"When I was ten, I wanted to help the region fight a Legendary War with Sinnoh. I was in Johto at that time, trying to capture Suicune. It was hard, though.
"So I signed up for the army, and with a little Illusion from my Zoroark, I tricked them into thinking that I was eighteen. I fought hard alongside Raikou and Entei. We were just waiting for Suicune to arrive to assist us.
"I had a break one day. I had a broken arm and bandages on my forehead, but I was in one of the best conditions of the army. I was just walking around the country near a pond, contemplating what to do about Suicune, when my head started pulsing.
"I heard the noise of paws on the water. It sounded like a pattering, with a slight splash. I turned around with a massive headache. I saw the one and only Johto Legendary that could save us all.
"Suicune.
"Its eyes glowed red for a split second. Then I felt my bones grinding and moving. I didn't know it at the time, but the extreme pain was turning me into a Pokémon that the army was fighting.
"A Sinnoh Pokémon. I was becoming a Lucario. I had heard of the people who were able to transform, but all I could do was stay as a Lucario.
"When I didn't realize that I was a Sinnoh Pokémon, I went back to the camp. They saw me and gasped, then summoned Entei! They wanted to sic Entei on me, and I was so confused the whole time!
"Suicune jumped in front of me to protect me. They realized that I was not their enemy.
"After a lot of explaining, I was told to leave the army. I was way too young. I asked Suicune in Pokémon speak if there was a way to make me someone who transforms.
"It said no...
"I was a Lucario forever. My real name is Crystal."
"What?!" I said. "You mean the famous Capturer?!"
Fionna-- I mean, Crystal-- smiled sheepishly. "But I prefer Fionna. It makes me less noticeable, and I always wanted to be named Fionna."
"That's a cool story," I commented.
Brandon gave me a warning glance. From the look in his eyes, I could tell that "cool" was not the word to describe Crystal's story.
"Sorry! I meant... Uhm... An interesting story!" I stammered.
Brandon slapped his forehead. "And I thought you were smart," he said with a shrug.
"Hey, what's that supposed to mean?!" I demanded.
"It's fine," Crystal said, smiling weakly. "Just train. You don't want to end up like me, do you?"
"Of course I do! You're my Senpai [someone you look up to], Crystal!" I protested.
"I said call me Fionna!" she replied angrily.
"Okay, okay!" I said.
The last thing I heard was a huge blast. Pain spread from the crown of my head where a huge piece of debris hit, then I collapsed, the screams of my friends harmonizing with the aftershocks.
