Chapter XI
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For Yang, it felt like darkness. There was nothing to look at, nothing to hear, nothing to feel. To her it felt like she was trapped in her own body.
"Hello? Is anyone there?" Yang was getting paranoid, she didn't know what was happening. She looked down at her hands, she knows she's there, but why was everything darkness? Her physical body must be unconscious. Moments of silence passed by until she heard a voice.
"Hang in there kiddo, mama Summer's got you... just hang in there..." It was Summer, "Cayde, we need doctors, now!"
"Holy shit! Okay, Ghost, signal the med bay, tell them we got incoming!" Yang didn't know this Cayde person, but from what she could make out he was probably in his 30's perhaps.
The sounds she was hearing faded out again. It wouldn't be until a few hours later she woke, feeling woozy, but she could hear that her step mom was being scolded at by... a blue man? She began to wonder if she was on drugs.
"I understand your mission was to stop this, 'SIVA' from spreading, but bringing civilians into an active combat zone can't go unignored, Summer!" The man shouted at her.
"With all due respect, you haven't seen them in action. They're capable warriors-" Summer was cut off.
"Your step daughter lost an arm! She could've lost her life! Her only life! She isn't like us... she can't come back from the grave... I don't understand why Saladin would even let them go with you on such a dangerous mission. Given the fact that you brought back 3 Guardians who claim to be Iron Lords." The blue man said.
"Let me be clear Zavala. All I did was ask for their help. They could have chose not to, but they did help regardless. So, I would show my young wolf some respect. Oh, and another thing. These 3 ARE Iron Lords, and I bet you remember how dangerous I was back in our Crucible days..." Saladin inched closer to this, Zavala character. Saladin was a bit taller than Zavala, giving him the intimidation factor, and Saladin was ready to beat the ever living shit out of him.
"I have to report this to the Speaker..." Zavala said as he left the room.
The room was filled with awkward silence, until Cayde broke the ice.
"Man, I thought I was the childish one around here. But you and Zavala being at each other's throats is like 2 kids arguing over the last piece of birthday cake." He said.
"Cayde, now isn't the time." Ikora retorted.
"It's true, you two work well together, but this incident is just driving you apart." Cayde said, looking at the Iron Lord.
"You are right. We function better as allies, and I understand he plays by the rules. But he has to understand that some rules have to be broken. If I'm being honest, he's a little too, what's the phrase, 'by the book'? Summer, I'm sorry. This... wasn't supposed to happen. And it will be difficult to restore what is lost." Saladin felt responsible for what happened to Yang.
Yang got up out of bed, almost falling over, "I wanted to be a thrill seeker... and this is the price I paid for it... but there is no chance in hell I'm going to let that stop me."
Summer was proud of her, she still won't let the loss of an arm keep her down. (Unlike in volume 4...)
"Wait, where is my other gauntlet?" Yang couldn't find it anywhere.
"Yeah, about that, I asked Banshee to see if he could make an arm for you that has that weapon built into it." Cayde always had a solution to help people blow something up.
"Who's Banshee?" Blake asked.
"He's our resident gunsmith. This isn't the first time he's done special projects like this you know." Cayde explained.
"As much as I would like to continue this topic, I think it is time to figure out what that flash was before the feed cut." Saladin said.
Summer knew all too well of what this was, she had no other choice than break the news to her daughter...
"Ruby, you know how many stories and fairy tales are told on Remnant. The one I'm about to tell you is true. A very, very long time ago, there was a group of people that had silver eyes, and it is said that the one thing on the world that is basically fear incarnate, was the Grimm. They were afraid of these warriors. Hell, it got to the point where it was said that a single look from these fighters could kill one." She was a bit rusty at storytelling, but Ruby didn't mind.
"Mom, this is just... a lot to take in..." Ruby felt like her whole world got turned upside down, even though the most surprising thing in her life was visitors from another galaxy and a clone army that saved Beacon.
"Okay, maybe I exaggerated that last part. A single look won't kill a Grimm. But regardless, it's true, love..." Summer said calmly, rubbing her shoulder.
"Well... as much as I want to know more about this, I would just like to ask: How the hell do you plan on going back to Remnant?" Cayde asked.
Summer put her head in her hands, "Shit, I didn't even think about that..."
"Give me a few hours to comb through the UNSC's star charts, as well as a few documents on constellations. You'll have your answer." Saladin wanted to do something right that won't get them hurt.
Yang grabbed her arm, groaning in pain, "I-is there any pain meds?"
Summer helped her lay down and she administered the pain medication. Yang felt better, but it made her really drowsy. She fell back asleep, feeling no pain.
This was hell for the team that took part in this. They took part in a fight that was not of their world. This will be a story to tell to others one day. Team RWBY, the first Huntress team to ever visit planet Earth, to take part in a quest that would've have them give their lives. But they came out on top despite the hardships.
This is what it means to be a Huntsman or Huntress. To protect those that couldn't protect themselves. Let's just hope they make it home to tell those stories...
-=Author's note=-
Wow, I lost track of how many months passed by, hehe, sorry about that. Hopefully I can get more parts out there. In any case, I hope you all enjoy.
