On a hot summer day in the middle of August, Rigel is walking around Arendell with his good friend Lenna. "So today is the night of the Dragon Harvest, right Lenna?" Rigel asked her.
"Yup. Tonight is the big night! We get to choose what class we'll pursue as we become adults!" Lenna replied.
"You seem pretty excited Lenna, I guess you already know what class you want."
"Well I'm going to follow in my mother's footsteps and be a White Mage. I've been practicing and studying for this day my whole life."
"That's great! Well I want to become a warrior, so I can do some mercenary work and make some money!"
"Good thing I'll be a healer, because someone's gotta be there to help you out in those dangerous situations."
"Yeah. You've really got this planned out."
As they went around the village, anticipating the big ceremony, they came across Rigel's brother.
"Hey Kaito!" Rigel called out.
"What do you want brother? Can't you see I'm busy?" Kaito asked.
"You're always over here practicing your sword skills. Don't you ever want to go out and have some fun with me and Lenna?"
Rigel responded.
"I don't have the time for that. Only the best of the best can even have a chance of making it into the King's royal guard. And today is my last day to practice since tonight is the night of the Dragon Harvest. If I want to start the initiation process tomorrow, I have to be ready to give it all I got." Kaito replied.
"So you want to be a warrior like Rigel does, Kaito?" Lenna asked him.
"Don't even compare me to my brother. We both may want to be warriors, but our intentions are completely different." Kaito growled.
"Now please, can you two find someone else to bother? I'm not done with my practice yet." Kaito asked, sounding irritable.
"Fine, come on Lenna, let's go have some fun to wait for tonight."
And with that, Rigel and Lenna walked off. The rest of the day seemed to go by quickly. Rigel and Lenna snuck into Mr. Henderson's garden, and grabbed some fruit for a snack. And they just went about their usual routine. Now it was almost time for the Dragon Harvest ceremony.
"Well Lenna, I'll see you tonight. I've gotta get back home before the festival, my Mom's gonna be wondering where I am." Rigel told her.
"Alright. I should probably get home too. See you tonight Rigel!" Lenna replied as she ran off.
As Rigel walked into his house, his Mom greeted him at the door.
"Oh Rigel! I can't believe you'll already be an adult tonight, my little munchkin is becoming a man!" His mother, June, replied.
"Aw, come on Mom. You've known this day has been coming for a while now." Rigel said.
"Yes I know. I just can't believe it's happening today. It's like time has just
been going by so fast. It seems like just yesterday you were a little baby sleeping in your Mother's arms." June exclaimed.
"Now now, sweetie. Our son will be a grown man tonight, so don't embarrass him on his special day." Rigel's Father, Wilford, said.
"Oh fine. I'll go work on the laundry then." June responded.
June walked outside, to wash some clothes. As she left, Kaito walked into the house. "Ah finally both my sons are here. You both will become warriors at the ceremony tonight, right?" Wilford asked.
"Of course." Rigel and Kaito answered simultaneously.
"I just wish at least one of my boys would want to follow in their dear old Dad's footsteps, and become a bard." Wilford told them.
"No way! That would be so lame! I do not want to be a bard!" Rigel proclaimed.
"Oh alright then. There's no changing your mind. Well you should get ready for the ceremony, we've got to head out early so we can get to the Capital."
Wilford told him.
After time went by, everyone went out on the way to the Capital City. They traveled by a horse-drawn carriage. It took them quite a long time to get there, Arendell is a long ways away from the Capital City.
The Kingdom of Valnerias is very huge. There are many cities and villages that lie in Valnerias, the Capital is the city that King Boric stays at in his castle, and the ceremony of the Dragon Harvest is held there.
The ride proved to be very scenic. They went by the beautiful forests, meadows, and mountains of Valnerias. Rigel thought about the many adventures he could partake in once he became a warrior. That will be a major part in his life that he is excited to begin. And being able to go through all that with Lenna, would make it even better. They have been friends ever since they were kids, he couldn't imagine life without her.
The group finally arrived at the Capital. It was already dark outside, the ceremony will be starting soon.
They made their way to the city plaza area, where the ceremony was being held. Kaito had his usual serious expression, but inside, he was filled with anticipation. Rigel saw Lenna over with her Mother, and shouted, "Hey Lenna! I'm over here!"
Lenna ran over to him, so they could be with each other during the ceremony. Suddenly, a man came out and rolled out a long red carpet. Then two more men came carrying a throne, which the king is sitting upon. "Greetings everyone. I'm grateful you all could make it out all the way here tonight. We shall begin celebrating the ceremony of the Dragon Harvest. The day that long ago, many brave heros sacrificed their lives to slay a dangerous dragon, so that the meat of it could be used to feed the citizens of Valnerias." King Boric shouted.
"Now anyone who is 16 years of age, please step forward."
Rigel, Lenna, Kaito, and many, many other people came to the front.
"Congratulations to all of you, tonight, you shall become adults. Now, we shall commence the ceremony!"
