Chapter XII

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A few hours passed by and Yang was going to surgery to get her new arm. Banshee had already built her new arm, even tested it too. He was a quality gunsmith and doesn't hold back on his products. The others were waiting for her to get done, and that made them worried. The more time that passed by, it made them think something went wrong.
Ruby got up, about to bust into the operating room before Summer grabbed her wrist, stopping her.
"Relax, she's going to be fine. She's a strong woman. Now sit down and take a breath before you pop a blood vessel." Summer told her daughter calmly.
"B-but mom, Yang-" Summer cuts Ruby off before she could continue her sentence.
"Do you believe in your sister?" Summer asked. Ruby nods slowly in reply, looking down at the floor, she was just scared that she might lose her sister after all this time they stood together, side by side.
"Then don't overstress, I'm worried about her too, but I don't let that fear control me." Summer hoped that what she said would calm her down.
Ruby sniffles quietly, "I-I wish Nightmare was here... I miss him and he must be worried sick... am I a bad girlfriend??"
"Ruby, what happened with that Nexus Mind on Remnant was out of your control. You had no idea what would happen. Hell, me and a small fireteam took one out before and it never teleported us anywhere." Summer said, wiping away a tear that rolled down her daughter's cheek.
"I-I love you mom..." Ruby hugged Summer tightly. "Please don't leave us again..."
"I won't... never again..." She hugged back.
Weiss smiles at the two, happy that Ruby had a loving family. Deep down though, she was sad that she didn't have that relationship with her parents, or even brother for that matter. At least she was on good terms with Winter.
Blake wished that she had left on better terms with her parents. Joining the White Fang was the biggest mistake of her life. But rather than let it control her, she just cast those thoughts off. But Summer could see by the look on her face that she still had questions.
"Are you okay Blake?" Summer asked.
"Yeah, I'm okay. I still have questions, about you, about this place, about this planet. I know Nightmare was born here, but that's about it." Blake's curiosity made her ears twitch a bit.
"Well, ask away." Summer was all ears.
"Your powers, what are they? They aren't a semblance. You using fire and lighting abilities during our fighting made it clear it's something else entirely." Blake asked.
"You're right about that. Us Guardians call it the Light. We're able to use it as a weapon to defend our people. And it comes from that big white ball in the sky. The Traveler. Before it went into its sleep, it made the Ghosts. And they are the reason Guardians come back to life." Summer explained as best she could.
Ruby sniffles, "She's a super mom, duh!"
Blake giggles, she thought that was rather cute.
Banshee came out of the operating room, "I may not be a doctor, but I made sure that a weapon I created was attached properly without going off."
"How is she?" Summer asked. Ruby was right about to run off to see her once again but Summer holds her.
"She'll wake up in a few minutes. The doctors will prescribe her pain meds because it will feel a little sore for a while, but other than that, she's good to go home with you all I'm assuming." Banshee said.
Summer released her daughter, who then rushed into the room to see her precious big sister. Everyone else followed along, all worried about the blonde.
Yang was just now starting to wake up. She had fought the anesthesia rather quickly and she opened her eyes, "Mmm... hey guys..."
"Yang! I was so worried about you!" She hugged her sister tightly.
"Easy kid..." Banshee told her. His voice was so much more computerized than his human peers.
"She's alright, Banshee. She's just worried." Summer stated.
Yang hugged back gently, smiling, "I'll be okay sis. Soon, we can go home..."
"D-do you think the others are waiting for us, sis?" Ruby asks in a whisper.
"I'm sure they are..." She reassured her.
"I miss them so much... I hope they're not mad as us to disappearing like that." She looks down.
"Ruby, they won't be mad. They'll be worried more than ever, but they won't be mad." Yang always knew how to comfort her little sister.
"I wanna go home and see everyone again..."
"I know you do..." Yang said.
"And I believe I've found a solution." They heard Saladin speak while he was standing in the doorway.
"What do you mean?" Summer asked.
Saladin walked in and he had his Ghost pull up a map of the galaxy, labeling planets that were colonized, and they were impressed with how much humanity here expanded. There were dozens of colonies, starting at Reach in the inner rim, all the way to the outer rim at Harvest.
"I've been looking at these star charts for a while, and there is is the one area in the mid rim that went unexplored. Probably due to the dangerous traveling conditions." Saladin was pointing out the different paths they could take.
"Space travel that long might take us years! How will we ever get back home?" Weiss asked, worried.
"Weiss, it's okay. My ship can make it from here to Saturn within 45 seconds. The last planet we went to only took us about 20." Summer said.
"R-right... sorry, I'm still new to this whole space travel stuff, it's all so alien to me." She apologized.
"The benefit of space travel is that it's really pretty." Summer rubbed her shoulder to comfort her.
She smiles a little, "Yeah, I guess you're right."
"If that's the case, I'll get dressed and then we can go." Yang said.
"I'll wait by the ship." Blake started to leave.
"The elevator will take you straight up to the hangar." Summer told her before she left.
"Got it!" She heard her call as she left.
Some minutes passed by and everyone was in the hangar by Summer's ship. Saladin gave her the potential coordinates to Remnant. They helped Nightmare get to Remnant, but the Vanguard's information wasn't complete so there was an amount of guesswork involved. They never shared this with the UNSC because of fear that they will try to occupy the whole planet without the Kingdom's consent.
Before they left, Cayde ran to the hangar, "Guardian, wait!"
"What is it?" Summer got one of her bags in before she turned around.
"You're not leaving for good are you? I need someone to laugh at my bad jokes." He said.
"Oh please, I know you're here to beg for your money back after all those bets you lost against me." Summer poked his chest.
"I- okay yes I do." He tried to deny it.
"He doesn't win very many bets does he?" Yang asked with a smirk.
"No. No he does not. Speaking of which, you still owe me. So pay up." She held out her hand.
Cayde mumbled and grumbled as he got out a bag of Glimmer, which was about 500 in total, but in classic Cayde fashion, he tried to make an excuse to keep it, "Wait, it might not be worth anything on your world."
"Trust me, cubes of light will be worth more than this amount, and this will get me a lot of Lien." Summer smirked as she took the bag from him and gave it to Yang.
"Well, for what it's worth, I'm gonna miss you. You're the best Guardian I've ever had the privilege of teaching." The moment turned serious when Cayde said that. Summer hugged him gently.
"I'll come back to see you all soon, don't worry. But my family comes first." She said, looking back at Yang and Ruby.
"You take care of yourself. And Ruby?" Cayde said.
"Yes, Cayde?" She looked at him from the ship.
"Be good for your mom. I don't think you want her to ground you given her powers." He joked.
"Don't worry, because I have the best mom in the world." She hugged her from behind, and Ruby missed doing that.
They said their goodbyes and they took off from the Tower. Before they got a chance to go into orbit, they were contacted by Lord Saladin.
"Summer, meet me at the Iron Temple before you go. There is something I must give to you." He told her.
"Uh, yeah sure, I'll see you there." Summer replied, changing her heading as they took off to the Iron Temple.
When they entered the massive chamber, the three Iron Lords they rescued stood next to Saladin, who at the center was standing in front of a pedestal.
"May I ask why we're here?" Summer inquired.
"You're here because we wanted to reward you for your actions. You've given my family back to me, Summer, and for that I couldn't be more grateful. You've shown great courage, all of you did, even when the odds were against you. You've earned this." Saladin turned around and grabbed a sword off the pedestal.
Summer was a little nervous for this, but she thought this was just for a sword. But it was something, much, much more.
"There are many like this in our armory, but this one is new. Approach." Saladin said, and Summer obeyed by going up to her, "You are the first of a new generation. With this blade, you shall be named Iron Lord." He gave the blade to Summer. She was in awe, she didn't have any words for a few seconds.
"T-thank you so much! It's an honor, it truly is. Does it have a name?" Summer asked with excitement.
"That will be up to you, young wolf." Saladin replied.
"Well, thanks for the tip. I'll call it Young Wolf's Howl." Summer loved her new gift if she named it that quickly.
Team RWBY cheered her on. Ruby was the most proud of her mom. It truly was a special moment in their lives. Now, they all get to go home...
