. Hunter and Vince arnt far behind me, as I take off my helmet, I see a car pulling out of the corner of my eye, and taking out my gun, I take off the saftey.
"Stop," Hunter said pushing my arm down, "Roxanna is pinging all six of them inside of the house, who knows who is in the car." He had panic in his eyes. "Please just think straight."
Pushing him off I fix my clothes, "Fine," I say breathing out heavily, "Let's fucking go." Hunter, Vince, and I storm inside their house, where Ross Clyde, Carter Solomons, and their fucktards already stood in the center of their house.
"You have a lot of guts coming here," Ross said, but it didnt not have that intimidating tone that he needed at the moment.
"And you have a lot of guts ruining a 50 million dollar deal for us." I snapped at him with no care of his status in the Gang World, "50 million dollars you and I both know that you do not have right now."
The color drained his face, "How the fuck do you know that?" Archer asked glaring at me. I was just fucking bluffing, but his strong denial at the moment fucked the situation up for them even more. Ross glared at him for speaking up. Hunter looked down at his phone smirking as Roxana sent him the share value currently of Clyde Media. . not looking so fucking good. They had estate value, but no liquid money. . . Hunter shoved the phone in his face, all the attitude drained from his face as well.
An older lady peaked around the corner, I evilly smiled at her, "That your wife?"
Ross clenched his fists, "Fuck off." Suddenly it all started to click as I casually sat down on one of the sofas laying my gun out on the coffee table as everything began to make sense. "What do you all want so we can settle this peacefully."
Peace? Fuck that. "We want our 50 million dollars," Vince said in a snarky tone.
Carter cleared his throat, "It is obvious we do not have that, but if you wait, and we give you a percentage cut-"
"Isn't that what my dad said in the not-so-distant past?" I cut him off. These fucker screwed us over so bad, now it was our turn. No so. long ago because of a fucking misunderstanding these fuckers. ramaged every single warehouse we had in the city, and took everything.
Carter sighed, "What do you want?"
We had them by the balls. "What can you give us?" I ask them smirking putting my feet up on the coffee table.
"We don't have money," Ross negotiated, "Yet anyways, and we definitely are not going to be selling any estate because we could be caught by the police for illegally harboring drugs."
"So?"
"So," Ross sighed, "I have a daughter."
"Dad!" Jaxon snapped, "What are you doing?"
I sit up interested, "Go on,"
"Just until we can pay you back, you can-"
"Ross Clyde!" The older woman said, "I swear to god, I will walk out if you hand our daughter over to them." I liked this family's daughter. "I swear." Her hands were shaking. Archer on the other hand stood casually with his arms crossed, interesting.
"We have no choice, Laura"
"Give them the fucking cocaine!" Laura screamed at him,
"Mom!' Archer snapped at her.
"Shut the fuck up," She snapped at me, "Ross!"
Ross dropped his head as if he was defeated, "Sorry," He whispered, "Until we can provide you with the 50 million that we owe you, Scarlett is yours."
"No!" Laura screamed as Jax supported her, he was the only one who genuinely looked hurt by what was going on. "Ross, please!"
"Deal," I said extending my hand out for him to shake, Ross ignored it as he stood up as well tucking his hands into his pockets.
"Hunter?" I looked back at him to see him thoroughly amused by everything that went down. Who nodded yes. . . "So when do you. suppose you will be able to pay us back?"
"6 months," He said quietly, "Scarlett is yours for six months." Which is exactly what I wanted.
"Please," Laura cried, "Please Harden, don't."
"Debt is debt." I say shrugging, "Where is she?" I look around the house.
"She left," Ross said, "Taking her into your own custody is your concern." Smart guy, he didnt want her that he sold her off to me.
"Fine." I looked over at Laura, and almost made me feel bad. "She'll be fine," I say to her, before signaling the two boys to follow me. We all hopped onto our bikes, "How will we get her?" Hunter asked me.
"The old style," I say mischievously, "Just wait and. watch."
We are going to get her. . .
Finally
