Introduction

Sarah crouched behind the undergrowth, her breath shallow and quick as she scanned the forest around her. She never imagined her fifteenth birthday would be like this—fleeing for her life from a squad of Konoha shinobi. Her self-appointed mission had gone sideways and now she had just became Konoha's public enemy number one. She now had a bounty on her head, her former comrades pursuing her relentlessly. She adjusted the pack slung over her shoulder, heavy with scrolls and supplies, her lavender hair tangled from the chase.

The shinobi were close—she could hear their footsteps pounding against the forest floor, their muffled voices communicating through hand signals and whispers. She bolted, her legs carrying her to a clearing up ahead. The moment she reached it, she slid to a stop and turned. Enough running. If they wanted to corner her, they'd regret it.

She quickly scanned her surroundings: trees with low-hanging branches, loose rocks, and uneven terrain. Perfect.

The first shinobi lunged at her with a kunai in hand, but Sarah sidestepped, letting him stumble over a concealed tripwire she'd set moments earlier. He fell forward, his back wide open. Her palm slammed into his back, activating a paralysis seal that froze him in place.
Two more leapt at her from opposite sides, forcing her into hand-to-hand combat. Sarah's taijutsu training as an ANBU operative showed in every calculated strike and deflection. She grabbed one attacker's wrist, twisting it until he dropped his weapon, then used him as a shield against the second. A swift kick to his knee dropped him to the ground, where she activated a seal that bound his movements.

Her focus sharpened. She moved with precision, using the terrain to outmaneuver the shinobi. Loose rocks became weapons hurled with deadly accuracy and low-hanging branches were obstacles her enemies tripped over while she weaved through them with practiced ease. Within minutes, the clearing was silent except for the muffled groans of the subdued shinobi.
As Sarah caught her breath, she suddenly heard a whistle from behind her.

Her body tensed, and she spun on instinct, hurling a spare kunai toward the sound. The weapon sliced through the air and narrowly missed a man in an Akatsuki cloak, his orange mask tilted slightly as if amused by her reaction. Sarah then quickly pulled out another kunai, clutching it tightly as she stared at the man.

"Who are you? What do you want?" she demanded, her voice edged with exhaustion and defiance.

The man stepped forward, his calm demeanor unsettling.

"I am Madara Uchiha," he said, his tone regal  and deliberate. "And what I want... is you."

Sarah's grip on her remaining kunai tightened.

"The Akatsuki has no business with me," she retorted, her eyes narrowing.

Madara chuckled, the sound low and unnerving. "You're mistaken. We've been watching you for some time. Kisame Hoshigaki, one of our own, spoke highly of a certain Konoha kunoichi with lavender hair who could hold her own against him. I must admit, seeing you in action confirms his claims."

Sarah swallowed hard. Kisame was no ordinary opponent and the thought that she'd attracted the attention of such a dangerous organization sent a shiver down her spine. "Why would the Akatsuki care about me?"

Madara gestured toward her with a gloved hand. "We're always looking for talent and you are... exceptional. You would be a valuable addition to our cause."

"I'm not interested," Sarah snapped, though she felt a pang of doubt.

'Sarah', a voice whispered inside her mind—Nemuri, the being that had been inside of her since childhood. 'Think about what we could gain. Resources, information... power.'

Sarah clenched her jaw. "And what if I refuse?"

"You won't," Madara said simply, his confidence unshaken. "You're too smart for that."

Sarah exhaled slowly, her fingers trembling slightly as Nemuri's logic gnawed at her resolve. Finally, with a reluctant sigh, she said, "Fine. I'll hear you out."

Madara's smirk was visible even beneath his mask. "A wise choice."

He extended a hand toward her, and though her instincts screamed at her to run, she forced herself to take a step forward. Before she could change her mind, Madara activated his Kamui. The world warped and twisted around her, and in an instant, they stood in a dimly lit cavern—the Akatsuki base.

Sarah's eyes adjusted to the gloom. In the center of the room sat a man with orange hair, his eyes rippling with the Rinnegan. Beside him stood a blue-haired woman with an air of quiet authority. The man leaned forward, studying her.

"This is the recruit you were speaking highly of?" the man—Pain, she assumed—asked.

Madara nodded. "Correct. This is Byakugou no Sarah, Konoha's second-greatest medic-nin and the ANBU operative known as Neko."

Sarah stiffened. How did he know so much about her? The way he spoke her name sent a chill through her.

Pain nodded in approval. "Welcome to the Akatsuki."

Sarah's stomach twisted as the weight of her decision settled in.

'What have I just gotten myself into?' she wondered, her mind racing as she stared at the strange, dangerous people she was now supposed to call her allies.
