Chapter Twenty-One: The Tide Turns
The air crackled with tension, the scene unfolding like a powder keg ready to explode. Harley's fury was palpable, her bat swinging like a whirlwind against Wonder Woman as the Justice League's relentless advance continued. The demigods were faltering-Will was wounded, Ace and Jason were struggling, and Shadow was fighting to keep his emotions in check. Percy's mind raced, trying to think of a way out of this nightmare.
But then, something inside Percy snapped.
The sight of Will bleeding, barely holding on, the constant pressure of being hunted, and the sheer rage at being cornered, again and again, bubbled to the surface. His vision blurred, the sounds of the battle fading to a distant hum as an overwhelming force began to stir within him.
It wasn't just the ocean's call this time-it was something deeper, something primal.
"ENOUGH!" Percy roared, his voice echoing through the hideout, reverberating like a tidal wave crashing against a cliff.
Suddenly, the ground trembled beneath him. The demigods, Harley, and even the Justice League paused for a moment, eyes wide as they felt the shift in the atmosphere. Percy's entire body seemed to radiate energy, raw and untamed, as if the very ocean had been unleashed inside him.
The water in the room-from a spilled glass, condensation on the walls, and moisture in the air-began to swirl around him, forming a violent vortex. His sea-green eyes glowed with an otherworldly light, and the power surging through him intensified with each passing second.
Superman took a step forward, concern etched on his face. "What-"
But before he could finish, the vortex exploded outward. A massive wave of energy, shimmering with hues of blue and green, crashed over everyone in the room. The force was so strong that it sent the Justice League stumbling backward, shields and defenses barely holding against the onslaught.
Percy screamed again, and this time, the sound was laced with something far more profound-grief, rage, and pain from everything they'd endured. It was as if he was releasing all the pent-up emotions he had been forced to bury since the war against Gaea. The rawness of it flooded the room, and the power surged forward once more, even stronger than before.
The wave swept over his friends first.
Jason, Piper, Nico, and Will gasped as the water rushed through them, their wounds knitting together, the exhaustion lifting from their bones. Will, who had been close to unconsciousness moments before, let out a sharp breath as the energy coursed through his body, the gash on his chest sealing shut as though it had never existed. Jason's bruises vanished, and Ace's strength returned in full force.
Even Harley, who had been standing closest to Percy, felt the power wash over her, the weariness from the battle disappearing as her chaotic grin returned. "Well, ain't that somethin'?" she muttered, though her voice was tinged with awe.
But the energy didn't stop at them. It continued, sweeping toward the Justice League, who braced themselves against the wave. Superman raised his arms, his eyes glowing as he tried to resist, while Wonder Woman and Batman stood their ground, determination on their faces.
The force pushed them back, but it wasn't meant to harm-it was meant to protect.
Percy stood at the epicenter of it all, arms outstretched, the power radiating from him like the fury of a hurricane. His scream reached a crescendo, and as it did, the water around him coalesced into towering waves, slamming against the walls and ceiling, cracking the foundation of the building.
"Percy!" Jason shouted over the roar of the water, but Percy couldn't hear him. He was lost in the maelstrom, consumed by the power he didn't understand.
Piper tried to approach him, but the sheer force of the energy kept her at bay. "We have to stop him before he brings the whole place down!"
"I can't get close!" Jason yelled, trying to push forward but failing against the raging current.
Just when it seemed like the entire building would collapse under the weight of Percy's unleashed power, something shifted.
The vortex of energy around Percy began to calm, though his body still glowed with that eerie blue light. The crashing waves slowed, and the overwhelming force started to ebb, as if responding to Percy's growing control over the chaos within him.
With a final scream, Percy slammed his hands down, and the remaining energy dispersed in all directions, the water crashing back to the ground with a loud splash. The room fell silent.
Percy dropped to his knees, panting, his body trembling as the glow in his eyes faded. The power he had just unleashed drained him, leaving him weak and exhausted. But as he knelt there, gasping for breath, he could feel it-his new power, still simmering beneath the surface, waiting.
Jason rushed to his side, gripping his arm. "Percy, are you okay?"
Percy nodded weakly, trying to catch his breath. "I... don't know what happened," he muttered, his voice hoarse.
"Whatever it was," Nico said quietly, "it healed us. All of us."
Will, now fully recovered, looked down at his hands in amazement. "I felt it. The water... it's like it listened to you."
Harley, who had watched the entire display with wide eyes, let out a low whistle. "Well, well, looks like you've got some fancy tricks, kid. Didn't know you had that in ya."
Percy's eyes flickered toward her, then to the Justice League, who were slowly recovering from the shock. Superman straightened, his face unreadable as he studied Percy. Wonder Woman and Batman exchanged a look but said nothing.
"Whatever that was," Batman finally spoke, his voice low and measured, "it changes things."
The Justice League wasn't moving to attack anymore. They seemed to be reassessing the situation, the surprise in their eyes evident.
Percy took a deep breath, still shaky from the outburst. He had no idea where that power had come from or how he had been able to control it, but one thing was clear: he wasn't the same demigod he had been before. None of them were.
"Yeah," Percy said, his voice steadier now. "It does."
Before anyone could do anything, Percy collapsed out of pure exhaustion.
