Chapter VIII

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-=1 hour after the mission to Mars at the Iron Temple=-
Ashla was carrying Weiss inside, she had given her an anesthetic to ease her pain on the way there, but the side effects caused her to fall asleep peacefully, with no pain. Saladin saw the wounded girl and his eyes widened, coming over to help if need be.
"What happened out there??" He asked, worried about her.
"A Psion got a shot on her while her shields were down. She's a fighter though, she got back up and into the fight like nothing happened. That was until the adrenaline wore off did the pain hit her like a train." Ashla told him calmly.
Shiro came up to her, "Lay her down over here, I have medical training, I'll get her fixed up."
She nodded and laid her down on a thick memory foam mat and propped her head on the pillow.
"This wasn't supposed to happen... I shouldn't have sent you all in with Ashla, otherwise she wouldn't have gotten hurt. This is on me..." Saladin looked away, he blamed himself for what happened to Weiss.
"No, this wasn't on you. The truth is that we wanted to help, we may not be on Remnant anymore but there are still people to protect here. That is what we do as Huntresses, we can protect those who can't protect themselves. We can fight until the day we die, because that is what we do." Those are wise words from such a young leader. Ruby knew what to say and when to say it.
Ashla looked away, those words, the way she said them, it sounded familiar to her. Maybe some sleep would help take her mind off of it. She went outside in the cold night and climbed back up to her little spot near the top of Felwinter Peak. She got the fire going and just stared into it for a couple of hours before lying down in the snow and falling asleep, the fire, her armor's padding would keep her warm through the night.
-=Before the next morning=-
The dream she had last time came back, but this time she could make out more of the words this time. Words like, 'Please don't do this' and 'Don't go, we still need you.'
She woke up gasping from this dream, it was more like a recurring nightmare. She hopped down to the temple plaza and walked inside with haste. Shiro was tending to Weiss and Saladin was looking over a map of the Plaguelands.
"Lord Saladin, I was wondering if I could take a leave of absence for a few hours. There's something I need do." She said.
"May I ask why?" He turned to her.
"I'm having these recurring nightmares, but they feel so real... I need Ikora's help to figure it all out." She explains to him.
"Very well, but be back within two hours. We still have a lot to go over. Tyra is still going over the information you collected from the Clovis Bray lab." Saladin said.
"Of course, sir." She says walking away.
She went outside again. Her ship landed outside and she teleported herself aboard, heading for the Tower next. She needed to know what these nightmares meant. It was chipping away her sanity, it drove her nuts trying to figure it out on her own. She needed answers, and she needed them now.
-=10 minutes later=-
Her ship floated near the Tower plaza and immediately flew into the hangar on its own. On the ground in front of her there were words written in Latin, 'ATRIVM PROPVGNATORVM' when translated in English, reads 'Court of Champions'. The first words she saw when she arrived at the Tower when she was revived.
Ikora would be in the Hall of Guardians where she helped command the Vanguard. The first place she would check to find her. Her abilities could help her see what she was dreaming about for the past couple of nights. Warlocks are more on the magical side of Guardians. Some see them as witches, obsessed with their own power.
Ashla saw her at a big table looking through books and checking a map.
"Commander Ikora?" She said walking up to her.
"Ashla, it's good to see you again." She closed her book and smiled.
"I was wondering if you could help me with something." She looked down.
"Of course, what is it?" She asked.
"I've been having these weird dreams, recurring actually. Ever since these girls randomly showed up, they started..." Ashla said.
"Come with me." Ikora said leaving the room.
Ashla followed her to a room used specifically by Warlocks. There were candles lit across the room and a small bed in the middle of it.
"This room is used mainly for healing, but I bet I can help with your dream problem. However, I believe that these aren't dreams you're having, since these girls showed up, that's when you started having them right?" Ikora asked.
"Y-yes." Ashla replied.
"You must be seeing fragments of your past life. You will be the first Guardian to have their memory restored." Ikora said.
Ashla didn't know what to think, she couldn't possibly believe that she would be the one to have their memory restored. Her heart was pounding at the thought, she made up her mind, "Let's do it."
"Take off your helmet and lie down right here." Ikora got the table ready, and Ashla took her helmet off and lied down on the table, "Close your eyes and clear your mind. Depending on what happened in your past life, this could be a painful experience."
"I understand." Ashla replied, closing her eyes.
Ikora put her hands on her head and started using her energy to access her mind, to find the memories that were buried in her subconscious. Ashla began to experience more of these flashes, they were so much more clear now, all the happiness, the pain, the joy, the sorrow all came rushing like water flowing through a river. The things she saw was kind of painful to see, she also saw things that brought her great joy, and her own voice as well, hearing things like 'It's a girl'. She heard her asking herself, 'Why would you do this I thought we were friends!'. It was too painful to bear and Commander Zavala and Cayde heard screams from the next room, they rushed in to see Ashla moving erratically.
"Ikora! What is going on her-" Before Zavala could finish his sentence Ikora cut him off.
"Will you two quit staring and hold her down for God sake?!" She was having trouble keeping Ashla still.
Cayde held her right arm and Zavala held her left down on the table. This didn't stop, it was too painful to watch. And when it did, her eyes shot open and looked around to see her commanders holding her down.
"Hey, hey, Ashla, it's okay, calm down." Cayde tried to comfort her after what she just saw.
"Cayde... it's you..." She stopped struggling and they let her go.
"Ashla, what did you see?" Ikora asked.
"Everything, my identity, where I came from... the girls..." She knew who they were now, "Thank you so much, I need to go now."
"Safe travels Ashla. Remember, the Light is always with you." Ikora told her.
She went out to the plaza and her ship picked her up and she sped back to the Iron Temple where the rest were. She kept repeating one name to herself, "Ruby..." The thought brought tears to her eyes.
-=10 minutes later=-
Ruby, Blake and Yang were near the fire pit with Saladin and Shiro showing a hologram of the Plaguelands. Weiss was sitting near by, trying to rest up as much as she can, but she could still here.
"Ahh, Ashla, just in time. We're planning the final assault on the Fallen Stronghold so listen carefully." Saladin said.
"Alright, the Fallen have used SIVA to make it act as a power line from this old oil tanker. They're using its reactor as a power source. If you switch the positive charges with the negative ones, you can overload the Fallen's control over it, but only temporarily. When the fortress is open, you'll go down into the caves, infiltrate the Rasputin bunkers the Fallen have control of, and make your way to the SIVA replication chamber. That will stop the production of SIVA, and cut off their supply of it." Shiro explained the whole plan. It seemed like a suicide mission, they may not come back from this.
"When are we supposed to hit it?" Ruby asked.
"Soon, otherwise the Devil Splicers will only grow stronger. Which means that Weiss will have to sit this one out." Saladin replied.
Weiss wasn't happy about this at all, "What?! I'm apart of this team! You can't just tell me to sit it out!"
"Weiss, you're still hurt. You need to rest and recover, there's no point going into battle wounded." Shiro told her calmly.
Thankfully during her time at Beacon she has learned how to listen to reason.
"Um, Lord Saladin, can I say something?" Ashla asked.
"Of course." He replied.
She walked up to Ruby and Yang, "There's something I need to tell the both of you." She was shaking, she didn't want to constantly be shaking, but she slowly slid her hood off and took off her helmet, dropping it on the floor.
Ruby and Yang gasped, realizing who it was. The poor Guardian was in tears, she looked up and smiled at them, "I missed you girls so much..."
It was Summer Rose behind that helmet, the mother of Ruby. Her young daughter burst into tears and hugged her tightly, not wanting to let go.
Blake and Weiss were in disbelief, Saladin and Shiro were just confused.
"Ashla, please explain what is going on. Are you a parent of hers?" Saladin asked.
"Yes, I am. My name isn't Ashla. My real name is Summer Rose, and I am Huntress from Remnant, and mother of these two wonderful girls, Ruby, and Yang." She kept both of them in a tight embrace, holding her family close.
