Thin Ice

Jack isn't sure what happened, he thinks maybe he lost control while he was showing off to Bunny. one minute he was skating across the ice of the same lake he drown in and the next minute, was drowning again. in the same spot of the same lake, as 305 years earlier.

Bunny wasted no time. a terrified scream of Jacks name ripping from his throat as he took off for the shattered ice. he dived right in, watching Jack struggle with the fallen tree that was dragging him down. in a moment of stupidity, he screamed for the Frost guardian while under the water. he swam as fast as he could.

Bunny tried to be careful trying to pull Jack free. the young frost guardian was absolutely terrified, struggling. he reached for the Pooka desperately. the panic was setting in. he was drowning again.

the Easter Bunny yanked Jack free, feeling parts of the water turn warm and watching it turn slightly red.

he wraps an arm around Jack tightly and drags the man towards the surface, ignoring the ever present chill stinging through his bones.

Bunny drags them out of the water and onto the ice, hissing immediately. the soft pads of his feet immediately stick to the ice, icy water clinging to his fur. both figures tremble as the older carries the smaller guardian towards the land.

Jack screams the moment he can, in utter terror, clinging to Bunnys fur.

"hang on mate, hang on." Bunny murmurs, gently patting the youngers back. trembling pale and twig thin arms wraps tightly around his neck. he can smell the blood seeping from Jacks back and he can feel the smallers stomach bleeding against his own. Jack whimpers in pain, but clings to the Pooka. "apples, promise." Bunny winces. the moment he makes it to land, he turns to look at the ice briefly. there's blood from his frozen paws and the frozen guardian in his arms dripped all across the ice. he's too worried about Jack to care how cold he is, how much pain he's in. he taps the ground twice and immediately jumps into the hole, speeding off for Norths.

Bunny can't even think for a minute. he should remember he was trying to get Jack for a guardians meeting, but he doesn't. not with icy, trembling, bloody arms wrapped around his neck as tight as they can be or trembling, frozen, bloody legs wrapped around his waist as tight as they can be. he bursts through the hole.

"NORTH!" Bunny shouts, stumbling across the floor. the other three guardians immediately look over, taking in the soaking wet guardians dripping water and blood all over the floor for a brief second, before jumping up and running over.

"Bunny! Jack! what happened!?" North asks, looking them over.

"the ice." Bunny manages. "the bloody galah was on the lake and a tree fell. he went with the ice." Bunny winces.

"you both look like you could use medical attention." Tooth says worriedly. Sandy has images flashing over his head nearly a mile a minute, but Bunny can't understand what the dream guardian is trying to say.

"we must get you both to Yetis." North says, carefully reaching for Jack. the frost guardian yelps in pain when gentle fingers come into contact with the wound on his back, Bunny turns quickly putting his back to North. it carefully, and protectively, puts his large Pooka body between North and Jack.

"y'ratbag derro! don' touch'im! yer gonna hurt'im!" Bunny snaps, shifting his hold on Jack carefully. the younger guardian holds tighter to his neck, refusing to remove his face from the Pookas fur. the Easter Bunny stumbles towards the room he knows North keeps medical supplies in, towards the infirmary.

"you're leaving blood all over the floor, are you alright?" Tooth asks, fluttering up behind him quickly. she can't take her eyes off the bloody paw prints trailing the limping Pooka. the freezing ice and freezing water had caused his soft and warm paw pads to stick to the ice, ripping them apart. Bunny nods slightly.

"be fine, Shelia, soon as we get Jack some help." Bunny mutters.

they rush the two injured guardians into a room. Bunny sits down, Jack refusing to let go of him. Phil, one of the Yetis, carefully grabs hold of Jack, but the smaller whimpers, holding tighter to Bunny. immediately the Pooka growls, something fierce. its a dangerous, almost rabid, animalistic growl erupts from his throat before he can stop it, carefully holding the smaller man tighter. Phil steps back immediately. North immediately jumps into action, pulling his Yeti away from the two injured guardians, attempting to soothe the angry Pooka.

it takes too long, it seems, to get both patched up. Jack refusing to let go and Bunny growling dangerously any time there was an attempt to take the younger man from his arms. it takes an hour to get them both patched up. by the time they're done Bunny has bandages up his arms, on his ears, and both of his hind paws, though his hind paws are covered in bloody bandages. the longer it took to help, the more the ice destroyed the Pooks fur, ripping it from his body it was so frozen. anything warm he touched ripped the fur from him, leaving patches of fur on the floor. it was painful, but he didn't care.

it had taken some soft murmured convincing to get Jack to pull back just enough the could patch him up, the young guardians entire torso was covered in bloody bandages, front and back. there were also bloody bandages on his head.

the two looked as though they'd fought a hard battle, not almost drown in a lake.

Bunny wants to lay down, but with Jack clinging to him the way he is, he's afraid to hurt him. he leans back, looking exhausted, against the wall, shifting the blankets around them. Jacks been asleep for at least 45 minutes, Bunny gently rubbing a paw up and down the smallers back, mindful of his wounds. the other three guardians are watching worriedly.

"what happened?" North asks. Bunny shakes his head, looking tired. he closes his eyes with a grunt.

its dark when Bunny wakes back up, still leaned back against the wall. he mumbles to himself, feeling Jack shift.

"Bunny...?" Jack asks, shifting. he doesn't move his face from the biggers neck.

"aye?" Bunny asks, gently squeezing the smaller. he's as gentle as he can be, only loosening his grip slightly when Jack shifts. his hold tightens back up immediately once he settles again.

"what happened?" Jack mumbles.

"tree fell, ice cracked, y'fell. I went an dragged y'out." Bunny mumbles, still half asleep. he's content to hold the younger as long as Jack needs him to.

"uh, Cottontail? wanna let me go? you could lay down if I wasn't holding onto you like this..." Jack trails hesitantly. the bunny mutters something, losening his grip just slightly. its just enough that Jack can wiggle some, unwrap his legs from around the Pookas waist, and settle against him comfortably. Bunny shifts him gently and flops over onto his side. he's careful, putting his arm around Jacks head gently to protect his head from thumping against the bed. no matter how soft the bed is, he doesn't want to bother the boys head injury. Jack yelps quietly, face in the biggers chest.

"I hurt ye?" Bunny asks.

"no. m'okay. just startled me." Jack mumbles. Bunny nods, gently pressing his nose against the top of Jacks head, carefully nuzzling against the mans hair. he doesn't want to hurt the wounds on Jacks head. the frost guardian curls up against him, absentmindedly running his fingers through the Pookas fur. its quiet between the two for a few minutes. the guardian of hope is almost asleep when Jack speaks. "Bunny?" Jack asks.

"Aster." he grumbles.

"huh?" Jack ask.

"s'm name ye galah." he mutters.

"oh." Jack mumbles, going quiet again. its only silent for a few minutes. "Aster?" Jack asks.

"yes?" Aster mumbles, pulling him closer.

"m'cold." Jack mumbles, apologetically. Aster goes quiet for a moment before he shifts.

"hang on Frostbite." Aster murmurs. he sits up and reaches for the blanket at the end of the bed that had fallen from them when Bunny move them, quickly pulling it up and over them, before he wraps his arms back around the smaller tightly. "better?" he asks. Jack nods against him silently, curling up more. his fingers don't cease their gentle carding through the Pookas fur and Bunny doesn't care enough to stop him. if it makes the younger feel better, than he doesn't mind. "ye okay?" he asks after a few moments. Jack curls in on himself more.

"yeah... I just... it scared me. I froze, I forgot how to swim." Jack mumbles.

"we all know what happened in that lake Frostbite. apples Jack, apples. I wouldn' let ye drown." Aster assures gently. "now get ye some rest." he murmurs. Jack cuddles closer and nods, letting his eyes fall shut. he could always count on Bunny. he could always count on Aster.
