Roman had always loved the mystery of soulmates. The idea that his soulring might turn pink at any given moment of the day was thrilling. He wanted to be the first of his friends to meet their soulmate. That dream had been crushed when Roman's friends came over for a sleepover in the seventh grade. The second Roman's brother had walked into the kitchen where he and his friends were, Janus beat Roman to finding his soulmate first.

Still, he was excited to meet his soulmate. Roman tried to look his best every day, just in case. Even though his favorite color was red, he usually dressed in mainly blue to match his ring. That was the only concern Roman had. His soulring was almost always a deep shade of blue, signifying that his soulmate was in a constant state of sadness.

When Roman finally did meet his soulmate, he planned on giving him the biggest hug of his life.

It was a normal Wednesday. Roman had just finished up his improv class, (which had probably turned his soulmate's soulring a bright yellow), and was about to leave home to meet his friend Virgil at their favorite café, Incredible Edibles. His phone buzzed in his pocket. Roman slipped it out of his pocket just enough to read the notification.

Emo Nightmare 😈 : Oh my god, Roman, you aren't going to believe this!!!

Princey 🌟: Wut happened?

Emo Nightmare 😈 : The server @ the café was my fucking soulmate!

Princey 🌟: No. Way. R u kidding me?????

Emo Nightmare 😈 : I'm dead serious. He came by the table to ask if I was ready to order and my ring turned pink!!

Roman couldn't help but feel insanely jealous of his friend. How is it that they're all meeting their soulmates before him? It almost wasn't fair. But still, Roman wanted to be a good friend, and that meant putting his jealousy aside.

Princey 🌟: Congrats man!!

Emo Nightmare 😈 : So yeah, would you mind if I took a rain check?

Roman's heart sank. He wanted to be there for his friends, but how could he do that if they were never free? They were always spending time with their soulmates instead of him. He barely even spoke to Janus nowadays. Roman started wondering if he and Virgil would start to grow apart now that he'd found his soulmate...

The whole soulmate thing wasn't as exciting anymore.
