VI: The Know
Artemis
Location: Olympus
I knew, I felt bad about it. But I knew nonetheless.
I knew as soon as he faced me and my hunters saving Nico and Bianca.
I knew as soon as he took the sky from my shoulders.
I knew that Percy Jackson, was the sea.
And there was no doubting that.
His aura was so strong, the other gods didn't notice it. They're eyes blinded by the ocean. It was all seeing, but could also take away that of sight.
I first met the sea, Percy, 200 years into my immortal life.
I was visiting my mother on her island...
Flashback
I flashed myself to my mothers island. A prison in which she was forcefully placed. Much like calypsos Ogyia, it was a beautiful place, but also with its many dangers.
I landed on the forests edge, and began the trudge through its thick brush.
I don't understand my fathers reasoning in keeping her here. But I don't question his authority.
I wandered through the forest, allowing my senses to wander. It was a different type of free being in wilderness. An intoxicating feeling, a drug to my senses as I could feel it's very essence around me. Smell the freshness of the dew on the leaves as larger droplets fell to the mossy floor, hear the animals feet scraping quickly against branches as they scuttled around the tops of dark birch trees, and see the hypnotising variations of greens scattered throughout the area vibrant as ever.
Sweet sweet ecstasy.
I took a deep breath, taking it all in.
But something caught my eye, a mossy cave wall, twisted in vines.
I felt as if I was gravitating towards it, something was calling my very being to it.
Giving in to the pull, I ventured over.
I willed my limbs to push the large , stone boulder out of the way, as I squeezed through the gap.
Upon entering I was met with a sight of which I could only dream was possible. I was met with a beautiful cove, it's high walls covered in a vibrant green moss, a light shone through a small gap between the earthen ceiling, illuminating a glittering aqua pool, connecting to the ocean as it went under the stones.
It was breathtaking.
I lowered myself to rest upon the rock behind me, on the edge of the water. allowing my eyes to wander.
I was in awe at its beauty.
"Seems like you like the place as much as me." I let out a high pitched shriek at the sound of a male voice.
I jumped off the rock, my arrow notched and ready to incapacitate the person who startled me.
And there he stood. On top of the water. Literally. Standing on the water.
He gave me a funny look.
"Who are you" it was a command. I was now a hardened warrior goddess. He would not intimidate me.
"Oh sorry, I didn't mean to startle you" he took a few steps towards me.
I Pulled back on the string of my bow. Stopping him in his tracks.
"Don't come any closer boy, answer the question" I snarled
He put his hands up, and I lifted a brow.
"Oh dear, looks like I met myself a feisty one" he chuckled.
I released the string. My arrow aiming true.
It hit him, right between the eyes. He didn't stumble nor did he cry out. He narrowed his eyes in annoyance. And pulled out the arrow.
My mouth hanging open, I was shocked, who was this male?
The arrow came out easy, no blood. In fact he actually leaked water for a moment until the wound sealed up, good as new, as if nothing had pierced him in the first place.
"Now that was rude" he quipped
My bow rested at my side, I was not chancing shooting this male again.
"What are you..." I searched his eyes for an answer.
But as I found myself looking into them further I couldn't help but feel as if I was drowning, his eyes looked like the ocean, waves constantly rolling around freely, playfully, a deep sea green, glittering with annoyance, and if I was correct it looked to be humour.
"My name is Perseus Jackson, call me Percy, and you Artemis, need to take a moment to think before you shoot poor innocent me again" he smirked.
Mighty gods of Olympus he was handsome. And coming from a maiden goddess...
A dark mop of hair rested on his head, sexily messed as if he needn't have enough care to fix it. He was lean, but built, his muscles strained against his fitting black T-shirt, the outline of an eight pack showed, and his cargo army pants, accentuated his warrior stature. His sharp features and accentuated jawline made him look godly.
He wasn't armed, but I worried that that was what he wanted me to think. That could make him a dangerous enemy.
"How do you know may name boy" I sneered
"Ugh, I know a lot of things, let's not get into that" he sighed in annoyance.
"What are you?" He was letting me ask these questions.
"I'm the sea, nice to meet you" he extended his hand for a handshake.
"Your not funny boy, be careful you don't incur the wrath of my uncle" he sighed exasperated.
"Okay Artemis, I'm going to tell you a story" he started
Flashback end
He told me his whole life story, and I admit, I didn't believe him at all. But time after time I went back there, I met him every week. Same time. Same place.
And as time went on, I believed him.
It wasn't until, one day when he couldn't come, that I realised I missed him. I Artemis, maiden goddess, most fierce hunter, and hater of men. Missed a man.
We had become inseparable. The best of friends.
I met his advisor, best friend and sister, Tatiana after 2 months of meeting. She was a fierce warrior, and we got along well. An understanding between women.
The three of us had fun back in those days. Until he had to leave. Both me and T.
He said it was important business. We didn't know, that while he was with us, he had another one of his formations fighting an intergalactic war in another dimension with chaos.
He left for 300 years.
Me and Tatiana kept in contact, but I missed him.
One day I was sitting in my palace on Olympus, and he appeared out of nowhere. No sound, no smell, nothing. Just appeared.
"Miss me" he had said
It made me realise that then, he would be the only man that I would ever trust.
And that made him special.
The three of us lost contact for Millenia as I formed my hunters, and they travelled the world, filling out their duties.
We had a few odd visits here and there, but then the idiotic man, did something stupid once again.
Flashback
I pushed open sliver the flap of my tent, serving as a gateway between the hunts camp centre and my privacy.
Zoe nightshade where on earth are you?
Honestly how hard can this girl be to find, she's been my lieutenant for decades.
I walked to the mess hall, expecting to find her there with most of her sisters, probably having something to eat.
Upon getting close to the door, I heard loud voices echoing out of it. They seemed to be arguing.
I walked through the open door, capturing the attention of my hunters, as they all looked up to me from what they were crowded around in complete silence, eyes wide as they were caught red handed .
My legs took me closer to catch a glimpse of what could have possibly deterred them from their jobs.
And in the centre of the huddle as the girls parted for me, standing angrily on opposite sides of the table, sending absolutely ferocious glares at each other were Phoebe and the lieutenant I was searching for Zoë. Looking as if they were about to break each other necks.
In between the two girls on the table, sat a single silver bracelet, with a beautifully carved dolphin pendent adorning it, with a sapphire for an eye.
"Why won't you tell us Zoë!? Huh! What's so special about it!" Phoebe snarled at her, ignoring my presence entirely.
Zoe's eyes flittered nervously around the room, before settling on mine. Something truly was wrong if she was nervous. What was my huntress up to.
"Girls what on Gaea's green earth is going on here?" I questioned looking at each hunters face, trying to see if they're expression would give anything away.
Phoebe turned around to face me, her face hard in anger, eyes flashing. Before they softened in shock upon facing my own silver ones as my glare met her own twice as strong.
She looked down. "M'lady, Zoe has been so protective over that bracelet ever since she came to the hunt, and when I asked her about it for the millionth time she still won't tell me or any of the other girls what it is."
I looked over at my lieutenant, her volcanic eyes shone with defiance, against phoebe obviously, but fear laced through them upon my appearance. This was puzzling.
I narrowed my eyes, scrunching up my eyebrows, thinking about what could become of this situation.
She has been awfully secretive and protective over that bracelet since she came to the hunt, but I have never questioned it, and it does not affect her ability to be a huntress. So what's all the fuss about.
I looked to Zoë, my eyes questioning. Her eyes met my own silver orbs head on, begging me to talk about it later.
A request I will grant.
I let my face ease, and turned to phoebe, putting on the face of a determined mother figure.
"Does this bracelet affect her ability to be a hunter phoebe?" I ask.
"Well...no but-"
"Do you question Zoe's loyalty phoebe?"
"Of course not, but M'lady-"
"Do you expect others to respect your privacy?" Reverse phycology, something in which I try on my own idiotic brother.
"Yes! B-"
"Then you will do well to respect others privacy as they would yours, this does not affect Zoës ability to be a loyal hunter and does not affect you either Phoebe, so I advise you to drop it." She hung her head in defeat, apologising to Zoë for invading her privacy.
I smiled, that wasn't so hard now was it.
"Now girls I believe you all have places to be, off with you" I ordered and the once crowded area became empty as they filed out.
"Zoe" I called, sneaky huntress, she was not getting out of this one.
Said lieutenant, stopped just outside the doorway before turning around to look at me, smiling sheepishly.
I walked over to the door. "Follow me"
She sighed in defeat, trailing along behind me.
Upon reaching the tent I pulled the flap open letting us both in, before sitting down on my cot, facing her as she chose to sit on the other side of the tent on a small arm chair.
"So what's this I hear about the bracelet? It's causing an awful lot of fuss." I queried, noticing her face pale slightly at the mention of it.
She fingered it on her wrist absentmindedly, finally giving in. "You know of my past M'lady, this bracelet was given to someone who I owe a favour to, a favour concerning my life, I am in debt to them. And this bracelet serves as the reminder. I'm sorry but I can't let it go, it's as important to me as my place in the hunt."
My eyes widened at her statement, Zoe rarely ever considered anything above the importance of being a huntress.
"And who may I ask, was this person you speak of" I stare intently into her volcanic eyes, curious for her answer.
"Um, M'lady, I-I can't..." she stuttered out. "I can't divulge the identity but...Um they said to tell you..." she seemed to contemplate her answer.
I felt myself lean forward slightly in anticipation. And what she said shocked me to entirely.
"Miss me"
Flashback end
So imagine my surprise when I came face to face with him and his friends, while fighting the manticore. He knew nothing of his real identity, and I wanted nothing more than to hug him.
I tried searching for Tatiana, because if he was here she was never far, those two stuck together like glue. But I couldn't for the life of me find her.
So life went on, I tried to ignore Percy, but when he took the sky for me, I knew it was him, and he was back.
After the Giant war, at his funeral. I didn't shed a tear. Because I knew the idiot wasn't dead.
Hestia. I never actually confronted her about it. But she just seemed to know something was off.
I wasn't sure if she knew or not but. She had a feeling, I thought it best to keep it that way.
I'm going to find that pain the ass. And when I do he's going to get a mighty good talking to.
