Chapter 2
"Why is Tempest here again?" Piper asked. The 7, along with Tempest, we're sitting by the lake after Hazel had gathered them all there.
" Because she's the only reason we know about this. " Hazel explained, holding up the notebook.
"You still haven't told us what's in there." Percy pointed out.
"You'll know soon enough, " Tempest muttered.
"And you believe that what Tempest says is trustworthy?" Jason asked.
Hazel nodded, "She warned us about the monsters, didn't she?"
"She also just stood around as Sophie and Dex were killed." Leo countered.
" That wasn't her fa-"
"Can we please talk about this like I actually exist?" Tempest interrupted , "Like, I get you don't trust me, but you should still talk about me as if I'm here. Because I am."
The group went quiet and shared a wide variety of glances at each other. "Alright," Annabeth finally said, " What did you need to tell us? "
Tempest nodded at Hazel, who handed the notebook to Annabeth. She paled as she read it before handing it to Percy. It took a while for everyone to read it, but soon the page had made its way back to Tempest. As she held it in her lap, her eyes drifted over the words.
You may have fought till war was won
But the end's only just begun.
The hidden child walks alone
As shadows break the heart of stone.
Daughter of Love, heed this warning
The Lord of the Night will soon be calling
In dreams as cold and dark as death
Tempest forced herself to stop reading. She didn't like where the verses went. It made her nervous.
"So..." Percy started, " Where'd you find this? "
"I didn't find it." Tempest stated, "Someone told it to me. Repeatedly."
"Can I see it again? " Annabeth asked. Tempest handed the notebook back to Annabeth, "Piper, I think this section is about you."
Piper leaned over. "Daughter of Love... That does sound like an Aphrodite child thing."
"Or Venus," Frank pointed out, "It doesn't say Greek or Roman."
" I'm also hoping it's not Piper, " Jason added, pointing to the end of the second verse. Tempest tried to keep her expression stoic as her mind replayed the end of the verse again.
In dreams as cold and dark as death,
He will not stop til he steals your breath.
"Does this mean someone else is going to die?" Leo sighed, "Because that sucked last time."
Tempest shrugged, "Prophecies are confusing. You never really know what's going to happen." She pointed at Leo , "For example, everyone thought you were going to die. Instead you disappeared for a short time before coming back with a girlfriend."
"So you think this is a prophecy?" Piper asked before Leo could respond .
"No. I think that some random toddler decided to take my notebook and randomly put words together until they rhymed." Tempest rolled her eyes, "What else would it be?"
"A trick." Percy pointed out.
"You still don't trust me, huh?"
" Well, you didn't exactly make the best first impression. " Frank reminded her.
Tempest shrugged again, "Well, if you'd rather discuss this without me, I'll leave."
Nobody said anything, but Tempest could tell they didn't like having her listening to their conversation. Tearing the page out of the notebook, she handed it to Annabeth before standing and walking away. Slowly she strolled behind the buildings, making sure to stay away from any place with campers. Sure, she was a Charger and Begulier, but she wasn't stupid.
Sitting in the middle of the strawberry field, Tempest waited for Hazel to come find her. Many of the Dionysus kids were done picking strawberries for the day, and she was able to sit there alone with her thoughts. No matter how hard she tried to avoid it, her mind always went back to Sophie, Dex, and her brother. She hadn't seen him since the planting, and even then, she hadn't gone up to him. After all, they were technically only half siblings, according to her possible father, and he didn't actually know she existed. In his defence, she didn't know she had a sibling either until she learned about the Neverseen.
When she was 15 and still staying at the Shores of Solace, she had gotten a letter from Gisela. Somehow, she knew Tempest has been hiding in the Shores of Solace and asked her if she wanted to join the Neverseen. Well, it was less asking and more blackmail, as they told her they had taken her brother and would hurt him if she refused. Of course, she'd thought it was fake, but when she asked her father about it... it was the only reason she joined the Neverseen.
"Tempest?" Hazel's voice brought her out of the memory.
"Yeah?" Tempest asked.
"You ok?"
"I'm fine. Why?"
Hazel opened her mouth to say something before shutting it again and sitting down beside her. "So... You received the prophecy in a dream?"
"Actually, it was many." Tempest admitted, "I've known this for a while. Just not as a whole."
Hazel nodded. "Do you know who the "hidden child" is? "
"I have a guess," Tempest stood and wiped the dirt off her grey tunic. She helped Hazel up before grabbing the home crystal Cassius had given her. "Well," she sighed, "I'm going to be gone for a while."
"Why?"
"I just have to... Figure some stuff out. Check on my brother. See if I can get rid of any remains of the Neverseen. That kind of thing."
" Haven't you done that? " Hazel asked.
Tempest shook her head, "I'm not trusted in the Lost Cities, so doing any searching there would've been careless, much less visiting my brother. And some things came up a little while ago that I haven't gotten to yet."
"Well, I hope that you figure out whatever it is you're thinking about. " Hazel said as Tempest held up her leaping crystal to the light.
Tempest looked at her feet. "So do I," she mumbled before looking up again and stepping into the light.
