Chapter 2 - A Long Way To Fall
"They were Guardians!?!?!?" Jack cried in shock, "If they're so dangerous that they need to be locked up, then why were they Guardians in the first place?"
"They became Guardians the same way that all of us did," North answered, "Man in Moon chose us. But over time, they became corrupted. They believed that the only way to keep the children safe, was to get rid of the adults in the world.
"The four of us managed to defeat them, and we sealed them away in a mirror dimension." He gestured to the now-unchained door, "But now, Man in Moon says that now we must seek their help in stopping Pitch once and for all. "
The Guardians strode through the door, which led to a strange sight. It looked just like North's workshop, but all the colours were washed out.
"Incoming!" someone yelled as a soccer ball flew over to the Guardians and nearly hit Bunnymund in the head. A red-eyed boy with purple hair and purple bunny ears chased after the ball, followed closely by a green-eyed girl with light blue hair and bunny ears. A blond boy with yellow bear ears and completely black eyes with white pupils suddenly appeared in front of the ball.
"No fair Goldie!" the girl whined as the blond boy kicked the ball over the heads of her and the purple-haired boy, "We said no powers!"
"All's fair in love, war, and games!" a brown-haired boy with ice-blue eyes and brown bear ears called to the girl, intercepting the ball that the blond had kicked to him.
The blond boy vanished, and the first two children chased after the brunette boy, laughing giddily.
Jack stared after them in confusion, glancing at the others, he saw that they were all wearing expressions of recognition at the children that were playing around.
"Nicholas St. North," a slightly raspy voice said, "what brings you to the void between worlds?"
The Guardians spun around to see three girls. The one who spoke had dark skin, green eyes, and black hair threaded through with colourful streaks. The girl to her left had pink eyes and purple hair that had colourful peace signs and hearts dyed in it. The girl to the speaker's right had violet eyes and her hair was striped in white, yellow, pink and purple, so it looked a bit like an Easter egg.
"Hello Skye," North said to the dark-haired girl, "We came here to ask for help from you and your friends."
"Wow, you must be desperate to ask for our help," Skye said. As she spoke, more children came out of the shadows to stand around the Guardians in a semicircle, including the ones that had been playing earlier.
"Pitch is back," Tooth said. This had no visible reaction from any of the children, however Jack noticed that a brief expression of fear crossed the face of one of the girls, who had purple-tinted black hair and eyes that matched those of the blond boy from earlier, before vanishing into indifference once again.
"So what?" Skye said with a roll of her emerald eyes, "And who's the newbie? I don't believe we've met."
"I'm Jack Frost," Jack said, slightly offended.
"My name's Skye," she said, "This is Aria, Baby, Ballora, Bidybab, Bonbon, Bonnet, Bonnie, Bree, CC, Chica, Cindy, Desiree, Electrobab, Ennard, Foxy, Freddy, Goldie, Harmony, JJ, Jubilee, Lolbit, Mangle, Marion, Minireena, Nightmare, Plushtrap, Rose, Seraphina, Shadow, and Springtrap."
"Now that the introductions are out of the way," Bunnymund said, "Are you guys going to help us or not?"
Shadow suddenly walked over to Jack and caught his chin in her hand, staring into his pale eyes.
"He's been touched by darkness," she said in a monotone, releasing Jack's head, "how did that happen?"
"Touched by darkness?" Jack asked her, confused.
"It means that the darkness had tried to corrupt you before," she answered, "If a Guardian becomes 'corrupted' in any way, he or she become one of the Fallen, like us. And it's a very long way to fall."
If Jack had had any colour left in his pale face, it was gone now.
"Guardians becoming corrupted aside," Skye interjected, "what's in it for us if we help you? Pitch can't touch us here."
"You guys get to come back into the real world," Tooth said.
"But if you start that crusade of yours again, that offer's off the table," Bunnymund added.
Skye held up her right hand as her friends did the same, "I swear to never do anything like that ever again. Cross my heart and hope to die, stab a needle in my eye."
"Come on," North said, beckoning to the children. He led them and the other Guardians back through the door and into the real world.
