Her Identity

After finding out she was Anika's chutki and Anika was her elder sister, Gauri never left her side for a second, even if it meant sleeping with her under a tight squished hug. After so many years Gauri was introduced to her sister, her Di who parted from her at a very young age, she was devastated until she met Mrs Sharma, who took care of her as her own daughter. Anika was equally pleased to meet her sister after so long, if it was for her, she would never let go of Gauri's hand ever again. After all, the two were each other's only family that connected them with their deceased biological parents. However now they were blessed with a loving and caring family. A loving husband, perfect sister-in-law, caring mother-in-law and kind grandma-in-law, the two sisters thanked God for filling their lives with loads of blessings to fill in for the happiness that was once taken away from them.

"Di. . ." Gauri trailed off as she hugged Anika tighter as they were laying down. "Yes Chutki?" Anika whispered back with her eyes closed, caressing Gauri's hair. "Di." Gauri repeated the word with the same tenderness and love and Anika smiled, "chutki. . ." An emotional moment caused chills in the spine for the two sisters as they cherished each other's presence, thanking god for uniting them.

"Go to sleep." Anika whispered in softness, cuddling with Gauri comfortably. Gauri snuggled in, closing her eyes as she hugged Anika with a smile formed on her lips.

"Good night Di."

"Good night."

Gauri had never imagined to find her sister in the same house with the same in-laws as her, it was a pure blissful blessing for her to be right with her sister without knowing she was her sister. She was always so jealous when other sisters used to tease and fight with each other and talk about how they would marry in the same house, but now that Gauri found her Di, she will do everything she couldn't with her to make up for the years she spent without her.

As she comfortably coddled with Anika, she sensed her warmth, the same warmth she would find in her mother. She couldn't be more grateful to her Shankar Ji for granting her the biggest happiness on earth, after all those pleas and painful journeys that tore her tired soul.

**

It was morning, and the sun brightly shone over the Oberoi Mansion.

Anika opened her tired eyes, surprised to see Gauri gone from her embrace. "Chutki?" She called out while sitting up, glancing around her room. "Chutki!" She called out again and lifted the blanket from her body, stepping down the bed and standing up.

"Di. I'm here." Gauri's voice brought peace to Anika, "where did you go?"

Gauri smiled as she stopped in front of Anika with a tray of coconut laddoo's. "I went to make these, we used to have them a lot when we were small. I thought to relive some of our memories."

Anika glanced down at the laddoo's and a smile curled over her lips. "Naryal ke laddoo?"

Seeing her sisters wide smile was enough to fill Gauri's stomach, she felt energised and gleeful. As Anika licked her lips, Gauri placed the tray on the bed and the two sat down.

"You still remember Chutki?" Gauri nodded her head positively, picking one up from the bowl. "You used to love these." She spoke, pushing it down Anika's mouth "and you used to feed me them like this." Gauri added and giggled while Anika covered her mouth while trying to eat the full laddoo.

Anika picked one and fed Gauri, who made a slight bitterest face while swallowing the small bite she took. "And you still dislike them."

"They're too sweet for my cheeks." She complained and Anika chuckled, pulling her cheek with affection. "When are they ever good for your cheeks?"

"Di!" Gauri moaned as she felt pain in her cheek and Anika passed her an air kiss, putting the laddoo down in the bowl.

"Gauri, can I borrow you for a second?" Gauri placed her hand over her cheek and turned her head around, looking at her husband walk into the room with Shivaay.

"Why?" Anika asked as she blinked at Omkara, "my chutki is staying with me."

"Anika bhabhi, you do realise I'm her husband now. . ."

"So? I met my chutki after so many years, I need more time with her." Anika teased and Omkara looked on while Gauri licked her lips to control her laughter.

"Come on Anika, you can catch up with her later on." Shivaay spoke as he flapped his eyes at Anika.

"Why Bade-bhaiyya, I want to catch up with Di right now, right here." Gauri pouted as she teased Shivaay, Anika pressed her lips together to avoid her chuckle that was in her throat after she witnessed Shivaay and Omkara's faces.

"But. . ." Both Omkara and Shivaay trail off and Anika and Gauri ended up chuckling, unable to keep it in them for longer.

They shared a high-five while Omkara and Shivaay merely blinked at them, unaware of why they chuckled.

"Of course we can catch up later, but why are you two so eager?" Anika questioned as she looked at both Omkara and Shivaay.

"Di. Bade-bhaiyya seems like he hadn't received a peaceful sleep without you." Gauri teased as she nudged Anika.

Shivaay looked embarrassed and merely shook his head while Omkara smirked, "no wonder I could sense a lot of movements." Omkara teased too and Shivaay shook his head.

Anika curled a smile while looking at an embarrassed Shivaay.

Gauri stood up, "let us leave so you two can have your personal time."

Anika passed Gauri a look and Gauri winked at her, exiting the room with Omkara.

"So tell me, did you miss me too?" Gauri shook her head as both of them slowly walk down the corridors. "Not even once?"

"Nope." Gauri replied and Omkara's face fell, "I was too happy and warm with my Di that your absence didn't really come to me."

Omkara frowned as he followed Gauri behind, standing besides her "but I missed you."

A smile hang from Gauri's lips, "did you really?"

"Yes."

"Thank you." Gauri replied while cocking her head to the side, flapping her eyes at him.

His expressions stiffened and he sighed, "just thank you?"

"Hmmm." She nodded while thinking, "why, was there something else I needed to say?" She pretended to think and he halted, holding her hand and pulling her towards him.

She was startled with this sudden pull towards his chest and stared into his orbs nervously. He drew lines over her cheeks with his index finger, leaning closer to her face.

"I missed you and I love you." He whispered and her heart skipped a beat.

His words were enough to make her heart flutter but his touch had passed an current through her heart, palpating it with his love. Her cheeks went warm and he smiled, as he stared into her chocolate brown orbs.

"You can't deny this now."

"O. . . Omkara Ji. . ." He placed his finger over her lips, stopping her from speaking and she merely locked her eyes with his. "I have a surprise for you, get ready."

"Hmm?"

"Was there something else I needed to say?" He repeated her phrase and let go of her with a smirk curved over his lips.

"What surprise?"

"If I tell you then it wouldn't be a surprise, get ready and come out in 5 minutes."

"But Omkara Ji. . ." Gauri stopped as she watched her husband, Omkara walking away. "Surprise?" She asked herself and narrowed her eyebrows "what could it be?" She wondered and continued walking, heading in the direction where her room is located.

*

After a while, Gauri walked out of the Oberoi Mansion, dressed and ready as Omkara had told her, scanning her eyes around to spot him.

"Where is Omkara Ji?" She mumbled to herself and walked down the steps and onto the ground.

Soon, a car parked in front of her and she walked forward, seeing Omkara in the driving seat.

"Sit inside." He ordered and she opened the passenger door, taking a seat inside and closing the door afterwards.

"Where are we going?"

"Surprise." He reminded with a smile dangling from his lips and Gauri sighed, giving up guessing where Omkara could possibly take her to surprise her.

After Gauri was buckled in, Omkara started driving towards the exit gate of the Oberoi Mansion.

"Gauri, how did it feel to find out Anika bhabhi is your sister?" Omkara questioned as he genuinely wondered how Gauri felt.

Gauri stared into space to think about how she felt and smiled as she opened her mouth to respond "I felt. . . Happy, relieved, grateful and emotional."

"I never imagined finding my sister in such situation. I feel blessed." She added, continuing to describe her feelings "I'm relieved to find my sister perfectly fine and healthy."

Omkara smiled as he gave a quick glance at Gauri while driving.

"I felt grateful to find my sister with me from the very beginning."

"I lost hopes that I would ever meet my Di, we were separated for so long and I just gave up. When I grew up, I went back to that orphanage to ask about my Di. . ." She continued speaking and passed a small scoff "but that orphanage had been closed down for nearly 6 years."

"At that point I thought I was never able to find my Di and I prayed for her welfare every single day." She wiped her watery eyes before tears could seep down and continued smiling, "I always prayed for her safety and always thought if she had food to eat or not, if she had a shelter to sleep under."

Omkara could sense her emotions and held onto her hand while driving. Gauri wiped her watery eyes with her drape to prevent any water from falling down. Memories of a young Gauri and a young Anika flash in her mind and she exhaled a wide smile.

"And then you came as a blessing and took me closer to my Di. . . Thank you Omkara Ji." She genuinely thanked Omkara while turning her head to the side, looking at him with affection.

"I didn't do anything." Omkara replied, not willing to take any credit for anything he didn't do.

"For me it was you, if you weren't sent to save my life from the villagers and if I didn't fall in love with you then meeting my Di would've been impossible." She honestly told and he looked at her, touched by her words.

"I'm more grateful you were sent into my life." He softly remarked and the two shared a small eye-contact before he had to look back at the road.

The car stopped and he exhaled a relief, "we're finally here."

Impatient Gauri moved her gazes beyond the glass, watching an old unclean, dusty, cobwebby house and narrowed her eyebrows.

"Why are we here?"

He unbuckled his seatbelt and opened the door. "You'll know once you see it."

She took her seatbelt off and opened her door, stepping out from the car. As she stood facing the house, a gust of air made her hair fly back. She continued to crease her forehead as she blinked at it, feeling a past connection. She felt like she knew this place and closed the door, walking towards it as if it was pulling her like a magnet.

Omkara slowly followed her, watching her touch the dusty old walls.

"Di! Come back here now."

"Try catching me if you can chukti!"

A sudden memory from the past flashed in her mind as the familiar house acted like a flashbulb for her. Her eyes watered and she slowly headed towards the door, swallowing her spit. It couldn't be what she thinks it could be right?

"Omkara Ji, this place. . ." She turned around to face her Omkara, and he nodded with a small smile on his lips.

Tears seeped down her eyes and she instantly turned, rushing to open the door. All her life, she had been searching for this place but couldn't remember where it was located clearly, this was it, her home, where she lived with her sister and father a very long time ago.
The connection with this place brought back so many memories that were slowly decaying, it felt great to be back to her home, a place that she felt attachment with, the place she was born and raised for few years of her life, the place where she had a happy family until the joy was taken away from them.

She pushed the door open entering with tears continuing to seep down her eyes. Omkara merely followed her inside and looked around.

"This was my home." Gauri revealed as her voice began to crack "where me, di and papa used to stay." She added and sobbed, rushing towards the beds.

Memories of younger versions of her Anika laying on them occupied her mind and she covered her mouth. "Th. . . This is where we used to sleep." She told Omkara, now moving towards the kitchen.

"Here chutki, have some naryal ke laddoo."

"No, I don't want naryal ke laddoo, I want jalebi."

She smiled through her tears and Omkara walked towards her, placing his hand on her shoulder. "Th. . . This is where Di would have coconut laddoo's every morning." Gauri chuckled through her sobs and faced Omkara with teary eyes.

Her eyes fall on the picture and she rushed there, holding it in her hands. "Papa. . ." She trailed off as she cried, finally seeing an image of her father. Despite being with her father, she was taken away at a young age and had been away from her father for a very long time, which caused his image to fade away.

"This. . . Is my Papa." She spoke, placing a kiss on the picture, "my papa." She proudly uttered and sobbed, closing her eyes while bringing the photo closer to her chest.

"Chutki, Anika. . . See what I brought you two." Gauri opened her eyes and veered her head at the door, seeing an visual image of her father, who walked in with white plastic bags.

"What?" She watched younger versions of her and Anika stop in front of him. "Jalebi, kachori, halwa and gulab jaman!" She watched herself and Anika clap their hands in happiness while hugging their father, who had bent down and kissed both of them on the cheeks.

The visual disappeared and Gauri looked on, her tears continued dripping down and she couldn't help but to cry. Omkara felt a void in his heart, seeing his love crying in front of him, he isn't definitely just going to watch her cry, he rushed forward to give her a shoulder to lean on.

"Papa. . ." Gauri cried and Omkara pulled her into a hug, caressing her head while she rested her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes to cry. "Don't keep it in you Gauri, let it all out." He advised, patting her back with his other hand.

"My Papa w. . . Was a great man Omkara Ji. . . He never let us feel the absence of a mother. . . He had always been there taking care of us. . . He was fighting against everyone just to. . . Raise us. . . I wish he was here to see how well he raised me and Di. Why did he leave Omkara Ji? Why!"

Omkara could feel her painful cry pierce through his heart and the next second his eyes were watery, he continued caressing her hair and hugging her tighter in his embrace, allowing her to cry despite his heart not being able to take it. Gauri's cries were loud enough to travel outside the door, she had lost control over her emotions, letting them flow out alongside her pain.

*

A while later, Gauri's eyes were puffy while she closed the door with care. She turned around and walked towards the car while holding Omkara's hand.

"Thank you for bringing me here Omkara Ji." She thanked as she glanced at him.

"It was my duty to bring you here, you deserved to see this place too."

She inhaled as she stared into space, controlling her tears once again.

"Please don't cry again, it breaks my heart to see you like this."

Gauri scoffed as she held onto Omkara's hand tighter, "you're the last person I would ever like to see get hurt."

He also tightened his grip on her hand, bringing it closer to his chest.

"I promise to always keep you happy."

Gauri smiled as she looked at Omkara and he looked at her, the two share an eye-lock which was soon followed by a hug. While hugging Omkara, Gauri held onto the photo frame firmly, closing her eyes as she found solace in Omkara's embrace.

Coming to her house, after so many years was a pleasant surprise for her. However remembering how her father looks like is the biggest happiness she could ever receive right now, she was grateful and thankful to Omkara and her shankar ji for giving her these opportunities she once lost, finding her sister, her home and remembering her father was the biggest blessings she could ever count, however being Omkara's Gauri was a blessing she could never count, because he is a form of a blessing for her himself.

All those years her heart yearned for her family and now that she was identified to have been Gauri Vardhan Trivedi, her heart is at peace yet she can never detach Kumari Sharma from her name, as much as Trivedi is her identity, Sharma was too. She would proudly call her self, Gauri Vardhan Trivedi Kumari Sharma Omkara Singh Oberoi, everyday. She was overwhelmed with all the good things happening to her at the same time, that she could never stop being thankful for everything she has right now.

"Shall we go home now?" Omkara asked as he broke the hug and Gauri opened her eyes with a smile over her lips. "Yes, let's go, our family must be waiting for us." She replied and he nodded his head, slightly stretching his elbow for her to interwind her arm around his.

As she did, the two walked towards the car. Towards her new family, a family that she could always take care of, a family that she can call her own, a family that she could love and cherish, a family that can give her all the love she missed out on.
