Chapter Three: When The Darkness Comes

Bella and Edward watched their daughter sleep peacefully. Bella lifted her head and peered out of the window. The morning sun was peeking through the mountains, staring directly at Bella. Edward turned his head to see what Bella was looking at. Renesmee stirred in her sleep and Bella slowly crawled out of the little girl's bed. Edward raised his eyebrows, but didn't say anything.

"I'm going to go prepare breakfast for her," Bella said quietly, trying not to wake Renesmee. Edward nodded and Bella walked out of her daughter's room, closing the door behind her. She was about to walk down to the kitchen, but she made a split second decision, and walked towards Carlisle's study.

She scanned the room, making sure nobody was in there. Bella rushed up to the bookshelf in vampire speed, and glanced at all the books. Her fingers trailed the books, each one with a different texture. she was looking for one book in particular. She didn't know if Carlisle had it or not, but she was hoping he did. Her fingers stopped at a brown book. This was the one.

Bella gently pulled the book out from the bookshelf and placed it on a table. Mythical Beings By George Marvin. Bella sat down in the chair and flipped through the rough pages, scanning each page. She heard a chuckle, and she whipped her head around to see Edward, leaning on the door frame. She turned her head back to the book and Edward walked up to her, placing his firm hands on her shoulders.

"What are you doing?" Edward inquired, placing a kiss on her collarbone.

"Research," Bella answered, her eyes glued on the book. Bella was about to give up when she opened to a certain page that caught her attention.

"Witches," Edward read out. "Why are you researching about witches?"

She ignored Edward's question and read. "Witches are a supernatural beings who can produce all different sorts of magic. They are a rare creature, for most of them were burned on the cross for practice of witchcraft." Bella flipped the page, only to find that the next page was ripped out.

"Witches aren't real," Edward solemnly stated.

"Apparently vampires and werewolves aren't real either."

"Are you saying-"

"That there's a chance the Volturi could have witches protecting them from Alice's power? Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying," Bella finished. Edward creased his eyebrows.

"We must tell Carlisle," Edward concluded. In an instant, Carlisle appeared in his study, looking at Bella and Edward with confusion on his face.

"Is everything alright?" He asked.

"Bella found something," Edward said as Carlisle walked up to them and the book. He quickly looked at the book, and flipped to the page that was ripped out. His fingers touched the jagged edges of the paper and frowned. "Is this true Carlisle?"

"I don't know son. All I know is that there is a chance werewolves and vampires aren't the only supernatural creatures." He lifted up the book with a gentle hand and walked to his desk, and started staring at the papers, rereading everything.

Bella stood up and looked up at Edward. "Let's go get Renesmee's breakfast ready. She will be up in less than a half an hour," Edward stated, placing his hand on the small of Bella's back, leading her out of Carlisle's study.

The two walked downstairs and Bella slid onto a stool while Edward pulled out a frying pan, placing it on the stove. He turned the stove on and turned to Bella.

"Can I ask you something?" Edward questioned.

"Anything," Bella replied with a smile.

"I remember from Alice's thoughts that she asked you how you were changed and you said you didn't remember. Do you actually know how you were changed?"

Bella nodded. "I was driving home and my truck slipped on some ice.." A lump formed in Bella's throat but she continued. "My truck flipped into a ditch, and I was stuck in it. A man pulled me out and then he bit into my neck. The next thing I remember is waking up in a house in the middle of the woods."

"Do you know who changed you?" Edward asked as he stirred the pancake batter.

Bella hesitated, then shook her head. "Now, I assume it was Aro or another Volturi member. Maybe Demetri or even Felix.."

Edward nodded and poured the pancake batter into the frying pan. Bella listened to the sizzle of the batter when she heard a familiar noise; A heart beat speeding up. Renesmee was about to wake up. Bella disappeared from the kitchen and appeared in Renesmee's bed, watching her daughter open her eyes.

"Good morning Beautiful," Bella said with a grin. She moved a piece of hair off of Renesmee's forehead as Renesmee looked up at her mother.

"Good morning, Momma," Renesmee said with a small smile. She raised her arms, stretching her muscles. "Where's Dad?"

"He's making breakfast for you downstairs." Renesmee nodded and pushed her comforter off of her body, and then she stretched her legs.

"How did you sleep?" Bella inquired. She was curious if Renesmee had had another nightmare.

Renesmee placed her hand on Bella's neck, showing what she had dreamt after the nightmare. Flowers, Bella and Edward filled up Bella's mind. The bed shifted it's weight, making Bella and Renesmee glance the other side of the bed.

Edward sat on the bed, with a smile on his face. "Good morning," He said, placing a kiss on her forehead.

"Morning Daddy!" Renesmee chirped.

"Breakfast is ready," He said. And then he was gone. Bella assumed he had gone back downstairs to dish out the pancakes. Renesmee crawled out of bed and she jogged down the stairs, Bella not far behind her. They walked into the kitchen and Renesmee sat herself down, poured syrup on her pancakes, and began eating. Bella crinkled her nose at the smell of the pancakes, but soon got used to it.

A foul stench entered the room and Bella had to keep herself from gagging. "Good morning to you too," a husky voice said with a laugh. Edward pushed some pancakes onto another plate and handed them to Jacob.

"Morning Ness!" Jacob said with a grin. Bella hated how he called her that. It made her grind her teeth together, every time he called her that.

"Morning Jake!" Renesmee said with her mouth full of pancakes.

Bella chuckled, and Edward wrapped his arms around her from behind.

"What would you like to do today?" Bella asked Renesmee.

"Can we go hunting? I haven't been in awhile."

"Of course. When you're done eating, go get changed and we will leave." Edward said with a smile.

"We should go get changed as well," Bella said to Edward. He nodded and they followed Renesmee upstairs, but went seperate ways. Edward walked to his room and Bella walked to Rosalie's closet. Rosalie had graciously given up some her closet space, so that Bella could fit some of her clothes in there.

Bella stripped and threw her dirty clothes into a hamper. She finally decided on jeans, boots, a black t-shirt, and an army green button up cardigan. She messily pulled her hair isto a simple braid, that trailed down her neck, with pieces of hair framing her face.

She walked out of the closet and into Edward's room. Edward had his back facing to her, holding the shirt he was about to wear, slung over his shoulder. Rays of the sun glistened through the window, and they landed on Edward. His skin shined like a million diamonds, encaved in his body. She leaned against the door frame and sucked on her bottom lip, trying to refrain herself from touching every part of his body that he would let her touch.

Instead, she walked up to him, and he turned around, pressing a hand on Bella's cheek. "Do you spy on me often?" Edward said jokingly, flashing his crooked smile. Bella's insides melted under his gaze as he lifted her head up, and kissed her gently on the lips. Bella pulled Edward closer to her, running her hand up his marble chest.

"Mom? Dad?" Renesmee called from downstairs. Bella pulled away from Edward's lips. "We should continue this later," Bella said with a giggle. Edward pressed his lips against her forehead.

"Deal." He slid his arms into his shirt sleeves and buttoned up his navy blue shirt. They both walked down the stairs, hand in hand. They walked up to Renesmee, who was standing beside Jacob. Bella asssumed he was coming as well. She was still uneasy about going out into the woods, especially since the Volturi were planning to attack soon. Edward could feel her uneasiness so he looked at Emmett.

"Emmett, would you mind coming with us?" Edward asked. Emmett paused his video game, making Jasper groan and walked up to Bella and Edward, a goofy grin implanted on his face.

"Sure. Anything for my little brother," Emmett said as Edward rolled his eyes. Bella squeezed Edward's hand as they walked behind Renesmee and Jacob into the forest. Emmett trailed not far behind them, keeping his eyes out for anything suspicious.

Jacob ran behind a bush, and a russet brown wolf came back from the bush. It licked Renemsee's face, which made Renesmee giggle and Edward growl.

Renesmee sniffed and then froze. Bella watched her daughter get into the hunt, with a smile on her face. Renesmee raced away, with Jacob on her trail. Bella laughed. Emmett chased after the two screaming "I bet I can kill a bigger deer than you!"

"He's so immature," Edward noted with a chuckle.

"He's entertaining," Bella agreed. Bella giggled, for Edward had leaned into the crook of her neck, placing tiny kisses from her neck to collar bone.

She closed her eyes, enjoying the moment. Edward abruptly stopped, making her flutter her eyes open. She looked at Edward who was staring off into space. "Do you smell that?" Edward questioned. Bella inhaled and smelled something she hadn't smelled for a long time. Fresh human blood.

Before she knew it, She was following the trail of the scent. She could tell Edward was nevous as he ran behind her, for she had noly turned back to animals a few months ago. But Bella wasn't chasing the smell for thirst. She was curious as to why there was human blood. She didn't live that life style anymore, and she was the only vampire that she knew of, that was currenlty residing in Forks, that had lived like this. Unless, they had some new visitors, or maybe it was just a nomad passing through.

Bella stopped in her tracks and stared at was in front of her in horror.

A pile of bodies with blood leaking out of them stood in front of her. Blood splattered the trees and heads stood by the pile.

"Edward..?" Bella asked, her voice trembling. Edward tightly grapsed her hand and placed a kiss on it. She was scared that she might freak out and feed. It had been hard for her to transition for humans to an animal to humans and animals once again. It wasn't easy, but Bella was determined to remain where she was standing.

Flames flickered in her throat, burning every inch of it. Bella bit her lip and looked beside her to seee that Edward was gone. He was standing in front of a tree, his eyes wide. Bella walked up to him to see what he was staring at.

A huge V that seemed to be dripping with fresh blood, covered the tree. Bella held up her hand to her mouth in shock. V is for Volturi. "They're here," Bella whispered.

Emmett ran towards Bella and Edward and angry look on his face. His clothes were torn and he had a small crack on his jaw. His expression then turned to guilt and sorrow. "That's not the worst of your problems," he said, staring Edward and Bella in the eye. "They have Renesmee."

I will probably update again this weekend.

What do you think the Volturi are going to do to Renesmee? Do you think witches are the culprit are some other supernatural creature?

I would love to hear your thoughts!
