If Only We Had a Shovel or Something

"Okay, let's keep going."

Demeter and Hermes had rested a while, so the group was going to keep walking to the ruins. They walked in silence, and twice, Athena had to reach out and stop Hermes from falling down another crack. The black lightning continued, followed by a roar.

"What was that?" Hermes asked nervously.

"I don't know. It might be a monster. If it's too strong, it might be able to overtake anyone at the ruins," Athena said, frowning. A scream sounded in the distance.

"Apollo," Demeter breathed.

"Let's hurry!" Hestia said, picking up the pace.

When they finally arrived, they found Artemis with her legs stuck under some rubble near where the archery range had been.

"Artemis!" Athena called. The group rushes over and starts to try and shift the wooden support beam that had fallen on Artemis

"What happened?" Hestia asked.

"Apollo and I were out here when the palace fell. I got stuck under this stupid beam, though. But we got attacked by some monster. If we'd had our weapons, it would've been no problem. But my legs were still pinned and the monster left with Apollo. It would've taken me, too, but it couldn't get me out." Artemis explained, all in one breath. She seemed panicked.

"What sort of monster was it?" Hestia asked.

"I couldn't tell from here, but it was big." Artemis replied.

They finally manage to shift the beam off her legs and she stands, wincing.

"Who else is buried in the ruins?" Athena questioned.

"I know Poseidon is in there, and so is Hephaestus, Aphrodite, Dionysus and Persephone. I think Persephone was about to leave but heard someone screaming so she went back in," Artemis said.

"We have to get her out!" Demeter wailed.

"Let's see if we can dig someone out," Athena said. "If Persephone went back in and then it collapsed, she would be near the entrance. So let's begin digging over there," She added.

Hestia nodded. They made their way over to where the entrance to the palace had been. They began moving rubble when Artemis stopped, tilting her head to the side.

"Shhh! D'you hear that?" Artemis asked. Hestia strained to hear. Suddenly, she heard it. Someone was pounding on the rubble, calling for help.

"Persephone!" Demeter cried. She began to dig more desperately, her hands raw and stained gold with ichor. Hestia moved beside her sister and helped her dig.

After quite a bit of digging, the unearthed a hallway.  The entrance hall, based on location and the wrecked mosaic pattern in the floor. Hestia and Demeter crawled in.

"Persephone!" Demeter exclaimed, hugging her daughter tightly.

"The entrance hall didn't collapse?" Athena mumbled to herself, crawling in after them. "I guess it was more structurally sound than I thought."

"Lucky for us," Hermes pointed out, scrambling through the hole after her. "Hey, kiddo, glad you're alright," he added, noticing Persephone.

"Persephone, is anyone else still in here?" Athena asked urgently.

"The room where you were when it collapsed didn't cave in either, I can tell it's hollow. I tried digging through and made a little hole, but not big enough to crawl through. Poseidon is buried somewhere underneath." Persephone said, still squished in her mother's arms.

"Show me."
