Chapter 96
Why'd you only call me when you're high by Arctic Monkeys
Why'd you only call me when you're high?
I have my duffel bag ready in one hand and my suitcase in the other. "Are you really leaving?" Xander frowns with sadness.
I look at him with a stern but calm expression, "Xan you know I have to." I tell him.
Avery got a call when the timer ran out, or so i've heard from Xander, Grayson and Avery went to speak to Zara and found a few things. Then Xander and Avery went to speak with Nan. Then Avery was shown Tobias Hawthorne's list. All of this whilst I was sleeping warmly in my bed for the last time.
"But knowing it's for the best doesn't make it hurt any less." Xander says softly.
I drop my duffle bag down to the ground and jump into his arms for one last hug. His arms grip around my stomach squeezing me tight as if he'll never see me again. My legs are wrapped around his whole body and my hands are clinging to the back of his shirt. Tears drip down my face and onto his shirt. I can tell he's crying too based off the occasion cries out.
"You're the only good thing thats happened to this place." He speaks into my blonde hair.
This makes me cry even harder. I've said goodbye before. But this time something feels different. I'm not coming back, and this time I don't have Grayson to get my thoughts lost in. Once i'm gone i'm truly gone for good.
"Don't let Max hear you say that." I snark back through sniffles.
He scoffs a laugh through his tears, "I love Max." He confesses abruptly.
I gasp at his words and jump from his arms, grabbing his hands and forcing him to jump around with me as I squeal excitedly.
"When are you going to tell her?" I ask excitedly, neither of us even bothering to wipe the tears on our cheeks.
"Tell her? Are you crazy?" He laughs. "You have to tell her. She definitely loves you too, you should tell her." I bound excitedly.
I end up calling her to tease Xander and he panics around chasing me around the room as I have a normal conversation with her. Of course I wouldn't actually ruin that conversation for either of them but it's still funny to see him panic so much.
"Hey Maxxy." I sing in a mocking tone, squealing out when Xander almost catches me.
"Hi Pear? Why are you screaming?" Max replies through the phone.
"Paris stop!" Xander yells out as I dodge his attempt at a grab and keep running around. The puppy jumps off the bed and starts chasing me too, seeing this as a fun game. Her huge ears flop around with every run. Her gentle and sweet barks attempt to be loud and scary but instead come out as comedic.
"Is that Xander? Why is he barking?" Max asks with confusion.
"Yeah it is. I've got a rabid beast chasing me, and a cute puppy." I joke, Xander sends me the middle finger as I call him a rabid beast.
"You guys got a dog?" Max says excitedly. "She's adorable isn't she." I say, turning the camera on and aiming it down the bundle of joy chasing after me, then angling it up to Xander.
He pauses and adjusts himself so he doesn't look discomposed when Max see's him. I can't lie they are adorable together.
Xander and I sit down together with the puppy desperately trying to climb up my shirt again to see Max. We tell her everything she's missed out on.
"You and Jameson hooked up?" She gapes. "So you've seen him naked?" She laughs, I nod with a shrug.
"Lucky!" She squeals making Xander tilt his head slightly. "How big?" She asks me. I shake my head with a gag, as does Xander. "That's my brother!" Xander yelps with disgust.
"Okay, you know what, it's fine. I don't have to know. I just won't tell you how big Xander is." She folds her arms pettily.
"No I need to know." I cry out dramatically.
"Hey!" Xander yelps. "Just tell me when." I order and start slowly bring my hands further and further apart. Xander glares at me with no amusement. My arms are fully stretched out until I can't stretch them any further, gasping and teasingly laughing. Xander shakes his head with a laugh and pushes me gently.
"Can I be the one to say it? I suddenly feel like we've all gone from Disney channel to Euphoria in the past three months." Max interjects, making us all laugh.
"I mean you have a point. I left for college like four months ago when I was still a virgin and now I'm like a mega slut." I agree.
We continue joking around until I absolutely have to leave for my flight before i'll be late.
"What about Christmas?" Xander sighs sadly. "I'll spend it with my roommates. They've already decided we're having a cosy Christmas at home." I tell him.
"You should still visit." He encourages, "Or better yet, you could visit me?" I suggest.
"This house ruins everything it gets its hands on.. or maybe it's the people in the house that do the ruining." Xander speaks remorsefully.
He bends down to my level for a final goodbye hug. He isn't very willing to let me go but when he finally does, my last ever hug goes to the puppy who is crying when I walk out of the room.
And then i'm gone. I'm on the flight. I'm going home. I told Xander to tell everyone where I went and that I won't be back until after my college graduation.
Turning the key to my house feels surreal. Without Grayson. Things feel lonely, like without him behind me to walk through this door there's no point even walking through them in the first place.
I push open the door and immediately head for the kitchen to feed my starving stomach at these late hours.
I hear whispers up the stairs. They slowly creep down and I scream when they all jump out holding random objects in defence.
Maddie sighs and drops her stuffed bunny rabbit to the ground, giving me a hug.
"Paris!" She smiles softly into my shoulder.
"What brings you back?" Hayden asks, placing down the decorative plant he planned to use as a defensive weapon.
"At one in the morning might I add." Wyatt sighs, placing down his pointe shoe. "With blonde hair." Rachel adds with a proud smirk, placing down the photo frame she was planning to use if I was an attacker.
"Without your arm candy?" Maddie nudges me, my smile falters and turns to a slight frown.
I round the counter and start preparing myself a plate of their leftovers, some cheese pizza.
"We broke up." I inform them, only to be met with gasps and gaped jaws.
"What? Why?" Hayden furrows his brows.
I refuse to look up at them from my plate of pizza as I explain this. "I said something. He walked out. I fucked his brother." I shrug calmly. They all stare at me in confusion and shock.
"Are you okay?" Rachel is the first to speak up sympathetically. "Yeah i'm fine." I dismiss. I keep eating and avoiding eye contact to hide the pools in my eyes at the memory.
"Yeah he's cute and everything but did you see a real future with him or was he just a fuck buddy?" Rachel asks comfortingly.
"Just a fuck buddy. Nothing more." I confirm with a positive smile. "So you moved on and fucked his brother? What about him?" Wyatt asks.
"He's getting cosier with my long lost sister." I grimace. "Okay just ignoring the fact you now have a long lost sister. You're jealous, right?" Maddie gossips.
"I'm not jealous, I just want to punch her whenever she goes near him." I smile brightly. "Jealousy is a beautiful yet hateful road." Hayden says poetically.
"So what exactly did you say to make him walk out?" Maddie interjects. "I told him I loved him." I admit remorsefully.
Rachel gasps in shock. "He just sort of said 'oh' then put his shirt on, told me we were over and walked out." I tell them.
"That my dear, is the kind of lad that us brits would describe as a fucking wanker." Wyatt scoffs.
"Yeah.. he's a fucking wanker." I scoff a laugh, throwing the box of pizza in the trash.
"Okay rewind.. You're fucking someone from the fifth richest family in the states?!" Maddie gapes, rounding the island and placing two hands on my cheeks, shaking me with a laugh.
"Technically two guys from the fifth richest family in the states. But not anymore." I shrug nonchalantly, walking out of her grips and heading for my bedroom upstairs. Everyone quickly follows me up, everyone walking inside my room and watching me as I get changed, except Hayden who quickly averts his eyes.
"Okay why are we wearing that?" Rachel gestures to the tight pink dress i'm getting dressed into.
"Come on ladies, gays and Hayden. We're going out tonight." I smirk.
Everyone starts squealing and running around to get ready.
We're all heading out to some nearby Harvard seniors party and by no later than 2am we're all squealing and dancing around these older guys kitchen. The guys watch us and cheer, we pay no attention to them and just appreciate the fact we're getting free booze.
We reach 5am. I'm waisted beyond comprehension. Hayden has two older girls grinding on him. Maddie is with her boyfriend kissing her all over her body. Rachel is past out on their couch. Wyatt went upstairs with a guy over an hour ago and nobody has heard from him since.
I'm smoking outside when I do something I know I'll regret sooner or later. I call him.
"Hey.. hey Gray." I slur into my phone. He didn't pick up, of course it is 4am there so I can't imagine why he would.
"I just wanted you to know you really hurt me. And I know you're probably busy.. but I wanted you to know i'm sorry. I'm sorry for wrecking your family. I'm sorry for ruining what we had. I'm sorry for even coming to Texas and stepping foot in that house. But i'm not sorry for loving you. I don't care if you don't. I love you. And i'm at a party with all my friends right now, drunk out my mind but all I can think about is your stupid face." I cry out into the cold night air.
"I'm sorry for this drunk call in the middle of the night." I finish with a scoff through tears before hanging up.
(a/n. I'm so sorry for the late and short update this week, I am so ridiculously sick right now and I could not muster the energy to write anything last night so I had to cram it all in tonight. Thanks for reading.)
