»They're Not Spies«

"Good morning ladies." Casey and Karlisle jolted upright, unaware they had succumbed to unconsciousness. Casey had a long black coat draped over her, which she pulled up to her shoulders as she sat up.

"Sir" Casey rubbed the back of her head.

"You look exhausted" Karlisle nodded toward him.

"I had to put up with Sherlock for almost 9 hours, what do you expect?"

"Damn, that was good" Casey chuckled under her breath, opening the cardboard box to find both rats still sleeping.

"Hey, my Uncle is not that bad!"

"He didn't say he was bad" Casey reasoned

"He's not bad at all, he's a good man. He's just a smart arse" Lestrade grinned cheekily.

Even Karlisle could not resist but laugh. Casey rose to her feet, placing the black coat over her arm, holding Jax in the small open pouch she'd taken from the office. Casey was patiently waiting for Karlisle to do the same.

"You're shivering, sir" Casey tilted her head at him in his white shirt and dress pants. It then dawned on her that the coat was his, and he had very kindly lent it too her. "I really appreciate you allowing me to use this."

"It's alright, you looked so cold, I had too" He spoke as he put the coat back on.

"Coffee, Sir?" She called, playing with the coffee machine behind him.

"It's alright darl, I'll do it later."

"So that's a yes" She laughed, scanning the machine. "What is this thing?" She murmured. John leaned over and fixed the coffee machine with one button. "I could have done that."

"I know" He kissed her hair, comforting her. Grumpy, however, she didn't respond but fold her arms. "Don't be like that sweetheart."

"Don't you have a case to be doing?"

"Do you have a rat now?" He ignored her question, stroking Jax's fur, who leaned out of the pouch draped across her body.

"Apparently." She gave Lestrade his coffee, to which he gratefully accepted with a tired smile and bloodshot eyes, and kept walking.

"Talk to me Cas."

"About what Uncle John?"

"I didn't mean to upset you."

Looking into his tired eyes and sighing, she wrapped her arms around him. She was exhausted, cold and needed to feel safe. "Awww my darling" He cooed, resting his chin on her head and rubbing her back. "It's alright, Uncle John's got you."

Both Karlisle and Casey had been vacated back to their temporary room when word reached Lestrade that a lady, decked out with explosives, was rescued in Cornwall. Intrigued, Casey had bugged the room, and both Karliele and her listened.

"....two men captured her, forced her to drive to the car park she was found and strapped her with enough explosives to blow up a house. She was told to ring you, with this pager telling her what to say. If she deviated one word, the sniper would set it off" Lestrade explains, exhaustedly.

"Elegant" Sherlock murmured.

"Elegant?" John mumbled to himself confusedly.

"What was the point? Why would anyone do this??"

"Oh, I can't be the only one in the world who gets bored." Sherlock received a call, when suddenly Casey's earpiece cut out.

"I'm working out some glitches" She murmured, tinkering with it.

"They're leaving" Holmes announced softly. "What's the plan?"

"Follow them"

"My sentiments exactly" She winked, tossing Casey her umbrella.

Pleading with an officer to allow them to use the bathroom down the hall, the two ladies were able to exit down the emergency staircase and out the furtherance fire exit of the building. Watson was struggling to keep up, and upon realising this Holmes accommodated by cutting through private property as a shortcut.

"You know they're going to be furious if they see us" Casey whispered as they made their way towards the crime scene, hiding Jax within my pouch.

"They won't see us." Karlisle frowned gently.

"This is Sherlock we're talking about."

"I know, but he's too invested in his case." Sherlock and John wondered around the crime scene hastily, speaking to a witness.

"Duck, now!" Casey's earpiece suddenly chimed. She jolted, shocked. She noticed as Lestrade spoke into his sleeve.

"He found my chip" She groaned, pulling Karlisle down as two officers waltzed passed unknowingly.

"I'm not stupid. What are you doing here??" He whispered.

"We're following" Karlisle visibly rolled her eyes as she whispered into the earpiece.

"Come here."

"And let them see us?  No way sir."

"I can't see you over there, what if something happens to you? This is a crime scene, anything could-"

"It won't Sir, don't worry." He frowned softly and continued to stare in their general direction. When Sherlock and John made their way, dashing off of the crime scene, Lestrade went over slowly, his hands in his coat.

"Ladies, car" He pointed. Both sigh, took his offered hands to stand up and walk slowly to the car, defeated.

"I need to invent something less obvious" Casey whispered.

"Like an insect one" Karlisle murmured in reply.

They both laughed softly and got into the car, placing Jax and Bucky in Casey's pouch. "Where are we going, Sir?" Casey spoke quietly.

"I'm taking you ladies home."

"What, why-"

"It's too dangerous for you to be around your uncles. That's it. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm trying to protect you" He murmured, driving towards their home.

His irritating phone ringtone began, and he sighed before picking it up. "...Alright, okay, fine, yes" he murmured under his breath. "And the girls? Sherlock, no...if we're going somewhere dangero- well of course I do! You should care much more than I! You're their bloody guardian!" They caught snippets of Lestrade's conversation before he turned the car around suddenly, turning his sirens on and flying down the highway.
