The Next Prophecy

A Note: Ok, I know its been 6 months since I've updated. I also know that at the end of June I said I'd update in two weeks and its been more than 4 (that one I couldn't help, my computer stopped working). So here's a shiny new update and please forgive me. Also on another note: I know some of the things I wrote a couple years ago contradict books that came out later. Once I've finished the 10th book (I'm waiting until then so I know what for sure needs to be fixed), I might go back and try to edit names and plot contradictions. So sorry about that. Ok, now for what you came here for.

Coral's POV

It was hours before anyone found them. In the end it was Glory, yelling their names frantically until she heard them yelling back. She peered down into the dark, seen by the scales she had turned bright yellow as a beacon to look for them.

"WHERE in the 3 MOONS have you BEEN?!" She shrieked.

"Ah... Down here," she said meekly even though she knew it wasn't their fault. "Ripcurrent sprained his wing. And um, Queen Glory? I think you need to see this. Coral heard the flutter of wings in the darkness and soon appeared the Queen, looking relieved but also angry, trying to hide the few red streaks that had appeared on her scales.

"We've been looking for you for hours," said Glory sternly. Coral and Ripcurrent both opened their mouths indignantly, but Glory held out one talon to shush them. "But I understand. Now what is all this?" she said, waving her talon to indicate the huge cavern around her.

"It's prophecies," Coral said excitedly. "Arranged, I think by the date they'll come true." Glory began to pace around, unrolling  scrolls and letting them curl shut.

"But where could they have come from?" she asked as she read, keeping her eyes down.

"Must be the Nightwings. The ones that lived way way back, before they lost their powers. I don't know why they're here but... someone must have recorded them. Some of these date years into the future, not to come true for centuries. But maybe we'll never know how they got here. We can read them, and that's what matters," Glory began to read out loud.

"In the Kingdom of Flame, from far on high

The good queen's wrath is kindled in the sky

When the current of the sea has come of age

Then he shall release her from an inescapable cage

3 other companions shall guide his way

The star, the reef, and the breaker of days

And one little dragonet, lost and forlorn

Sits alone and awaits the final storm."

Silence. "That sounds ominous," Ripcurrent said. Coral felt the same way. There was something about it that didn't sit right with her, like some connection that didn't quite click. Glory eyed the scroll suspiciously, snapped it shut, and kept walking. She unrolled the next scroll and stopped dead in her tracks.

"This... this was our prophecy. How is that possible, it was never real. But it's slated to come true right when it did, down to the day. How..."

She was interrupted as a Nightwing stepped out of the shadows. His scales looked as if they had once been sleek and shiny, but now appeared degraded and chipped. His talons clicked on the floor nervously. There was something about his eyes, as if some essential thing had snapped years ago, leaving him broken and insane. He opened his mouth to speak in a steady voice that didn't match his ragged appearance:

"Because I can see eveything. Past, present, and future. I made the Nightwings who they were, who they are. I was the first, and I will be the last. I know everything that will come to pass, as I knew your alleged false prophecy. But it wasn't false. I planted the seed in Morrowseer's head. And that prophecy you read?" He looked directly at Ripcurrent.

"That's for you."
