Chapter One: Aique and Regrets
"Okay," I grunted, trying to lift Arrow off the ground," Time to go." Being in a coma for a year really had an effect on my muscles. Lifting up just Arrow's arm made me tired.
I walked Arrow, out of the bar. He really wasn't as wasted as Heiro, s o he could walk normally for the most part. His vision was just slightly blurry and he stumbled around a bit.
"Heiro!" Scarlet yelped, running over to him. He had somehow managed to crawl his way to the entrance. I held Arrow by the shoulder, looking angrily at his drunken mashed up face, desperately ignoring his perfect jawline and dashing eyelashes. He smiled at me and I almost melted.
In acquaintance with these emotions, I decided to do the best thing I saw possible in that moment.
So I punched him.
"And that," I dusted off my fist, blowing on the top of my knuckles," Is why you will never be going back to the bar. Got it?" Arrow, his ass high in the air, gave me a thumbs up between his moans of pain and humiliation.
"Hey!" Steve said," I know were can go till these two dummies sober up!" He pointed down the street. At the end of the long main street I could just barely make out the words Aique's Raewsserd. The name seemed familiar enough, but I couldn't quick place the face.
"Heiro mentioned how je wanted to take Skye here as soon as possible."
We made the way down the street, keeping small talk and laughing all the way. It was definitely good to be back where I belonged. It didn't take long for Heiro and Arrow to sober up, turns out they weren't as wasted as I had initially thought. But they were violently complaining about the small hangover they had. Heiro and Arrow we're mumbling off to the side to one another. Then a second later Heiro switched positions and walked next to Scarlet, asked her something, and when she nodded he went back to Arrow to report Ruby, Steve, Star and I exchanged some memories. When we finally stood outside of what had seemed to be a recognizable place was in fact just that. I turned to face to group.
L
"This is Aique's shop!" I looked at Star. Star dropped her conversation with Ruby, looked up at the sign, turned slowly to Steve, grabbed his throat, and began shaking and strangling him.
"Why you little!-"
"Jeez Star," Arrow pulled Steve away from him, holding out his hand in protest," We all know you hate Steve's guts but don't kill him right in the middle of Minetopia!" Star glared around to see many other people either stopping to watch in horror or quickly rushing past while throwing hestantie and nervous glances our way. Star closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and exhaled.
"This is not over." Star seethed through grinded teeth, pointing accusingly at him. Steve held his hands up in surrender, giving a sly smile,
"Never said it was." He winked. I could've sworn he had a thing for either Star or being intensely choked out by Star. Star just crossed her arms and stood in the most uptight positions known to humankind. Scarlet rolled her eyes and walked in through the glass double door, almost completely ignoring Steve and Star's choking incident. Behind the counter was a girl with red hair and black bangs. When the bell on the door went off the ladies ears perked up, her expression going from straight to hopefully. I stared around us, making sure I wasn't dreaming. It had been such a long time yet I remember this place. I remembered it well.
"Hello, and welcome to Aique's Raewsserd. How many I help you today?" Heiro looked around the shop for what I was assuming to be the well remembered Aique.
"Yeah... is Aique here by any chance?" He asked. The girl ( whose name tags read Ruby on it's golden platform) flicked her ears, and pointed to the door behind the counter.
"You want the CEO?" She said, eyebrows raised. Heiro nodded. Ruby went into the back room, retrieved Aique, and stood back silently behind the desk, this time with a faked bright smile. Another lady walked up to the counter, asking for help, and the employee that was once behind the counter took off with the lady to the opposite side of the store, seeming as if she'd rather be in Notch's spot than anywhere in this building.
We gave our attention to Aique. She still had those metal wings on the side of her head, but this time her once colorful clothing were replaced with a salmon colored polo shirt with her name and the word CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER next to it.
"Hi Aique." Heiro grinned, shaking her hand.
"Hi you guys. I haven't seen you all in so long!" She took Heiro's hand and shook it furiously," What can I do for you all today?" Aique glanced at Star, giving her some sort of seductive eyebrow raising motion. In response Star flipped her off. It was good to see that a NetherStorm's attitude was never affected.
"Ah yes," Heiro looked at me then back at Aique," I'm not sure if my other companions would like to buy anything, but I came here to purchase a new outfit for my sister." Bewildered, I stared wide-eyed at my half brother. I mean, I had been wearing the same outfit hospital gown for a year now, and the current clothes I had on had collected dust and had faded blood stains in them from my skull. It'd be nice to have a wardrobe upgrade.
"Of course! Right this way." Aique led us happily to the counter, reterived something from under and spreaded out a mild selection of photos out on the counter top. I stared blankly at Heiro. I couldn't use his precious diamonds and Emeralds to buy myself a new outfit! I hadn't even seen him for a year and already he was helping me out to much.
"Heiro," I looked up at him," Thank you for the offer but really I can't."
"Come on sis, you can choose anything! My treat. I promise this won't effect me."
"Really I can't do that to you!"
Taken aback, he said," Well... Of course you can! Here," he rearanged the photos of different outfits, moving about 4 different ones toward Aique," We'd like to try on those ones." He beamed back at me.
Aique observed his face, piercing her lips and raising an eyebrow," Are you sure~" She trailed off, getting closer to Heiro's face. Heiro swallowed deep in his throat and replied with a squeaky,
"Yes...!"
"Heiro- what! No!" I yelped.
"Alright!" Aique clapped her hands and did a little spin in the door way. "I'll be backkk!" She shoved herself into the backroom.
I spun to face Heiro, looked up at his and scowling. His 2.11 block frame just shrugged, and my little 2.6 block self couldn't do much of anything. All I could do really was stand there with my arms crossed just waiting to be thrown into of of Aiques overly elaborate expensive dresses. It was her passion, after all.
"Oo, I forgot to ask. What size?" Aique said from around the corner. Heiro looked at my slightly to lose fitting clothing and had Ruby look at the tag on my collar.
"Umm, lets try a size double AA. She's become an actually twig since the last time I saw her awake." He grinned with her hands on his hips in a sort of know-it-all way. I huffed, blowing bits of my bangs out of my hair. To be honest my hair had grown a decent about since I had been in that coma. It was now long and to my bottom. What can I say? Ender beings have devilish hair growth.
"Got it!" Aique rounded the corner again before appearing with a 3 outfits. She shoved me toward a dressing room, threw the clothing at me, and I ironically fell inside, Aique closing (more like slamming) the door behind me. I sighed, slammed my head on the door, and delt with it.
I stared into the body length mirror and began trying on the outfits. I had really noticed my head still wrapped up in bandages. The bandage was clean, but i didn't bother removing it. It didn't want to see the gaint hole I had tried to put in my skull. I want to forget the whole incident. Move past it. I'm better now, I've realized my mistake. It's just that I wish everyone else could forget. I could see the remembrance and trama in all of their eyes. They dont glow and shine like they use to...
I examined myself in the 4th and final outfit. It was just what a needed. Except... it was missing something.
I opened the door to the dressing room and looked out at the group. "I like it."
Heiro turned away from his conversation with Aique and his jaw dropped and his eyes boggling, his finger pointed at me in disbelieve.
" NO WHAT THE HECK SKYE YOU CANT WEAR THAT-"
I brandished my finger at him accusingly, "YOU SAID ANYTHING I WANT YOU JERKFACE-"
"I DON'T CARE WHAT I SAID BEFORE YOUR 16 AND AS YOUR ADULT BROTHER I SAID NO-"
"WHY YOU LITTLE-"
"HEY!" A man screamed. Me and Heiro stopped mid - bickering to see who had to yell in such a deep and harsh voice. Turns out, it was Aique. She coughed, closed her eyes, and exhaled.
"Come on you two," She wrapped her arms around me and Heiro," I got something that can cover that up really nicely, while still letting her be expressive." She nodged us with her elbow. "Give me a second."
Once again, Aique dissapeared begind the counter and we all stood in silence, listen to some stereotypical elevator music play on quietly in the background. I stood awkwardly, my hands by my side in a skirt and crop top. Heiro was right, this exposed way to much. I hoped Aique had just what I needed.
"Here," She handed me a cloak with cutted out shoulders and a hoodie on the back. "This shoukd be good enough." I turned slowly to face the body length mirror that was hang on the wall outside of the dressing room and slipped it on. It covered just enough without cover to much. It was perfect. It was just the upgraded I needed. A new me to match a soon-to-be new attitude.
"So," Aique began," How do you like it?" I persistently looked at myself. It was definitely new. It just needed something else.
"Anyone have a ponytail?" I watched Scarlet and Ruby search in they're inventory. Star was to busy marking fumbling with some prototype hand gloves she was wearing to pay attention.
Eventually, Scarlet gave me a blue one, and I tied it up. I looked brand new. Like i was almost reborned.
"And," Heiro went up to Scarlet who handed him something from his inventory," Me and Arrow made you these." He passes me what appeared to be a set of enormous metal plates." I looked up at him, confused.
"Are these..?"
"Yes," Arrow finally piped in from the back," They're metal wings."
I gazed at them like a gift from Notch himself. I hadn't had wings in so long. Even though I didn't deserve something so amazing, I couldn't say no. They had spent all ther time on this peice of metal, even though there was a good chance I wouldn't have woken up.
I didn't know what to say. "I dont know what to say."
"Don't say anything, just try them on!" Arrow pushed me to turn toward the mirror. I handed Arrow the wings and he pushed a button, expanding the wings to their full length. They had to be the length of two of me standing ontop of each other!
I was practically boncing with excitement. I hadn't had wings in so long! And even better, these were mechanical! I was shaking my fist up and down excitingly, smiling brightly.
"Okay Skye," Heiro said from my left, holding up one side of the wings," Your going to have to stay very still so we can get these into placelp."
"Yes, he's right," Arrow commented from the other side, his hand placed firmly on the square pad where the wings met," This is going to hurt a lot more if you don't stay still. These have to dig their way into your skin and link up with your nerves-"
"Yeah yeah, just come on already!" I launched myself backward into the wings, and instantly my back burned with the fires from hell. They were right. It did hurt a lot more than planned. It even hurt more than they described. Notch did I regret that.
