Chapter 2
AMELIA AND MADELINE ARE IN THE LIVING ROOM, waiting for their parents to arrive.
Amelia. I cannot wait for them to get back. Have they brought any surprises?
Madeline. Me too. Maybe they brought gifts, new clothes, or some new foods to try.
The grand entrance door opens then, and Serafina and Colin walk in. Madeline and Amelia ran over and hugged them.
Amelia. Hello, mother and father. How was the trip?
Colin. It was wonderful. Rapunzel and Flynn are finally married, and they seem to be happy.
Madeline. That is wonderful indeed. Do they know that we would have gone if it were not for the tide?
Serafina. Yes, they very much understand.
Kaitlyn. Oh wow! This is a lovely castle. It is much bigger than ours.
Henry. I agree. Now, where are our favorite cousins?
Amelia. Right here!
Amelia and Madeline embrace their cousins and bring them to the living room to talk.
Kaitlyn. So, Amelia. Find anyone of interest?
Amelia. I have actually. His name is Johnathan. He is a prince.
Madeline. They are really in love, and Johnathan treats her with kindness and respect and never does anything to be unfaithful or misleading.
Henry. That is good.
Amelia. Yes. We have been together for five years, and he might propose soon.
Kaitlyn. That is exciting!
Serafina and Colin come in with some cookies and milk, and they share many adventurous stories and laugh a few. Then, it is time for Henry and Kaitlyn to leave so that they can start their honeymoon.
Amelia and Madeline go to their shared room and clean up.
Amelia. Do you think Johnathan will want children?
Madeline. With any luck, he will want children only if you want children.
Amelia. What do you mean?
Madeline. The two of you have to talk about whether you want children, how many when you want to try for children, and how you will split the responsibilities.
Amelia. Oh. Makes sense.
The two sisters finish their beds and head to the showers to bathe. The two sisters have their baths and laugh while cleaning.
They finish their baths, change into night clothes, and bed head.
The following day, Amelia wakes up and smiles at the bouquet of roses. She reads the attached note while eating her breakfast.
Note:
Dear Amelia,
I love you so much. I am so thrilled and content when I am around you. I think about you every minute of the day, and I cannot get you out of my mind. I want to be around you and talk and laugh with you every waking moment, and I do not ever want us to split apart. I hope you have the most fantastic birthday, and I hope you receive these flowers well. I wish you the best of luck deciphering the clues around the village.
Yours truly,
Johnathan.
End Note.
Amelia smiles and sees a card nestled in the roses. She opens the card and reads it.
Card 1:
Happy birthday, darling. The first clue is where we met, and we shared our mutual connection of being firstborn and taking over as future King and Queen. It is also where we shared our first kiss under the Mistletoe.
Amelia thinks momentarily and smiles as she remembers the terrace overlooking the garden. She goes downstairs to eat breakfast, show off the note, flowers, and card, and then heads to the terrace.
This card has a blue ribbon, unlike the first one, which has a red ribbon.
Card 2:
I knew the first one would be easy. This one and the others will progressively become more challenging. This clue will lead you to where we went on our date. You are eight cards closer to your surprise.
Amelia leaves the castle, hops on her horse, and makes her way to the enchanted forest, where they take a boat ride down a small stream and picnic. She searches the area upon arrival and finds the next clue: a ship on the shore.
Card 3:
You are doing amazing things! The next clue will be found by taking this boat downstream. The exact path we took on our first date. The following location is where we first spent the night together but did not sleep together this time.
Amelia enters the boat but sits briefly before realizing the next clue must be at the trading post and inn. She heads downstream and makes it to town. When she arrives, Amelia goes to the small building and sees a card on the bar.
Card 4:
Wow! You are good at this. First, get some food and maybe a drink. The next spot is where we met each other's parents for the first time. And it was not at either of our castles as tradition would predict.
Amelia orders water and a ham and cheese sandwich with a mint chocolate cookie and figures out the clue. A few minutes later, she receives her order and realizes the next clue will be at the town square by the fountain.
She eats her lunch and heads towards the town square. When she arrives, she sees the card on the fountain's edge and opens it to see what is written.
Card 5:
Congratulations on making it halfway through the scavenger hunt! I hope you enjoyed your lunch. The next place is where we had our first time. I reserved our room, so it was not just out in the open. This one is more difficult because there are two buildings.
Amelia heads to the hotel where they stayed and shares their first time together. She shows the card, and they allow her to search the rooms. Luckily, no one checked in for that day, and the rooms were freshly cleaned. She searched every room on the top floor of both buildings since she knew it was that room.
She remembers that they were given a room number and had to try every door because they had been a little drunk, but not so much that they forgot the whole event completely.
She finally approaches room 506, building two, and successfully unlocks the door. She enters the room and sees a card on the bed. This time, a bouquet of roses is red instead of white on the bed. She picks up the card and reads it as she holds the roses in her other hand.
Card 6:
I am getting excited to see you finally. I know that you are going to love the surprise I have planned. But first, your next clue is where you get a makeover. I chose this because the first time you visited me after your appointment, I loved the hairstyle and makeup, and when I asked for the location, you stated this location.
Amelia is thrown for a loop. She honestly does not remember much of the event because she had to have surgery for a kidney transplant, and she was treated to anything she wanted. She puzzled and puzzled, and she produced the Fancy Fabulous Salon and Boutique.
She arrived, and much to her delight, there was a card.
Card 7:
Wow! This is coming to an end. It is wild how far we have come. We have been together for five years, and I love every minute. I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with you. Finish your hair, makeup, and maybe a lovely dress. Do not worry; the stylist will know which dress to give you since I picked it based on your favorite color and because I see the surprise. I also liked it because it is my favorite style and has miniature diamonds, you can choose. The following location is where we embarked on our first vacation. I am making the rest of these more accessible.
Amelia gets her hair and makeup done, and then she slips into a light blue silk dress that is mid-length. There are miniature, iridescent blue and white diamonds, the sleeves are off the shoulder, and the neckline is a heart shape. The ensemble has blue and white diamond earrings, a matching bracelet and necklace, and blue flats with white bows. She pays for the services and heads to the following location.
She arrives at the docks shortly after leaving the salon and boutique and sees a docker man with a card for her. She thanked the man and read the card.
Card 8:
You are approaching the end, and I cannot wait to see you. I know you will look beautiful, as you always do, and I am so excited and nervous to see the answer to my question. The following location will be our secret spot where we share our hopes and dreams.
Amelia makes her way to the far end of the boardwalk, where the sellers' stands are. She searches each stand, remembering the days when they would share what they wanted to become and what they wanted to do when they were older. She finally finds the card in a pile of apples. She picks up the card and reads what is written.
Card 9:
This is it! The second to last card. You are so close to your surprise. I have said this repeatedly, but I cannot wait to see you. You are the most beautiful person I have ever met, and I would not want to spend my time with anyone else. This clue will lead you to where I first asked you to be my girlfriend.
Amelia goes to the enormous maple tree in the abandoned garden behind the town square. She searches the garden and finds the maple tree, and the last card is in the honey jar they used to store their paintbrushes. They used to paint rocks, set them in circles, and called them hope circles, and they wrote one piece of advice for others to take as needed.
Card 10:
You have made it to the last card! You are one step closer to being with me. This previous clue should be easy. Walk ten steps behind the tree and take a left, then twenty steps until you see an archway. Your surprise awaits you there.
Amelia follows the path as directed and sees an archway with roses of assorted colors and fairy lights. There is also a red velvet carpet, and she sees her sister, mother, father, and King of the kingdom of Bella Dona and the Queen and Johnathan standing underneath the archway.
She smiles as she walks up to her beloved.
Amelia. Darling, this is amazing. I love it. What is the occasion?
Johnathan goes down on one knee and pulls out a ring box. Inside is a beautiful diamond ring with emeralds and sapphires surrounding the diamond.
Johnathan. Will you marry me?
Amelia. Oh my gosh. Yes! Yes, I will marry you!
Johnathan puts the ring on her left hand and kisses her. The two of them embrace as they share a sweet kiss and celebrate with their family by going out for dinner.
