Chapter 9- Raven

Mid-July

After some time has gone, Brie comes into my old room to find me sleeping and wakes me up. I turn to face the ceiling and avoid speaking. She doesn't make any movements; all she does is watch me from where she is.

As I stare at the ceiling, Logan's scent consumes my room and that only means one thing.

"What Brie?" I hastily ask her.

"There's something you need to know,"

I get up, pull myself out of bed, and run my hands through my hair while rubbing my face. I look at her in an attempt to read her expression and find the answer.

"Clay's gone," Logan's voice breaks the silence in the room.

"What do you mean he is gone?" I roll my eyes and sigh.

Logan settles down at the foot of my bed. His face is contorted into an anxious expression. I start to get a terrible feeling.

"Logan!" I shout.

"I got a call from Vince this morning. He said Clay grabbed the keys for the London house. He thought you and Clay left together."

"Okay," I get up and pace back and forth.

"So he didn't want to fly with me to New York, but he's cool with taking a flight that takes you halfway around the world?" My feelings are taking control, and I can feel the rage growing within me.

Breath Raven!

"That's not the problem, Ray," Brie states,

I look over at them both and Brie looks away.

"Logan, what is she talking about?"

Fear covers his eyes. He looks at me afraid to speak.

"TALK!" I am so angry that I shout at him, and the light in my room begins to flicker as my feelings reach a crisis point.

"When Clay goes back home, it's usually to start trouble."

"I'm lost on this. A few months ago, when we went together, he was nothing but thrilled."

"That's not what I mean," He clarifies. "When he gets extremely angry, he doesn't think," Logan says while rubbing his face. He travels back to London with the intention of wreaking havoc and causing mayhem there. Raving uncontrollably with the boys back home. He lowers his head and says, "He reverts to being violent. He's going back to being the fierce predator he used to be."

It seems as though I am suffocating and unable to take a breath. It doesn't matter what happens, he always finds a way to get back to being the bad guy. I make a conscious effort to avoid eye contact with them before leaving the room to use the bathroom.

I take a quick look at myself in the mirror while maintaining my grip on the counter. My eyes start to glow, and a voice starts to yell for my attention within my head.

Raven, do you remember what he said when you first started dating? I do, he told you he could be an asshole but that he would never hurt you.

I take a deep breath as the voice continues,

Looks like it's happening again. Another break-up between you two. You'll go to London, make-up with him and try to put this all in the past. Girl, wake up. He will never learn to be a real man until it's too late and he realises you are gone.

As I feel the fire within me get stronger, the tears begin to well up in my eyes.

No more tears, She echoes, Fight back!

"I guess I'm heading to London," I quietly say.

When I get out of the bathroom, I find Logan and Brie still in the same spot. I head over to the closet and take my bag down from the shelf. I have no doubt in my mind that there will be a significant amount of blood spilt, so I make sure to pack a lot of black clothes and everything else I might require for the next few days. As I make my way back out, I turn to face them and advise that they gather their belongings so that we may go and get Clay.

"Raven, stop. It is not worth the trouble. You have no idea what you will be getting yourself into when you get there." Logan tries to get me to think otherwise.

"Because of that, you're going to be there." When I look at him, I can't help but smile. " Additionally, there isn't much else that he can do to hurt me at this point. Keep in mind that I have more than enough ability to prevent him from hurting other people."

Logan's phone goes off and he takes it, Clay seems to be on the other line as Brie yells at me for wanting to go find him.

"You can tell me what I can and cannot do!" I shout at her.

Logan calls out for Clay but it seems as if he hung up on him. Of course he did. Brie goes up to Logan after knowing she will not win this argument with me and tells him that they need to go pack, adding that they will come back to get me once they are through.

Seems as if time passes slowly as I wait for Logan and Brie. My phone goes off and I pull it out of my pocket.

We are downstairs. - The text reads.

I immediately gather my belongings and dash out the door. We're headed to the airport, so I throw my stuff in the trunk, get in the backseat, and press my head against the glass. I can't help but make a few attempts to phone Clay while we wait to board the plane - Straight to voicemail; I try once more, but there is no response. My concern is that he may revert to his previous behaviour when Sloane was still around. It is too much for me to bear to witness him behave in that manner once more. According to what he has shared with me, he is filled with regret about everything. He began all over again, this time with me, and I was unable to stop for even a second to ponder how he was feeling about the situation.

As we climb further and higher into the clouds, I enjoy the view from my window seat on the airplane as I watch the ground below us fade away. I put my headphones on and let the music completely engulf my consciousness while I go off into a deep sleep.

After we have touched down, I can hear Brie attempting to gently wake me up. After warming up my muscles with some stretching, I gather my things and then exit the aircraft. We hail a cab thanks to Logan, and we make our way to the house where Clay spent his childhood.

We walk up the steps and Logan knocks on the door. Ms. Reina opens it and a bright smile crosses her face.

"Mr. Logan, Miss. Raven, It's good to see you,"

"Ms. Reina," I give her a hug.

Logan grabs Brie's hand and introduces her.

"Ms. Reina, this is my beautiful girlfriend Brie, also Raven's best friend."

"It is so nice to meet you," She greets Brie with a hug.

I look around the house and try to listen for Clay, his scent lingers but only so softly as if he hasn't been back here in a few days.

"Ms. Reina, has Clay been home since he landed?" I ask, afraid of what she might say.

She puts her head down and slowly walks toward me, "I think you and I should sit down,"

I do as she says and accompany her into the kitchen, where I take a seat as Logan leads Brie to the backyard. To begin, Ms. Reina tells me that she and Clay had a lengthy conversation in which he expressed his regret for what had happened. However, she is also concerned that he has reverted to his previous behaviour patterns. Because he was under the impression that he had lost me, he engaged in risky behaviour.

"He isn't entirely to blame; I shouldn't have turned my back on him when he pleaded with me to talk about what happened. However, I couldn't control my pride, and I had to leave". My eyes well up with tears, and Ms. Reina quickly dabs them away with her comforting touch.

"Raven, you haven't lost him. I know Clay, even if you find him in a place of defeat, how you react will make him think twice."

I give her a hug and thank her for the talk. I walk out to the backyard and call out for Brie. She turns the corner with Logan and I say,

"Where would Clay go?"

Logan looks at me and says he may be at the pub, but Clay has already been here for a few days so he says that maybe he is at Mark's. Veronica. Her name echoes in my mind and I can't help but feel jealousy take over.

"We need to find him now."

They all give each other a nod, and we proceed to walk back through the house to the front door. Ms. Reina pulls Logan over and provides him with the car keys that belong to Mr. Cladwell. The bar should be our first stop. As everyone is drinking and having a wonderful time, I make my way around the room in an attempt to survey the crowd. After realising that Clay is nowhere to be seen, Logan focuses his attention to a table in the corner where several of his old pals are sitting and walks over to join them. After they have talked for about a minute, I notice that Logan is rubbing his face, and that action alone leads me to believe that what he was just told is not good.
