Chapter 14

the comments are gettin less n less :(

"Michael, I need you to be completely honest with me."

The redhead raised his pierced eyebrow in questioning to his cousin.

Calum forced a mini-meeting between all four of the best friends.

They sat at a café, Calum sitting next to Luke, Ashton and Michael sitting across from them.

Best friends across from best friends.

"Okay?" Michael nervously picked at his straw that rested in his milkshake cup.

Calum pursed his lips before asking, "Are you and Luke a thing now?"

The blonde's intense stare to Michael told him to lie, but he couldn't.

He's only ever lied to Calum once and that was a big mistake.

"I mean-" he glanced at Luke again, seeing the desperate look in his eyes. "We've only ever made out a couple of times, really."

He guiltily watched as Luke's lips turned into a frown as he stared out of the window.

"So, you have like feelings for Luke?"

Michael wanted to honestly leave the café. It wasn't Calum's business, but at the same time it was.

Luke was his best friend and Michael was his cousin.

He could see Luke flicker his eyes to him, seeming to also be curious about this answer.

Michael always avoids talking about romance, or who he likes. Mainly because it just stresses him out.

He tapped his boots against the tiled floor, wishing the waiter or anyone could interrupt their conversation.

Calum's stern, brown eyes intensely watched him, taking in all the nervousness.

"I don't know," Michael finally answered.

It was the only answer that wasn't a certain yes, which would freak Calum out for sure and it wasn't a certain no, which would potentially hurt Luke's feelings.

   "You don't know?"

The whole table's eyes widened at the blonde's words. Luke glared lightly at Michael.

Ashton placed his hand on Michael's knee, the look in Luke's eyes much too familiar for his liking.

   "Fantastic," he spat.

Michael furrowed his eyebrows, not sure why his answer aggravated Luke so much.

"I'm confused! Stop being angry about it, it won't help anything," Michael narrowed his eyes.

"So am I just going to sit around and wait? When you potentially won't like me in the end?" Luke's voice cracked, his eyes scanning Michael's face for any guilt.

   Surely, the redhead's face softened.

   "You l-like me?"

Surprise swept across Calum's face and he excused himself to go to the bathroom.

Ashton couldn't, since he sat against the wall.

"Yeah! I do!" Luke continued, feeling his waterline saturate.

Michael grabbed a napkin and leaned forward, wiping underneath the blonde's eyes.

"Hey, hey, please don't cry. I hate seeing you cry. I didn't mean to hurt you."

Michael was standing up by now, leaning over the table, face to face with Luke.

As Calum walked out of the bathroom, he saw his best friend cup Michael's cheeks, desperately connecting their lips as a single tear rolled down his red cheek.

He's always been against the two of them together. Luke, and Michael...together?

That was until he watched Michael pull away slightly, with a small smile as he used his thumb to wipe the tear away.

Luke pouted, but his pout was replaced with a smile as Michael pecked the tip of Luke's nose.

He finally walked towards the table, Michael clearing his throat and pretending like nothing has happened.

Maybe he was being a little harsh on his cousin, he admitted to himself.

"I think you two would make a cute couple."

Michael's eyes defined the word shock after Calum said that, the same person who scolded him about it a few weeks back.

The same person who warned Michael that Luke was going to break his heart.

He watched Luke shove Calum slightly, the Kiwi boy breaking out into a huge grin as he looked at his best friend.

The two laughed and chatted with each other, all sadness wiped away from Luke's eyes.

Michael smiled, turning his head to Ashton.

"Calum isn't wrong," The curly haired boy assured him. Michael nodded, but something didn't feel right.

He never thought about him and Luke in an actual relationship.

His last relationship in London was a total nightmare and if he only stayed friends with the guy, he wouldn't have been left with bruises.

   Quite frankly, Michael was afraid.

But when he saw the sparkle in Luke's blue eyes as their gazes met, he didn't want to be afraid anymore.

He wanted to keep that sparkle in Luke's eyes even if it kills him.
