Hermione POV
We walked into Sylvia's cave, and by we I mean Annabeth, Percy, Nico, Harry, and me. Mrs. O' Leary shadow traveled us. We had our weapons and wands ready.
We walked until we reached part in which the cave got lighter. Annabeth motioned for us to stop.
She knelt to the ground and examined the sandy ground which so happened to be pitch black.
"Oh gods," Annabeth murmured as she examined it. She looked up at us with wide eyes.
"Everyone," she whispered, "This isn't sand. These are chips of black glass. Like in Tartarus. This cave leads straight to Tartarus."
My mind processed that information. "So you're saying that if Leila had kept running while she was here-"
"She would've fallen in," Harry finished for me.
Nico looked at the black glass in fear. "So they might have thrown Will in already." His voice was quivering.
"No," Annabeth and I said in unison. "Sylvia wants to use Will as bait to get someone," I explained.
Nico did look a little relieved.
We walked ahead in the cave, occasionally glancing at the ground. I wondered how scared Percy and Annabeth and Nico would be. Tartarus had left them scarred. And for Nico, he'd trudged through there alone and he was younger than any of us, physically and mentally. He had only been fourteen. He would know that Will wouldn't stand a chance, since he hadn't even had a weapon when he was abducted.
I shook those thoughts out of my head. We had a task.
Suddenly, we came across two ways. They were both locked. They were both made of wood.
I thought of a safe way to do find out which way to go. I came across an idea.
"Stand back," I told everyone. But Annabeth had her wand out. She muttered, "Incendio," and fire shot out of the wand and onto one of the doors. The door burned down and it revealed a huge pit. I did the same to the other door, and it burned away to reveal a path like the one we had been following.
Still suspicious, I threw a rock at the one with the path. The image of the path shimmered and the rock fell below. I did the same for the pit and it hit the middle of the pit and floated were there should have been nothing.
"Invisible floors," Percy said. "Cool."
We walked on the pit carefully and thankfully, we all made it across.
We walked ahead. Eventually, we made it to another door, this time made of steel. It was locked, unfortunately.
This time, Harry stepped forward. He touched the tip of his wand to the lock and whispered, "Alohamora."
The lock clicked and the door swung open a little. A female voice came through, "Well, I see you have come for the useless boy."
This got Nico mad. He charged in through the door. We had to charge after him with no choice.
We burst into the "throne room". Sylvia was sitting in a chair, twirling her hair. Will Solace was sitting in a chair, bound up next to the throne. His eyes were flickering between blue and gold, which I found weird.
Sylvia stood up. She had a black cloak on a purple dress. The cloak was embroidered with silver skulls. Go figure.
Sylvia and Nico considered each other. Sylvia had opened her mouth, but Nico spoke first.
"So you are my sister," he stated.
Sylvia's lip curled, as if she was disgusted by Nico. "Son of Hades," she said, "It's a pleasure to-"
"Oh, shut up," Nico interrupted her, "Save the yammering for when you're begging for mercy."
Sylvia turned red and Percy snickered under his breath.
The daughter of Pluto studied our group. "Go ahead. Free Will Solace. I swear on the River Styx that freeing him won't drop him into Tartarus or blow him up or anything like that."
Nico immediately ran to free him. Will's eyes were fully gold now. Nico cut off his bonds, but Will remained sitting there.
"Will?" Nico asked. "What-"
The son of Apollo's eyes turned blue again and he got out, "You shouldn't have come." And his eyes turned gold again.
"Poor things," Sylvia mock-sympathized, "I have called on possessing spirits. He should have a bow and quiver any second now."
I started to panic. We won't be able to hurt him, but he wouldn't have any hesitation.
A bow and quiver grew on his back and in his hand. He stood up, and everyone backed away. Then, with his free hand he reached into his eye and . . . took out a gold colored contact lense.
"Hey, what's up?" he asked casually. Sylvia seemed to process what had happened, because she screamed, "No! No! I wanted to sacrifice him so I could bring Peeta back to life and marry him! No!"
Dunno what that was about. But we all joined hands and Nico shadow traveled us back to camp.
