Torn Between Two Scenario's

With the latest chapter of Rise Of The Wolves Legend Of The Dark Kitsune and chapters that have come before it, I have faced many challenges as a writer.

One of the most frequent challenges though, is being torn between two different directions in which a certain scene could go.

One of the main times I encountered this was Chapter 22 Deal Breaker.

In this chapter Marcus is faced with a difficult decision. To either kill Rafael like they had planned, or spare his life.

Because of his conscience, he makes a choice that enrages Eric.

While writing this, I was torn between having him kill Rafael, or not. The reason for this is because I knew that I always wanted Marcus to have a dark side that would eventually be shown.

So I was kind of stuck on this scene for a while as I thought well if he kills Rafael now, that's the story's new character gone already, not to mention that it would have made little sense as to why he would ignore his conscience other than the threat that Rafael posed at that point.

But I also thought well if he doesn't kill Rafael, then readers may view him as weak and that was not my intention. I want people to be able to relate to him, and they wouldn't have done so if he had made the kill.

Despite that factor, I was torn still since not having him kill Rafael would extend the story, and also would lead on to his half-brother suffering a little, causing a rift between the two.

It wasn't until after a long chat with an amazing friend of mine that I can't shout out since she doesn't have Wattpad, that I came to the conclusion that it would be more in Marcus's character for him not to make the kill.
