▬ PROLOGUE
▬ The neon lights flickered above the bar, casting a kaleidoscope of colors across the bustling street outside. The hum of the city was a constant backdrop—honking taxis, distant sirens, and the laughter of people spilling out of nightclubs and late-night diners. Inside, the music throbbed, bass heavy and pulsing through the walls, creating a rhythm that matched the beat of Seraphina's heart.
It had been two years since she left the quiet sanctuary of St. Mary's behind. Two years since she had walked away from the convent, from her vows, and from Father Charlie. The woman she had been back then—innocent, devout, committed to a life of faith—felt like a distant memory now, one that surfaced only in her quietest moments. She had shed that version of herself like a second skin, embracing the chaos and anonymity of the city in an attempt to forget everything she had left behind.
But no matter how many miles she put between herself and that small village, no matter how much noise she surrounded herself with, the memories always lingered. Late at night, when the club was closing down and the music faded into silence, Seraphina would find herself haunted by the life she had once known. The quiet halls of the convent, the familiar cadence of prayer, and most of all, the face of the man she had tried so hard to forget.
Father Charlie.
Even now, after all this time, his name sent a shiver down her spine. She had spent two years trying to bury the feelings she had for him, trying to move on from the forbidden connection they had shared. But some things were too deeply rooted to be erased. And no matter how far she ran, the weight of that unfinished story pulled at her, dragging her back into the past when she least expected it.
Seraphina had changed since those days in the convent. She had found a new life here in the city, working at the club, blending into the crowd. The nights were long, filled with the steady rhythm of music and strangers passing through, but it was a life she had chosen. A life that allowed her to hide from the parts of herself she couldn't face.
But tonight, something felt different. As she got ready for the performance, the familiar clang of glassware echoing in the background, a sense of restlessness settled over her. It had started as a small ripple, but now it was growing—a feeling she couldn't quite shake. The memories of St. Mary's had been more persistent lately, surfacing in her dreams, in the quiet moments when she was alone.
She tried to brush it off, telling herself that the past was behind her. She had made her choice, and there was no going back. But the unease gnawed at her, like an itch she couldn't scratch.
As the night wore on, the door to the dressing rooms swung open, letting in a rush of cold air. Seraphina looked up from her stand, expecting to see another dancer, But instead, her manager walked in, his expression serious.
He made his way over to her, his voice cutting through the din. "Mae, I need to talk to you."
She furrowed her brow, wiping her hands on the towel slung over her shoulder. "What's up?"
He hesitated, glancing around the bar before lowering his voice. "We're opening a new location. It's a transfer opportunity."
Seraphina's stomach twisted. Transfers weren't uncommon, but the way he said it, the weight in his tone, made her uneasy.
"Where?" she asked, though part of her already knew the answer.
"Close to St. Mary's," he said softly, watching her reaction carefully. "It's in the city nearby. I thought you might want to know."
Seraphina's heart skipped a beat, her breath catching in her throat. St. Mary's. The place she had left behind, the place she had sworn never to return to. The memories she had spent two years trying to forget came rushing back in an instant—Father Charlie, the convent, the life she had abandoned.
The manager kept talking, explaining the details of the transfer, but Seraphina barely heard him. Her mind was spinning, the walls of the bar closing in around her. She thought she had escaped. She thought she had moved on. But now, it seemed like the past was calling her back, pulling her toward a place she wasn't sure she could ever face again.
As the night wore on, Seraphina stood behind the bar, lost in thought. She had built a new life for herself here, far from the quiet halls of the convent and the forbidden desires that had once consumed her. But now, with the possibility of returning so close to St. Mary's looming before her, she felt as though the ground was shifting beneath her feet.
Could she go back? Could she face the village she had left behind—the village where her life had unraveled, where she had walked away from her faith and from the man who had changed everything?
She didn't have an answer. But as the neon lights flickered outside and the music pounded through the bar, Seraphina knew one thing for sure.
The past was catching up to her, and this time, there was no running away.

hey guys, my intention wasn't to change the PLOT. but unfortunately, I couldn't do much anymore with the original plot as planned. It's disorganized, unplanned and written not to my best. If I kept the original plot it would've been back and forth and no one wants to read those, especially by someone that has no official books, and an unknown name. I hope you guys stick through this new plot, The reason this is the way it is, is because it will change more than you think ;). SORRY GUYS ITS SUPPOSED TO BE MATURE NOT FLUFFY... characters development is bouta shock yall
