Love what'cha have
Continued off of my previous one shot Surprise. Please enjoy.
Jacks Pookan memories had been coming back to him for two weeks now, and he still couldn't remember just how he'd gotten to Earth, and probably never would either. Bunny had admitted that he couldn't remember how he, himself, had ended up on Earth, he'd just woken up and was on Earth. he still didn't know, even after all his years.
there was something big Jack could remember though. he absolutely could remember, however, how he had met his human parents.
Yaca wakes up, utterly confused. hes not sure where is is, but its dark and cold. freezing cold. he's in a form he's never seen before, but is positive he must've taken on his new form in his sleep. its smaller than his normal form and there's no fur on him that he can see. he shivers, a Pookan swear slips off his tongue, just loud enough anyone near by could hear it.
"whose out there!?" a voice shouts. Yaca jumps immediately at the voice. he turns wuickly towards the voice, only to pause immediately. he freezes a few mere inches from the gun barrel pointed at his face. "damn it kid! what the hell are you doing out here stark nude!?" the man shouts.
Yaca stares quietly at the man, languages had been Asters area of expertice, not his. he'd never been interested in learning anything but Pookan languages.
"well?!" the man demands. Yaca jerks back, already shaking from the cold, but knowing he'd be no match for someone even this beings size in his current state. he didn't even have any of his weapons. Yaca swallows hard, shakily looking up at the being.
"I-I can't understand you." Yaca whimpers quietly. its all he could manage. the being pauses a momen, as if realizing the language barrier between the two, that he'd been yelling at a boy who couldn't even understand him. he watches the boy shiver and sighs.
the man sighs, putting his gun down.
"come here boy, put this on." the man says, holding his large coat out towards Yaca. when the boy does nothing more than continue to stare at him confused, he shakes his head, scooping the boy up. he's quick to wrap the naked child in his warm coat. Yaca melts immediately into the warmth around him. "I guess you're just going to have to come with me, Frigg is gonna love you." the man murmurs. Yaca looks up at him, confused.
"where are you taking me? put me down!" Yaca yelps, struggling a little.
"shhh shhh." the man soothes, tightening the coat around the small child. he smiles reassuringly at the boy, who looks more scared than confused at this point.
he carries the young boy back to his home, a large cabin.
"Gunnar? is that you?" a voice calls.
"its me Frigg." Gunnar calls back. a woman comes rushing into the room and pauses.
"Gunnar... what is that?" Frigg ask.
"a boy. he doesn't speak English, I've never heard the language he speaks before. found him outside. no one nearby, lucky I found him before he fell into that bear trap." Gunnar frowns.
"oh! poor dear!" Frigg says, walking over to them quickly, she takes the boy. "oh! he's naked." Frigg frowns.
"found him like that." Gunnar frowns. "get him cleaned up and warmed up. he's filthy and covered in wounds." Gunnar adds. Frigg nods, carrying the boy off to another room.
Yaca has no idea whats happening when the woman places him in a large tub and walks off to warm some water on the stove.
"do you have a name dear?" Frigg asks, looking over. Yaca stares at her confused, but unable to take his eyes off her. she reminded him of his mother, who was long since dead and gone, and he found himself unable to do much but stare. Frigg dumps some warm water into the tub and goes to warm some more, turning to look at him again. "do you have a name?" Frigg asks slowly.
Pookans are smart, thankfully, his brain can quickly understand things. these beings don't speak his language, so he'll learn theirs. he does ,however, look confused as to what her words mean still.
"do you have... something people call you?" Frigg asks. Yaca nods quickly. "oh! can you tell me?" Frigg asks.
"Yaca." Yaca murmurs. Frigg looks confused, thinking the name over.
"Jackfruit? your name is Jackfruit?" Frigg asks. Yaca looks confused.
"Yaca." he repeats, not sure what she's says. Frigg nods, dumping more water into the tub. she crouches and smiles at him.
"Yaca means Jackfruit, in my language." Frigg murmurs gently. Yaca blinks at her and Frigg nods slightly. "Yaca, people call me Frigg." Frigg says softly. Yaca looks more confused.
"Frigga? you are called, Love?" Yaca asks. Frigg smiles.
"Frigg." Frigg says gently, before pointing to the boy. "Yaca." Frigg says gently. she then points at herself. "Frigg." she smiles.
"Frigga." Yaca murmurs. Frigg smiles at him.
"thats very close dear." Frigg smiles. she stands, motioning gently for the boy to stay in the water, Yaca nods. he recognizes a bath when he sees one, Pooka weren't animals. Frigg walks away and comes back a few moments later, shocked to find a small white Fox in the tub where she'd left Yaca. "Yaca!?" Frigg calls. Yaca looks up confused.
"Yaca." the Fox says softly.
"on my gods." Frigg says, staring at him.

"as I got older, I... stopped being able to use my Pookan form and... eventually forgot, though I assume Manny had something to do with that." Jack frowns, looking at his mate.
"possible Manny was afraid what humans would do to ya if they could actually see a talking Fox." Bunny frowns. Jack nods.
"they took me in while I was in my low energy state... I was with them for five years when Emma was born. by then I had basically forgotten who I was, she never knew I wasn't actually her brother... I just remembered being found in the woods. they told me my parents hadn't wanted me so they took me in. told me it so much I forgot who I was." Jack says softly, picking at the fur on his leg. his white fur picked up and showed dirt so much more than Bunnys did. "I let them make me forget." Jack says.
"don't be like that Snowflake. they were doin' their best t' keep ya safe." Bunny assures gently.
"when I went into the ice, thinking I was their kid, saving my little sister, and came back out as Jack Frost... Manny never mentioned it once, that I wasn't human..." Jack trails. Bunny shrugs slightly.
"ya woke up different because the man ya thought was yer father, was close enough yer magic didn' think ya were safe... I woke up with no humans around. I got t' remember and ye got to be... not a warrior for a bit. maybe he was trying to do the right thing, he did it the wrong way, but Manny was tryin' t' help Jack." Bunny tries.
"help? help? I forgot who I was! I didn't know anything about who I really was! he should've told me! we could've had more time together! I could've been me! I wouldn't have had to be alone for so long letting people walk through me! you wouldn't have been carrying the guilt for years of being the last Pooka alive!" Jack shouts. Bunny watches him and sighs softly and pulls Jack to his side.
"if that what this is about?" Bunny ask. Jack looks up at him. "Frostbite, the survivers guilt doesn't just disappear because I found out Yaca, ye, was alive. the guilt is still there." Bunny murmurs softly. Jack tenses and pulls himself away glaring at Bunny.
"and how many years did you spend grieving me. grieving the mate you couldn't save? how many years did Aster grieve the loss of Yaca? huh? wouldn't it have hurt a little less to know you didn't have to grieve your friends, your family, your people, you're fucking mate, alone? that you didn't have to grieve me at all?" Jack asks. Bunny goes quiet, ears drooping. Jacks right. it would've hurt so much less to at least have his mate by his side the whole time, but he has him now.
"I have Yaca back now, whats in the past... changed us both, sometimes for the better, ya wouldn't be Jack Frost if ya had known who ya were in the first place. sure, it would've hurt less t' have ya the whole time... but this way... yer not just Yaca, me mate anymore. yer Yaka, Jackfruit, Jack Overland, Jack Frost. yer so much more than that Pooka I knew from the neighborhood years ago." Bunny murmurs. "ye love bein' Jack Frost, don'tcha?" Bunny ask.
"well, yeah but-" Jack tries.
"ye'd have never become Jack Frost if ya were still Yaca. that dirty little farmer Pooka that Eucalyptus couldn't get outta the dirt." Bunny murmurs. "I love ye, both ways of course, but ya seem... happier than ya ever did as Yaca." Bunny adds, holding tighter. Jack cuddles up to him.
"Eucalyptus." Jack says softly.
"do ya remember who that is?" Bunny ask. Jack cuddles up to him more. he remembers the beautiful white Pooka with the brightest blue eyes Jack had ever seen, black markings in her fur similar to the light blue ones in Jacks.
"she was my mother." Jack murmurs with a small smile.
"aye." Bunny murmurs. "that she was an she'd be proud of who ya are Jack, even if it took ya a while t' get here. s'okay. it hurt us both, but in the end, the outcome outweighs that hurt, or it does for me at least. don't waste yer time grieving what could've been, I did enough of that fer the both of us, love what'cha have now." Bunny murmurs. Jack nods and wraps his arms tightly around him.
"I do... thanks Aster." Jack murmurs, dropping his head onto Bunnys chest, letting his mate chin him between the ears happily.
"don't matter what happened mate, ye'll always be Yaca t' me ya fruit fly." Bunny teases. Jack laughs and cuddles closer.
"can we just cuddle a bit...?" Jack asks. "it feels really nice like this." Jack murmurs, letting his eyes flutter closed. Bunny chuckles softly, shifting in their nest. he leans back against the wall behind him, pulling Jack into his lap. he holds tighter.
"of course." Bunny murmurs. for a brief moment, Bunny closes his eyes with a smile on his face.
he remembers laying in the warm fields of Yacas family property, leaned back against an apple tree with his eyes closed, humming a song softly. Yaca cuddled up to him the way he is now, both half asleep, enjoying the sunlight and sleepily discussing if they want kits when they're older and, if they did, who would carry them. both far too young to carry and far to young to understand the full details of being mated to one another, but content to think of their happy future together.
Bunny lets out a sigh happily, squeezing his mate gently. he can squeeze as tight as he wants while Jack is like this, the shorter is just as stout as he is, it's harder to hurt him like this. Bunny lets himself drift off to sleep, mate happily curled up in his arms, in a way Bunny had only been able to dream of for thousands of years.
