prologue
Rain hit the umbrella and Jeon Yeonjun's grip tightened around it. His knuckles were white, the purple of his bruises on his skin. Standing here still felt like a bad dream. Because Yeonjun still couldn't believe what he had lost.
Standing in front of a grave. A death that shouldn't have happened and that had been his fault. His childish mind hadn't understood but now as an adult, Yeonjun could. How could he still look into his father's eyes, knowing this death was solely his fault? All he did was blame himself and Yeonjun wasn't going to allow that anymore.
Not when it was his fault. He had been naive, too trusting as a child. He had ran away, had disappointed, had worried his parents to no avail. Now, as an adult, he realized the mistakes of his childhood.
All his Appa ever wanted was to protect him, all his father ever wanted, was to keep him safe. And look where that got them. Broken apart by a death that shouldn't have happened.
"Junnie... Baby, it's raining cats and dogs, you'll catch a cold."
A lone tear ran down Yeonjun's face and he allowed it to roll down his cheek, disappear into the black of his suit. Above him, the sky was crying for the dead too. Yet Yeonjun felt like nothing could reach the sorrow in his heart.
"It's my fault, Appa... all of this is my fault", he whispered, feeling warm arm engulf him, the petit form of his father barely reaching his shoulders as Jeon Taehyung hugged him tightly.
"What nonsense... he told you, Junnie, he wanted to protect you. He loved you so much as if you were his own child. He wouldn't want you to beat yourself up for something you didn't do. It isn't your fault and you know it", Taehyung's voice was sprained with pain too, barely holding himself together.
This was the world they lived in, this was what he had prepared himself for when he had approached him with the request to help his family. Taehyung blamed himself too. If it weren't for him, maybe he would've been alive today.
All of them were heartbroken, but especially Jimin. He had lost his best friend, his partner in crime. None of them were like before.
"I know who did it and I'm glad he suffered for it. I'm happy Dad made him pay before taking him out", Yeonjun said darkly, hatred mixing into the pain in his voice. All because of that greedy man who wouldn't accept defeat, who wouldn't accept that he had lost.
A man, a monster, trying to reach for his dearest Appa and being rewarded with the fury of the Jeons for trying to split them apart. Jeon Jungkook had made sure of it.
"Junnie, my Baby, please. It's been five years. I'm not asking you to forget, I'm asking you to forgive yourself. He... he wouldn't have wanted to see you suffer", Taehyung's voice broke in the end, feeling tears clouding his vision.
Yeonjun reached behind him, blindly. After all this time, he still couldn't let go. After all this time, all he had in mind was the way his father had trembled in fear, crying and begging for mercy and how he had come to the rescue. How fell, the blood, the screams, the pain-
Yeonjun shook his head, turning around and engulfing his father's frail form with strong, trained arms. His Appa wrapped his arms around him, pulling him close. All this time and Taehyung had always seemed so strong.
But since the death of their beloved person, he had appeared fragile, broken. It worried Yeonjun and it worried his Dad.
Behind his Appa, Jeon Jungkook stood with an umbrella, shielding his precious husband from the pouring rain, a broken expression on his face. He too blamed himself.
So much pain. The man who had caused all of this was someone who wouldn't be of concern now. He was gone, as well as the person they held dear.
"Tiger, none of this was your fault. The only one to blame is the one who caused of this. You had no part", Jungkook's voice was rough, dark rings under his eyes. He didn't seem in pain but Yeonjun knew that the bullet wound in his shoulder never healed right.
"I think I know that deep inside of me. Still, I cannot help but to feel like I'm the one to cause all of this... If only I were more careful. Then none of this would have happened."
Yeonjun's face was grim. After all those years, he still couldn't let go. Yes, he might have gotten his happy ending, his parents were reunited and safe, he should be happy but at what cost? Everything reminded him of these times, of the times when all of them were still together.
Back when they were happy and caught in Harmony.

A prologue that'll tease the end, that'll make you suspicious. This is still a happy ending story btw but with a hint of bitter sweetness. Hope I got you hooked :)
