Libraries Are For Whispers, Secrets Are too

It isn't long until they reach the second town, they raided a couple stores for supplies but they don't find anything. That is until they reach a convenience store on the corner of two streets. The signs were so faded at this point that Zeppelin couldn't read them, he'd probably find that in a lot of towns and cities. It was bad in a way that you couldn't remember street names, it's what Zeppelin relied on for a long time. He wonders what caused the signs to fade this early into the apocalypse. It's only been five or six years, Zeppelin lost track, he didn't keep track anymore. It was something to keep an eye on. He glanced over at Strike to find him keeping an eye on him again. What was his deal? Strike has been a lot more interested in him now that they left the camp. Either he was doing something right, or something very wrong. They walked to the store, however Strike called the group to a stop. He knelled down in front of the door and scraped his finger along where the door frame met the pavement staircase. He brought it up and took a good look at it, "Ash." Was all that he said before standing up. Gidget looked disturbed "There's no fire damage, how could there be ash." it looked like Gidget really wanted answers. Zeppelin all of a sudden got a disturbing thought, "What if it's human." Chewy didn't miss a beat to throw his question out there. "Zeppelin, you've really been the only one who's traveled to small towns without settlements, besides Strike. Have any of you seen anything besides vampires?" He had to give Chewy credit, it was a good question. He didn't have to think until he remembered one encounter with a deviated fox, he didn't think much of it until now. Strike seemed to be thinking too. "Mutant fox." They both said at the same time, afterwards looking to each other. The wheels in Gidget's head were turning, "How would a fox mutate?" Strike seemed to be annoyed, it was kind of annoying. Zeppelin just wanted to get out of here. Strike stood up and Zeppelin quietly broke open the door, he sighed and looked back at Strike and the rest. "If vampires came from whatever happened all that time ago, then mutant foxes sure as hell can. I doubt that this was a fox." He gestures to the ash. "But let's get out of here before we find out." He walked into the store, Strike following, then Gidget, then Chewy watching their back. Zeppelin slowly walked around the store, making quiet noises and waiting for something to jump out, he didn't want any surprises. He noticed Strike watching him once again but chose to ignore it. Once they deemed it clear they started filling up their bags with whatever they could find. The store surprisingly had bottled water, Zeppelin grabbed as much as he could carry without it slowing him down. He heard Chewy convincing Gidget that he couldn't grab a jug of water because it would slow them down too much. Once Chewy walked away Zeppelin walked over "Hey man, you holding up okay?" Gidget sighed and facepalmed, he seemed tired of travelling. Surprisingly Zeppelin wasn't sorry for him. Zeppelin noticed Strike heading upstairs but chose not to give him back up, Chewy was headed up with him anyways. Gidget spoke after a minute "How shitty can shitty get." Zeppelin didn't miss a beat as he replied "Pretty shit." Gidget looked at the shelf in front of him "Well that's how I'm doing." He stood up. Zeppelin stood up as well. Him and Gidget talked for a bit about computers. The other guys headed downstairs, Strike pretty pissed. "Nothing, except a couple gay guys who committed a suicide pact just as the apocalypse started." Chewy was more sad then pissed, it must have been disturbing. Gidget seemed pretty sad too. Zeppelin wasn't going to lose any sleep though, he didn't know them and in the apocalypse people die, too bad so sad. Zeppelin looks around the store, "Let's go, we spent too long in here already." They headed out the door.

The guys walked down the streets, they hoped to head over to the next town before nightfall. A vampire patrol was headed down the street as well, Zeppelin saw them approaching from behind. Strike muttered under his breathe loud enough for the others to hear, "Damn vamps, play it cool, only kill of you need to." Just then they yelled from behind the group "Hey! are you registered to be out here?"

Before Strike could answer Zeppelin did "Actually yes, I'm registered." Once the vampires got a look at him they instantly apologized, that was definitely weird to the guys, though Zeppelin oddly enough thought nothing of it. Once the patrol was out of sight they hit the road again, on the way to the next town. Zeppelin knew for a fact that he'd be questioned later for this, though he didn't care at the moment. All he cared about was making it to the next town on time. Luckily they didn't run into anymore trouble. They reached the next town without trouble and chose to squat in an old library. Once they got there Chewy and Gidget set up camp, Zeppelin walked off and over towards the movie section.

Switch P.O.Vs

As Strike stormed off after Zeppelin, Gidget couldn't help but think of the encounter earlier. He wasn't even mad, he was just curious, but it was no business of his. He looked up and said these words to Chewy. Chewy sighed and continued to play with the stick in front of him. "I know man, the curiosity just bites." Gidget sighed and got to work helping with the fire. "I know man, you have no idea how much I know." The guys returned back to the main area a few minutes later, though Strike stormed passed them and out the door. Zeppelin sat down by them, his aura was warning enough to Gidget to not even mention it, let alone ask. But the question was through and through his mind, 'What the fresh fuck was going on?'
