Picking up the pieces.

It had taken some time to prepare for this great undertaking. First he had to create more clones (he wasn't sure how to think of them) to bury his fellow scientists, he may not have gotten along well with all of them but it was the least he could do. That task done he set about aiding as many of his people as he could. As the First Ones empire had collapsed shipments from off world had become increasingly infrequent until finally stopping all-together. This had affected his home in a variety of ways. The lack o raw materials as well as both consumer & luxury goods had severely damaged the economy. The infrastructure that had been built over their centuries long occupation had gradually broken down hampering the planetary governments ability to properly distribute the resources they had left. As time had gone on the government effectively lost control of large swathes of the planet.

When the rebellion that had broken out on so many worlds finally reached their world, the planetary government told the First Ones that if the intended to keep their people as citizens of the empire, they needed assistance ending the burgeoning resistance. The First Ones responded in a way the planets leaders couldn't have predicted. Determined to stamp out this newest addition to the growing rebellion before it could become a factor, The First One commander assigned to lead the reinforcements deployed the most powerful magic based weapons at their disposal against even the lightest levels of resistance. This ended the growing insurgency quickly but at the cost of untold suffering of the planets populace. It was this loss of life, as well as the damage to the planets environment, that had made the assembling of the scientists necessary.

It was with an almost palpable sense of relief that his planets leaders agreed to let him and his copies(?) handle the reconstruction efforts. Slowly bu surely the planets communication, transportation and other crucial infrastructure were brought back into working order and the scattered population was once again brought under a single authority. Most just seemed happy to see someone doing something after so long being left to fend for themselves. He did his best to assure those he spoke too that this was just the beginning, that this was the start of a new era of peace & order. He truly wished to bring this about but secretly doubted it could be done. As he saw the relief and joy on their faces, and the fervor with which they pledged themselves to that vision, did a great amount to remove those doubts.

After several years the planet could once again be said to be in a state of order. People in even the most remote sections of the planet could count on regular supply shipments from the revitalized planetary government which he had been place in full command of. The communications array had been repaired to the point that not only was across planet coordination possible but they could resume sending messages to nearby planets. They were curious to know how the rest of the empire had fared while they had been rebuilding.

The news was as dire as could be. Message after message made clear that the neighboring worlds had been hit just as, if not more severely then their own. Planets ravaged, entire populations missing, whole sectors claimed by warlords looking to pick the bones of the fallen empire. When these reports became known to the general populace his people had made clear they felt an obligation to extend a helping hand. After careful deliberation, it was decided they would send a relief mission to the nearest planet in the sector and if that went well more would be considered.

And so it came to be that he and his clones had arrived on their closest neighbor. Almost immediately he was faced with all to familiar scene of destruction, suffering & hopelessness. As he set the clones to work distributing supplies he was approached by a number of the planets locals, each wearing the same look of tired resignation his own people had worn not to long ago. He told them the same as he had told his own citizens, that their struggle were over, that help had come at last, that peace & order would be restored. One, an elderly female, had actually pulled him into an embrace thanking his profusely for the good works he & his "brothers" were doing.

Brothers? He quite liked the sound of that.
