Chapter 5: Xylaithia
I stood at the front of Hades' temple, I summoned the shadows and did what I usually: close my eyes, outstretch my arms, and mentally tell the shadows what to do.
I got worried after about a minute, it usually only takes about nine to twenty-three seconds. Then again, the most people I'd ever transported at once was five, this was nine more people. After that minute or so, I heard a girl screaming and crying and darted my gaze towards the sound.
A girl probably one or two years younger than me with light auburn hair and a casual outfit was holding her face and sitting on her knees. Apollo, Ares (surprisingly), and Hera kneeled beside her. Hera rubbed her back and all three attempted to sooth her.
I walked towards them. "What's wrong?" I inquired gently as I knelt in front of her.
"J-Just-Justin." she sobbed taking her hands away from her face to reveal icy blue, almond-shaped eyes.
"Justin?" I was confused and tilted my head to the side.
"Her brother." Apollo answered looking back at me.
In response, I nodded and stood. "Justin." I called out looking around.
A boy looking about the same age as the girl perked his head up. "Is Taylor okay?" he wondered and looked straight at me, he walked towards me hurriedly.
"I asked what's wrong and she replied with what I assume is your name, Justin." I responded leading him towards her.
"Taylor, it's okay, I'm right here." Justin soothed as he kneeled right in front of his sister.
"Justin!" Taylor shouted and hugged him, crying into his shoulder.
Justin hugged her back and ran his hand up and down her back. A tear slipped down my cheek, I remembered a similar moment I had with my brother before he went on a quest to the Dark Roamers' dimenikay. I remembered hugging my trainer, who went on the quest with my brother, when he told me Extemius had died heroically. In this very spot, both times, my trainer had also died.
I loved seeing this though, seeing two siblings care so much for each other having such a happy moment. I could always see Extemius and I laughing and joking, being happy, being ourselves, I hoped Justin and Taylor would survive, I couldn't bear to see more families torn apart by an unsaid goodbye. I couldn't bear for others to suffer the way I did, the only way I, myself, could stop that was being happy and not making them worried or concerned about me. Although, at times like these, I was truly happy, I wasn't masking my emotions like always, I was my old self. I was strong, yes, but I find my strength in others' happiness. With Taylor and Justin, their care, their selflessness, their happiness and excitement, I could tell that I would be practically invincible. I wished for them to always be like this, always be there for each other, I wished for them to be similar to Extemius and I.
"Xylaithia?" Artemis pulled me out of my thoughts.
I felt rivers protruding from my eyes, I didn't realize I had been crying. "Yes, Artemis?" I replied wiping my eyes.
"Are you alright?" she asked furrowing her eyebrows.
"Yes, I-I'm fine." I looked down at my feet and took a deep, shaky breath.
"If you're sure." she seemed skeptical. "Would you care to show Taylor and Justin around?"
"I can do that." I nodded and smiled.
"Thank you." Artemis smiled back and stepped aside.
"No problem."
I walked towards Taylor and Justin, whom were laughing and smiling.
"Taylor, Justin." I widened my smile imagining Extemius and I when we would laugh together.
"Oh, you must be Xylaithia, a huntress of Artemis." Justin said and stuck his hand out for me to shake.
"Yeah, I am." I shook his hand.
"I suppose you know our names with the, uh, situation earlier." Taylor smiled awkwardly and looked down.
"It's fine, I suppose you were worried about your brother." I said like a mixture of a statement and question.
"Yeah." she said and looked at Justin.
"Don't worry, I understand." I smiled sympathetically. I understood. I thought.
"Anyways, what'd you need?" Justin asked tilting his head to the side.
"I was going to show you guys around." I nodded.
"Awesome." he said.
"Follow me." I turned left and started walking, waving them to follow.
