Chapter Four: Soldier of Death

Anger boiled inside of Bella. She clenched her fists, making the veins in her hand pop out. She growled at Emmett and was just about to attack him when a firm pair of hands picked Bella up and lifted her away from Emmett.

"I understand you're angry Bella," Edward whispered. "But we don't necessarily have time for that right now. They have our daughter, and our main focus right now is to retrieve her out of harms way. Okay?"

Angry was one way to put the way Bella was feeling. Furious would also work. Scared. Bella nodded her head and turned away from Edward. Without even thinking, her fist slammed into the nearest tree. Her fist went right through it, causing the tree to wobble and shake and eventually fall over. Edward sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

"Damn it, Bella!" Edward grumbled.

"I'm sorry," Bella said, looking down at her feet, feeling ashamed. Edward shook his head and pressed his lips on the corner of her eye.

"We'll find her, love. The Volturi wouldn't have taken her back to Italy. They will still be in Forks."

"Can you hear them?" Bella wondered. "Can you hear their thoughts?"

Edward shook his head. "They're either too far away or they have a shield wrapped around them."

"What happened to Jacob?" Bella asked Emmett, pulling her braid off of her shoulder and placing it on her back.

Emmett sighed. "I was watching them hunt and they came out of nowhere. Jacob and I fought them, and killed a few, but there was too many of them. They held me as one of the Volturi members crushed Jacob's ribs. I believe he's where I left him. I was going to bring him to Carlisle, but I had to tell you first." Emmett said. "I should probably go get him." In an instant, he was gone.

Bella looked up at Edward, trying to read his emotions. "Now what?" Bella managed to say.

"Now we prepare for battle."

Bella and Edward ran as fast as they could back to the Cullen home. Bella dashed through the door and looked at everyone's alarmed face. "They're here," Bella said. Alice and jasper stood up.

"Well, what are we waiting for?" Rosalie asked, placing he book down.

"Can you see anything Alice?" Edward asked. Alice shook her head. Emmett barged through the doors with a naked Jacob, who was crying out in pain.

"Carlisle, we have a bit of a problem," Emmett said.

"I'll deal with Jacob first. Then I will meet you in the battlefield. Good luck," He said as he placed a kiss on Esme's forehead. He scooped Jacob into his arms and ran to the doctor room, where he had all of his medical tools.

"Let's go! I'm ready to kick some vampire ass!" Emmett hollered.

The Cullens ran out of the house and into the forest, where Emmett had gotten attacked. Heads of Volturi members laid on the ground, along with the bodies. Bella looked down at one head and chuckled. Jane had gotten the pain she deserved. Her eyes had fear clouding them, and her mouth formed an O.

"Who killed her?" Bella inquired.

"Jacob did, actually." Emmett replied.

"I'm starting to like the dog a bit more," Bella said under her breath, making Edward laugh. Bella sniffed the air, trying to see if she could find a trail of the Volturi's scent. A musky smell filled up her nostrils, that mixed up with blood and what she imagined death would smell like.

"Bingo," She said. "I found their scent."

Bella ran first down the trail of the Volturi scent, while the others ran behind her.

"Do you smell that?" Rosalie mumbled.

"It smells like fresh blood," Jasper stated.

"Renesmee," Bella said breathless. Bella was the first to run into the clearing, where they had battled just a few months ago. The others ran behind her and stopped in their tracks, observing their surroundings.

Men in black cloaks stood about 50 feet away from them, smirks on their ugly faces. Bella grimaced at the sight, then her eye caught the most familiar glance. Aro stared at her with a devilish grin on his face. Caius stood beside him, mumbling to the other members. Two members came forward, holding a small person in their grip. Renesmee.

Her lip was busted, and she had a small trail of blood leaking down her chin. Bella could also tell she was bleeding in some other places that were covered by her clothing. Other than that, Renesmee was alive and breathing.

Instinctively, Bella slammed her eyelids closed and summoned the familiar white mist. Her eyes flew open and the cloudy fog pushed past her and made its way to Renesmee. It was just about to wrap around the little girl, when the shield stopped stretching. It felt as if Bella had mentally hit a wall, and she couldn't get past it. The shield snappedback like a rubber band, taking the breath out of Bella's lungs. She placed a hand on her chest. What had just happened?

Aro laughed his familiar menacing laugh. "You have no power here, Cullens," Aro said, with a smirk on his face. A glimmer of light flashed in Bella's eyes. Bella looked as to where it was coming from. Aro held something small behind his back. Bella couldn't exactly see it very well.

Bella turned her head to see that Carlisle had appeared. "Hello old friend," Aro said.

Carlisle chuckled, but it was more of an angry chuckle than a happy chuckle. "Friends, Aro? We will never be friends."

Aro ignored that comment. "I suppose you're wondering why we are here, Cullens." Anger trembled through Bella, and Edward grabbed Bella's wrist, making sure she didn't rip out Aro's throat right then and there. Bella got out of Edward's grip, but she didn't attack. She looked at Aro, dead in the eye.

"Kill me. Don't you dare hurt her Aro!" Bella shouted. Aro laughed at Bella's out burst.

"Oh, Isabella. We have planned way worse things than death." Edward pulled Bella back, and held both of her hands back with a tight grip. Bella reminded herself to thank him later if they survived this.

Jasper stepped forward, analyzing Aro's face. "I may not be able to read your emotions, with this wall," Jasper said, "But I always know when someone is hiding something. What aren't you telling us, Aro?"

Aro's face went from happy, to scared. He threw his hands up in the air, and laughed, a horrific laugh. "You got me, Jasper!" He lowered his hands and shook his head. "Perhaps I will tell you. Bring them forward Felix and Alec."

Felix and Alec walked forward, dragging a chain behind them. Bella peeked behind them and gasped. Two women had their hands chained together, and they walked behind Felix and Alec.

"I would like you to meet my new friends, Morgana and Xena," Aro snarled.

"Impossible," Edward said. "It seems, we are not alone in this world like we thought we were."

Bella looked at the two women. They had strange markings on their face, chest and arms. They had a darker skin color and their eyes shined a strange green. They were witches.

"Witches are extinct," Bella said. She had concluded this when she was reading. There was no possible way that another supernatural creature could exist. It was already bizarre that vampires and werewolves and hybrids existed. Aro shook his finger.

"Four witches remained after the great witch hunt in 1937. They stayed hidden for many years, until the eldest witches died. There were only two witches left. Fortunately, we had found them before they had gotten killed."

"So that's why I couldn't see you," Alice said. "Your little witch whores were blocking me out."

"Correct," Aro said, gritting his teeth. Bella looked at Caius, and realized one member of the Volturi was missing. Marcus. Aro watched her scan the group of fifty vampires. He chuckled. "He's dead, my dear. I killed him."

Bella looked at her daughter, her stomach twisting into a knot. She was staring at Bella and Edward, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"Our witches, are capable of amazing things. Show them, Morgana and Xena."

The first woman, who Bella assumed was Morgana raised her hand, even though it was chained. She looked Bella straight in the eyes and smirked. With a flick of her wrist, Bella flew across the battlefield. Her head hit a rock, and she slammed down into the moist grass, a small crack forming on her head.

"BELLA!" Edward shouted, running towards her. Xena raised her hand and raised it. Edward got lifted up off from the ground. His legs dangled a few feet from the ground and he repeatedly attacked his neck with his hands. It felt as if he was running out of oxygen, even though it wasn't necessary for him to breath. He wheezed in the sky, and soon Xena dropped him to the ground.

Bella quickly regained herself and ran to Edward, who was still on the ground. She pulled his head onto her lap, and stroked the side of his face. "You're okay," She whispered quietly. He slowly sat up and inhaled a breath of air. Bella helped him up, and he held her hand, as tight as he could.

"Aren't Morgana and Xena wonderful?" Aro said, clapping his together excitedly, like a little girl. Bella rolled her eyes and growled. "You see Cullens, you won't win this war. You will all end up where you belong and that is under gravestones."

"I rather be rotting in the depths of hell then live another day in fear!" Bella snapped, shocking everyone.

"You know this isn't a fair battle, Aro," Carlisle stated through his teeth.

"Since when have I ever played fair, Carlisle?" He looked back at his soldiers. "Cease them."

Members of the Volturi - except Alec and Felix, who were still holding Renesmee- ran towards the Cullens. Then a battle broke out.

Screams of mercy and shouts of agony filled up Bella's ears, as she tackled a man to the ground. She punched his face, but he counter attacked, and flipped her over. Bella struggled under the man's grip as his leather gloves closed her throat. Bella could hear a small crack. She looked up to see that Rosalie had pulled off his head and saved Bella from death.

Bella mouthed Rosalie a thank you, and kept fighting. She punched and dodged and kicked as many vampires she could. She could see Aro smirking in the distance, holding a small bottle in his hand.

Bella turned around, to be faced with two members. She didn't recognize them. She lifted her leg in the air, but the blonde man caught it. He threw Bella off of him and Bella slid through the grass. Bella stood up and charged towards her, but the seconds man flipped her over his shoulder. She went to punch him, but the man grabbed her wrist and twisted it behind her back, while the other man grabbed her other arm.

There was two many of them. The two men led Bella up to Aro, where Rosalie, Jasper and Emmett stood, being held back. A few minutes later, Edward, Esme, Carlisle and Alice appeared with two men holding their arms behind their backs.

Aro shook his head and laughed. "What a shame. You thought you could defeat me? I expected much more of a fight from all of you, especially you Isabella."

Bella rubbed her teeth together and growled. "Now, it is time for the grand finale," Aro said, looking at all of the Cullens. Felix and Alec walked up holding Renesmee, a smirk planted on both of their faces.

"Please don't hurt her!" Bella begged, screaming at the top of her lungs.

"I intend to do much more than hurt her." Felix and Alec released their grip of Renesmee and Aro grabbed her by the hand."Sweet, Sweet Renemsee. What a pity that you all have to watch this little girl die," Aro said. Renesmee cried out and tried to escape his grip and run to Bella and Edward, but it was no use.

Aro grabbed her jaw and lifted her head up. Bella had to do something. She had to save Renesmee. Aro twisted the top off of the mysterious bottle, and forced Renemsee's mouth open. A small drop of the bloody red liquid landed in her mouth, and she screamed, shaking and trying to get away. Aro grabbed a firmer grip on her jaw, and pryed open her mouth, getting ready to pour the whole bottle in.

Before Bella could even realize what she was doing, she lifted her leg and kicked the blonde man in his private. She turned around and punched the second man under the jaw, and tugged on his right arm, eventually pulling it off. She ran towards Aro and pushed Renesmee out of the way, just as the strange liquid poured down Bella's mouth.

Bella couldn't see very well or stand very well, and before she knew it, she had fallen on to the ground. The darkness had consumed her. All she could hear was Edward's screams.

Aro looked up at the Cullens, and for the first time in a long time, Edward saw fear in Aro's eyes

"This wasn't supposed to happen," He whispered, staring at Bella. "It was supposed to be the girl!"

Edward elbowed the man who was holding him and kicked the other man and ran up to Bella. "You will pay for this, Aro!" He screamed, as he pulled Bella into his arms.

Aro chuckled, but he was still scared. "Not Today." He nodded at his solidiers and before anyone could attack, the Volturi were gone.

Rosalie looked at Edward and lifted Bella up, who was still unconscious, while Edward ran towards Renesmee, lifting the little girl in his arms. He held her close and listened to her inhale and exhale.

"Do you hear that?" Alice asked Edward.

Edward listened carefully. It was a heart beat. But it wasn't Renesmee's.
