Chapter 9
Desmond's POV
We get back to the office and are greeted by Lucy.
"So, you heard about the Animus?" she asks, cringing a bit.
"Yeah. How did it jinx again!?" I demand.
"Shaun went in to try and fix it internally, but it just ended up bringing Malik and Leonardo back," she replies.
We walk past Lucy and into the living room, where Malik is sitting on the couch.
"Hello," he says.
"Hello Malik," Altaïr replies.
"Alright, I think we should make some introductions," I say, preventing an awkward silence. "Malik, this is Edward, Connor and Ezio. I'm Desmond."
"Hello. I'm Malik."
"And you already know Altaïr," I say.
"More than I would like to," he says, glaring at Altaïr.
Altaïr smirks and walks into the kitchen. Connor and Edward sit on the couch beside Malik and Ezio and Leonardo start catching up on everything Ezio had missed. I follow Altaïr into the kitchen.
"What is this machine called?" Altaïr asks, opening the fridge door.
"A fridge. It keeps food cold," I reply.
"Why would you need that?"
"To store extra food without it going bad."
"Oh. In my time, we only ever had enough for one meal at a time."
"Are you trying to distract yourself, Altaïr?" I ask. "Be honest."
"No... I just... don't really want to be in a confrontation with Malik," he replies.
"Why?"
"Because I accidentally killed his brother and I'm kind of the reason he only has one arm," Altaïr says.
"Ah. Well, you two are going to have to get along if you're going to live together in the same house for a while," I say.
"Fine. We'll try."
"Good."
I walk out of the kitchen and up to Malik. He looks up at me and I take a deep breath.
"If you and Altaïr are going to live in the same house, you're going to have to try to get along," I say.
"But he's such a novice..." Malik groans.
"Please just try."
"Fine."
This is going to be a piece of work.
