Chapter 3

{ Go check out The Mandalorian! It's such a good series >w< }

[This story swaps perspectives in first person]

-20 minutes earlier-

Lyra

"Dad! When's dinner?" I ask, laying against my pillow.

"Sweetie, did you say something? Please come down if you want to ask something," Dad calls out from the lower level.

I groan. I got home from school only a few minutes ago and I'm tired. I slump out of bed and drag my feet down the stairs, the wood smooth against my socks.

"I asked when dinner was going to be ready," I repeat.

"Most likely ten, fifteen minutes." Dad answers. I look around the living room, and when I don't see Dad, I slump into the kitchen. I see him boiling water in a pot on the stove. He looks up as he pours spaghetti noodles into the pot.

"Are we having spaghetti?" I ask, tilting my head.

Dad shrugs with a smile. "Do you want something else?"

"Nah." I say quickly. "You know very well I'll eat almost anything you give me." I shrug.

"Key word, almost." Dad chuckles.

I roll my eyes. "I'm gonna go get some fresh air." I yawn and start heading to the stairs so I can go change.

"Hold up! Do you want meatballs?" Dad stops me in my tracks.

"Sure, why not?" I shrug again. I love meatballs, I think as I lick my lips.

I change into a sweater and jeans, then slip my flats on and make my way outside. The smell of spaghetti sauce and cooking meat fills the air.

I take a deep breath and head for the backdoor in the living room. It was a glass sliding door with a white rim.

I tugged the handle to the side, but the door didn't budge.

I sighed. The door was stuck again. This wasn't the first time I hadn't been able to open it.

I blinked and looked behind me. Dad was still in the kitchen cooking. He wouldn't be able to help me.

I bite my lip and close my eyes, thinking of anger. I think about being left out in school, and how no one noticed me.

Then I focus on channeling the energy to my arm. I pull up my sweater sleeve. I breath deeply and open my eyes to see my forearm down to my fingertips tinted bright green. It wasn't the first time it happened.

With one swift move I lightly grip the door handle and tug it loose, the door creaking as it slid open.

I sighed and shook my arm out, my sleeve coming back down my arm. I press on my forearm lightly with my other hand. Slight pain tiptoed across my vines as I ran my hand back and forth.

"You got that door working this time?" Dad called from the kitchen.

"Yep!" I answer as brightly as I can. I bite my lip and step outside, the cold breeze running through my hair.

I cross my arms and close my eyes for a moment, taking in the quiet scenery.

All of a sudden, the ground starts to shake. I open my eyes and widen my stance to keep my balance. I look around, only to see Dad poke his head past the open glass door.

"Lyra! What did you do?!" he calls out.

"Nothing!" I yell in panic. Then, there's a bright light behind me, too bright for me to turn around. Colors cast shadows next to me as I put my forearm to my forehead, shading me from the light.

A few moments later, the light disappears and I look up to see Dad staring past me. I finally turn around and gasp at what I see.

It was a girl–most likely my age–with golden hair that was red at the tips. Her armor moved up and down with her body. I staggered backwards as she stood, bruises and blood all along her arms and dripping down her legs. In her hand was a hammer.

"I need Strange," she says quietly. "Stephen Strange."

Origin

"Please," I beg the humans looking at me. "My father is Thor, God of Thunder. There's a war going on in Asgard. We might loose if the Kree get this." I open my hand to show the gleaming blue power stone.

"Kree? Who–" the smaller human starts.

The larger human interrupts. "No. No, no, no, no. This can't be happening." He runs his fingers through his hair. "After all we did to get rid of them."

"Dad?" the girl asks. She turns her head to the man, her long black hair swaying in the wind.

"Please!" I plead again. My arms hurt from the battling I've done. "This is my last chance to save my father!"

Ding! Dong! I hear a noise.

"I'll get it." the man says. He leaves the girl alone with me.

"Do you know where Stephen Strange is?" I ask again. I take a step forward, but needles jab my ankle and I almost fall to the ground with a yelp.

"I... I don't, but I bet my dad does," she says with a nod.

"My name is Origin. Please, help me." I curl my fingers around the stone as the man comes back with two young boys. One has dirty blond hair and the other has dark brown, almost black locks.

"Woah!" one says.

"You don't look so good." The other bites his lip.

"My name is Origin. I come from Asgard, searching for Steven Strange. My father is in danger and I need help," I blurt quickly.

"I know where he lives," the boy with dark brown hair offers. "The Sanctum Sanctorum. Although, I don't know how to get there." He shrugs.

"Yes. We can get there by car." the man from before says.

"We need to go now," I insist, taking another step forward. My ankle goes sideways and I yelp as I fall to the ground.

"Oh, my God, are you okay?!" the blond boy asks with a gasp. The girl comes over and hooks her arm under mine, helping me lift myself up.

"T-Thank you." I let out a cry from the pain. "Please take me there now."

"Can we come too?" both of the boys say at the same time.

The man sighs. "Why not? I mean I don't know you but you seem to know where you guys are going." He huffs.

"Oh, I'm Gabriel Rogers. I live across the street." The blonde boy nods.

"Cooper Barton at your service." The other boy smiles.

"I'm Lyra," the girl introduces herself.

"Call me Mr. Banner." The man sighs. "Nice to know a relative of Cap," he says.

"You know my grandfather? No wonder your name sounds familiar!" Gabriel cheers.

"Please. We need to go now," I push. I watch as blood drips down my hand.

"Yeah, come on." Lyra helps me walk into her home. I smile to myself. Father. I'm coming to help you, I think with happiness.

Damian

I yawn and secure my second web shooter tightly around my wrist. I make a circle motion with my hand, making sure I can still move it.

BEEP! I hear my phone. I aim my web across the room to my desk where my phone is. With a swift motion, I shoot the web and it lands on my phone case. I smile and pull my phone back across the room into my hands.

I got a message from Morgan. I had asked for her number in math earlier today.

Hey! You free? she asks.

Not really. Why? I reply.

Oh nvm. Just wanted to tell you something and get some help. I get back a few moments later.

What do you need? Maybe I could swing by later today? I shrug as I send the message.

Sure. I'll send you my address. Tell me when you're on your way.

Gotcha.

I smile and toss my phone on my bed, a piece of web still stuck to it.

I look up at the portal Angel made. It was still going bright.

I bend down into a squat and jump over my bed, barely skimming it with my feet.

Still got it, I think with a smile. I hop through the portal and land in the Sanctum Sanctorum. I fidget with my sweater strings as I look for Angel.

I look over my shoulder and the portal starts to close.

"You put your sweater back on?" I hear a voice. I look forward and almost jump when I see Angel staring up at me.

"I only took it off because I had no shirt. I always need one of those." I smirk.

Angel rolls her eyes. "Come on. There's a few guests here." She leads me to a large room with multiple chairs lined up next to each other. Angel's dad was sitting in a separate chair across from them all. His free-minded cloak floats next to him.

I recognized two of the guests. Gabriel and Cooper. The other three didn't really ring a bell. Maybe two of them were father-daughter, but they didn't look alike. The last was a bloody girl with golden hair. Wonder what happened to her, I think, biting my lip.

"And you didn't think they would follow you?" Doctor Strange asks the blonde-haired girl. He presses his fingers together. "Get up and check your clothes."

She quickly got up, clearly supporting most of her weight on one foot.

"Damian, welcome. This is Lyra, Mr. Banner, Gabriel, Cooper, and Origin." He names everyone from left to right. "Please check Origin's clothing." He points to the bloody girl. "She escaped Asgard from the Kree, but we need to make sure she wasn't followed."

"You want me to look for a tracking device?" I guess, still not really understanding the situation.

"Yes. I don't know what one would look like or how well they would've hidden it. Neither does Origin. You might though."

"Sure." I hesitate as I step closer to her. I look around her blood stained armor. Where would they place a tracker? I ask myself. "Did one of them grab you?" I ask her.

"Yes and no. The last one I encountered grabbed my ankle which is why it's hurt." She stated.

"Hmm." I examined her hit leg. The cape she had on her back almost fully surrounded it.

I use my hand to move it to the side. The armor wrapped around half of her leg, leather buckles strap it into place.

I don't see anything out of the ordinary-even if the armor is weird enough for me.

"What about her upper leg?" Cooper suggested. "Or the cape. In the Incredibles, the tracker was on the cape."

"You're so old, dude." Gabriel laughs.

"He might be right though," Lyra pipes in.

"I can check." I stand and grip Origin's shoulders. "Can you turn please?" I ask. She limps to the side, then manages to turn around.

I scan her cloak. The blood red color was bright. It would be a perfect place to put a tracker if it glowed red.

I kneel to the ground and see a ripped part on the edge of her cape. I blink and edge closer right as a loud beeping sound fills the air.

I can sense everyone looking around. They can hear it too. I infer, biting my lip. Then, as I look closer, I see it. A small red clip attached to the tip of Origin's cape.

Beep! Beep! The sound gets louder and faster. I jerk my head up as I get a tingle in the back of my head.

"Everyone get down!" I yell right as the ceiling above us collapses in a giant square. Parts of the ceiling fall apart as everyone runs to the side. Origin falls to the ground as she tries to run.

I get another tingle in the back of my head and I jump into Origin, sliding her across the smooth floor. I look over my shoulder to see a large chunk of the ceiling crash into the floor.

"Go!" I hear Angel's father. I look up to see him floating in the air, shields against his fists. He knocks away another chunk of the ceiling right as a man in bright turquoise armor falls on top of him.

I gasp and quickly grab onto Origin.

Angel

I jump backwards with a yelp as pavement crashes to the stone floor in front of me. I wave my arms, casting my shield spell.

"Get out of here!" Dad struggles against the man in blue armor. Dust is blown everywhere as more soldiers hop down from the hole in the ceiling.

"Dad!" I yell and jump onto the man on top of him. I smash my shield into him, causing him to fall off Dad. I fall on top of him as his head gets smashed into the ground with a loud crack! "Don't touch my father!" I hiss.

"Angel!" I hear Damian shout. I look up to see another man about to fall on top of me. I yelp and put my shields over my head right as Damian catches him in his webs. The man gets launched to the side as he yells.

"Dang!" I hear Gabriel yell. "We have two wizards and a Spiderman?" I can't help but laugh at his comment.

I hear a growl and another yell as I look up to see a buff green girl raging at another soldier. What in the- I don't get to finish my thought because I get a hard punch in the face.

I stagger backwards in shock and I look up to see a girl in the same blue armor.

"Ow!" I remark as she launches herself at me with a yell. I swiftly roll to the side and cast my shield spell once more in panic. Only one of the shields appear as I get another blow to the jaw.

"Weak!" the girl comments.

"Excuse me!" I yell back with a growl. I feel blood drip down my face.

I jump on top of her and jab my shield into her cheek, immediately causing a bruise.

"Ack!" The girl puts her arm to my face, elbowing my jaw. I fall to the side and groan from the pain.

I move my jaw back and forth and blink away tears.

The girl stands and jumps on top of me again.

"Get away from her!" I hear a yell. The green girl pounces on the soldier and they both get launched to the side.

I quickly push myself up.

"To the car! Let's go!" Mr. Banner yells.

I manage to swerve past another man in armor and I race to the entrance of my home.

"Dad!" I call out. I look over my shoulder. He's fighting three of them at the same time.

Then, Wong jumps into the air and lands on one of them, making the man go face first into the concrete.

"You sure came late," Dad remarks as he blocks a punch from another one of them.

"Better late than never," Wong counters.

"Angel, we gotta go!" I feel a hand grab my wrist. I get dragged out the door of my home.

"Damian!" His worried eyes make me hurt.

"Get in the car," he says.

"Th-There isn't enough room." I try, pulling away. "I need to get to my dad!" I look up at the top of the Sanctum Sanctorum. A large-almost definitely alien-aircraft was hovering above it.

"No! We don't have time!" He pulls me close and gets into the car.

"No... no!" I reject, struggling.

"You know very well I'm stronger than you. Now sit still!" He plants me into his lap as tears stream down my face.

"No!" I yell again as he shuts the door.

Gabriel

The car starts, and soon we're driving on the road. Angel stuffs her face into Damian's neck, tears soaking his sweater.

"Do you have the stone?" Mr. Banner asks Origin, who's next to him in the passenger's seat.

"Yes," she sobs, leaning into the seat.

"Where do we go now, though?" Cooper asks. "We're too far from my house."

"We can't go to mine. It's directly across from your guys' home." I motion to Lyra who's squeezed in between Cooper and me.

"Too far from mine, too," Damian says with a sigh. "I think I know a place we can go though." He reaches for his pocket. "Nevermind, I forgot my phone." He groans. "I'm such an idiot," he mumbles. He holds his crying friend close.

"Hold up, did you take that tracker off of Origin?" I ask quickly.

Gasps fill the car. "We need to get it off before we go anywhere." Lyra says in panic.

"Origin, can you manage?" Damian asks. "It's on the bottom of your cloak."

"I think I can." The Goddess adjusts herself in her chair.

The car slows to a stop as we hear a click.

"You got it?" Cooper asks. A moment later the car starts moving again.

"I think," Origin answers.

"Good, toss it out the window." Mr. Banner orders as we hear a squeak from the window being put down.

"Mmm-ha!" Origin tosses a small red object out the window.

Sighs of relief fill the car as the window is rolled back up. Everything is quiet again until a soft snore fills the air.

"Don't tell me she's asleep." I roll my eyes in annoyance.

"It's not like I can tell," Damian mumbles quietly. "All I know is that she was in tears a few moments ago."

"If she's a wizard like her father, shouldn't she be able to create portals?" Cooper asks.

"Yeah. I mean it's more complex than you'd think but, why?" Damian shrugs the best he can.

"Oh! She can create a portal to where your phone is!" Lyra whisper-yells in excitement as she connects the dots in her head.

"That's a good plan." Mr. Banner looks over his shoulder for a split second. "But if she can teleport to your phone–"

"Make a portal," Damian interrupts, correcting him.

"Right. Well, shouldn't she be able to bring us to a safe place?"

"It's not that simple. One, Angel needs to know what the place looks like, which she doesn't." Damian explains. "And two, she needs a magical object called a Sling Ring. I don't know if she still has it on her so we'll need to make sure when she wakes up."

"My head hurts just from that explanation." I shake my head.

"Like I said, more complex than you'd think," he repeats himself.

"And how did you find all this out?" Lyra asks.

"Angel and I have been friends for a few years now. She uses a portal to meet up with me everyday at school."

"Makes sense." Lyra shrugs. More silence fills the air.

"I think we may be far enough from the tracker," Mr. Banner says as he pulls into a pretty dark alleyway. It leads into a dead end. "I think this is a good enough place for Angel to make a portal. Everyone out to stretch your legs." The car locks click. "Lyra, help Origin out of the car."

"Yeah, alright." Lyra huffs as Cooper and Damian open the doors.

"Angel, get up, we need you," Damian says quietly as he hops out of the car with Angel in his hands. I hurry out after him.

"So let me get this straight," I start. "We have a wizard, a Spiderman, a retired Hulk, a She-Hulk, and a goddess." I count off my fingers. "Plus a teenager who can use a bow and arrow."

"What about you?" Lyra asks. "And please do not call me She-Hulk." She opens the passenger door to help Origin.

"All he gets is a shield," Cooper snickers as he points a finger at me.

"Shut up. You're extra lucky you're one of my best friends." I run my fingers through my hair. Cooper laughs.

"I'm sorry guys," I hear a small voice. I look over my shoulder to see Angel wiping her tears.

"Don't be," I shrug. "We do need some help though."

Cooper

Angel nods. "Yeah. I understand." She lifts up her hand to show us what Damian called a "Sling Ring." It was a golden bar with two large rings attached to the underside.

"You use that thing?" I ask. "It's kinda...small."

"Yes, but it has the power to harness energy from other dimensions and make portals from one dimension to the other. Or, two points in the universe."

I blink and edge over to Gabriel. "Definitely more complex than I thought," I whisper. Gabe snickers.

"Where to, again?" she asks.

"My bedroom." Damian lets out a sigh.

Angel steps closer to the brick wall in front of the car. She closes her eyes, puts one hand out-which had the Sling Ring-and made circular motions with the other hand. Soon sparks start to appear in front of her. I jump back. Are those sparks from fire? I question. The sparks open up to make an oval.

I couldn't help but laugh when I saw clothes all over Damian's room. "Shut up." he mumbles to me. He steps through as Angel relaxes.

"Cool. Can you do that to get me home?" Gabe jokes, crossing his arms.

"No. Not until I come over and memorize what it looks like." Angel shrugs, looking over her shoulder at Gabriel.

"Got it." Damian appears out of the portal and it closes behind him.

"Great." Mr. Banner goes around the car to the driver's seat. "Everyone back in. Damian, I'm gonna need the address."

"Already on it." Damian was looking down at his phone, typing frantically. "Hope she doesn't mind the sudden arrival." he mumbles.

"She?" I repeat with a smirk. "Someone has a girlfriend over here." I elbow him in the arm as he passes me.

"Dude. Chill." He narrows his eyes at me. We all cram back into the car the same way as before.

Soon enough the car starts up again and we're on the road.

Morgan

I yawn and finish melding red and grey pieces of metal together. I heave the large piece into the air and set it on my large wooden desk. I run my fingers over the rough surface. I bite my lip as my skin gets caught on a chunk of metal.

"Need to smooth that," I mumble as I reach across the table for my charcoal pencil. I mark an X on the metal and stick the back of the pencil between my teeth.

I repeat the process a few times until I'm positive I got all the spots.

I stick the pencil back in my mouth and bring the large metal over to my grinder. I had finally been able to convince my mom to buy me one.

Beep! I hear right before I turn on the machine.

I carefully set the metal on the floor and jog over to my phone.

I got a message from Damian. Took him long enough, I think and roll my eyes.

Hey, is it okay if my friends and I come over now? It's a pretty big emergency, his message reads.

I blink. Okay..? I reply. Surely mom wouldn't care who came over if she thought they were my friends.

Great! Try not to be TOO surprised, okay? After that message was a surprised emoji.

I laugh. Lol, sure, I respond.

"You finally made friends?" I look up to see my mother's face in the doorway to the lab. I quickly take my pencil out of my mouth.

"Yeah, actually," I answer with a smile.

"Good." Mom gives me a smile back. That was the first time in weeks she had genuinely smiled at me.

"Oh, Mom?" I ask quickly as she starts to leave.

"Yes?" She looks over her shoulder.

"My friends are coming over today. Hope that's okay."

There was a pause. "Sure. I would love to meet your friends."

"Great! Thanks, Mom!" I reply cheerfully.

And with that she leaves.

"Now I need to finish this chest plate." I mumble as I look over my shoulder at the armor stand I had set up. I put the pieces of armor I had finished on it. I only got the legs and one of the arms though.

"Jarvis," I say.

"Yes, sir?" the machine asks.

"I need an analysis on the..." I pause, not being able to think of the word. Then it clicks into my mind. "On the durability of the metal." I point to the large plate of steel.

"Right away, sir." Jarvis answers as mechanical arms appear from the ceiling. Then he pauses for a moment. "There appears to be multiple people at the door, sir."

That quickly? I think in slight shock.

"How many?" I ask.

"Seven," Jarvis answers. "And one looks very badly injured."

Oh, no. Mom's gonna freak out. I think as I rush to the stairs. "Keep working on that analysis!" I call as I swing the glass door open.

"Of course, sir."

I rush up the stairs by two as I hear a ding, dong! from the door bell.

"I got it, Mom!" I yell quickly. I rush past her through the living room.

"Whoa! Hun, slow down!" she comments with a huff. Ding, dong! I hear again.

"I'm coming!" I yell and jog to the front door. Damian is the first face I see. Angel and the rest of the group were behind her. The older looking man–most likely the father of one of them–was carrying the injured girl Jarvis was talking about.

"Oh, goodness." I bite my lip. "Please come inside and be quiet." I let them all in. I lead them through the living room and back to the stairs leading down to the lab.

"Mom! I'll be hanging out with my friends downstairs!" I motion them to go down. Damian quickly leads the group down the stairs into the lab in confusion.

"Hunny, don't be reckless around your machines, okay?" Mom snuggles onto the couch, not looking up from the movie she turned on.

"You know I'm always careful," I reassure her. "If you need me, just call. You don't have to bother coming down."

"Alright...," she replies worryingly. "I trust you." She looks over her shoulder and gives me a kind smile. I return it before hurrying downstairs.

"Whoa...," I hear as I come through the glass door. Damian was busy examining the armor stand with one of the strangers while Angel and the others helped the hurt girl sit down on a large box full of my equipment.

"Hey, are you the daughter of Ironman?" the stranger next to Damian asks. I give him an annoyed look.

"Rule number one while you're here: no asking personal questions." I send a glare at the kid who asked me. He looks at me with an annoyed look as he runs his hand through his dirty blond hair. "Rule number two: do not touch anything that looks valuable," I growl.

The two boys immediately step away from my armor stand. "And rule number three: Damian, you better explain yourself. If my mom sees this hurt girl, she'll scream and send you all out of the house."

Everyone is quiet.

"Sir," Jarvis fills the silence. I sigh.

"Hold on for a moment. Yes, Jarvis?" I ask, looking up at the ceiling.

"Your analysis is complete."

"Well...?" I push. I hear whispers from the strangers and I jerk my head at them in annoyance.

"There are a few errors and cracks along the inside of the steel. May I help you fix it?"

"One second." I look to everyone else. "I need you guys to come to this side of the room while Jarvis works. He may be an AI, but I still get hit in the head sometimes when he's working."

In silence, the group maneuvers to the front of the lab, near the door.

"Do your thing Jarvis. I marked out where the metal was too rough. I'll need you to smooth that out first. And try to be quieter this time." I place my hands on my hips. More mechanical arms appear from holes in the ceiling as I face the group.

"Now, what in the world is going on here?" I question.
