2. The present.
Six months had passed in a blink of an eye and I now lead a much busier life.
I enjoyed my job to some extend as I was respected highly among the Shuumatsuban for carrying out all sorts of arduous tasks. It felt like I had a family along with me after such a very long time while working with similar people.
The head, Kamisato Ayato was still as same as the day I had first met him. Full of mystery yet he mischief. His friendly demeanor was quite threatening as behind the mask, he was quite the cold leader.
However, No matter how important or unimportant he was, he surely liked getting on my nerves. Especially by sending me in to fulfill his errands at Grand Narukami Shrine. Well if it weren't for Guji Yae's scary presence there I would've whole heartedly gone there.
She was quite really 'something', for a divine priestess. She knew everyone and everything. That includes me too. It only took her a few meetings with me to understand me.
Apparently we both shared the same liking for food and sake. She liked reading light novels on the other hand I had no time to read such things due to the load of work Ayato had supplied on me by keeping me as one of his retainers as well.
"Ah hello there y/n~ A pleasant day don't you think, little one?" She suggests as she looks at the clear sky before looking at me. "You look awfully tired, pray tell me is your boss bothering you again?"
"Good morning Guji Yae." I said in a low tone, tired tone. "As much as it bothers, work is work. How else am I supposed to live. I have a message."
"Oh I see Mr. Commissioner has sent you here to send in some messages yes? I'm all ears in." she says as she comes forward to lend her ears entirely to listen to what I was about to tell.
The Narukami Shrine and the Yashiro Commission were of strong ties. Naturally, Ayato began using the Narukami shrine as a place to keep his Shuumatsuban agents perfectly blended in a social world with the help of lady Yae Miko.
"During morning dew, traitors beneath the lofty abode of the almighty one, conducts mischievous acts of treason and betrayal. For they are sinners, The dark shadows must put an end to their show. Cleanse the traitors, suggests the leader to his subordinates.." I said in a low tone, using the special keywords to communicate with Guuji Yae.
This had meant that in early hours of morning, beneath Tenshukaku, there were Shogunate forces conducting dealings with Treasure hoarders and the Fatui and the Shuumatsuban had to put an end to this by killing them all. Of course Lady Yae should've grasped this faster than any normal individual would have taken.
"Hmm, quite the courage of them to do in beneath the lofty abode of the almighty one." She said in a laughing tone.
"That is true, which is why he emphasized on 'hastened actions'. Now if I may, I'll be informing this to Gendou-" I say as I look over my subordinate who stood by the lucky draw reading station near the sacred sakura.
Before I could walk away towards her, Yae Miko had held onto my hand in a discrete manner, slowly warning me, "No don't Y/n. She's not Gendou."
Startled by the suddenness of the information, I turned around to look at her in doubt. "What do you mean Lady Yae? She's Gendou from the-"
"She's a Fatui from Snezhnaya. The real Gendou had gone out to report something and would take hours to return back. The Gendou we are seeing right now, just some imposter I believe." Yae says as she observes at the imposter fatui standing by the shrine.
I sigh heavily and pinch my nose bridge in annoyance, "Then why on Teyvat are you letting her stay here? You should be expelling her or even let Lord Ayato know about this!"
The head priestess lets out a hearty laugh at my suggestion. "Mhm no, I'd like to see what they are plotting."
"Would you like me to inform the Lord Ayato at the very least? I can do the talking." I suggest, slightly concerned at the graveness of the situation
"Mhm~ What an offer! Even if I said 'no' to you, would you have not done it?~" Lady Yae says as she turns around, walking away. "Oh and, if you are ever visiting the city, do go read some light novels. There are really good ones being published this week."
After having a small laugh along with Guji Yae, I decided to walk back to the Kamisato Estate. As I took slow paces down the slope, I admired the sakura petals that were all over the place in full bloom.
It was a pleasant spring.
Realizing, I had work pending, I hastened my journey towards the Kamisato Estate. As I walked down, I had noticed a blonde person with a floating pet? walk upstairs.
An outlander in Inazuma? During the Sakuko decree that too?
However, their presence had nothing to do with me as I hurried back down.
