« Chapter Five »

Stella's POV

I sighed, trying to calm myself down but failing miserably. I fixed my hair for the umpteenth time and realized no matter what it's going to get messed up with the wind blowing. I'm not sure why I'm being like this. I've never dressed up for a man before, and I've never made sure I wanted to look good. But here I was, doing just that.

Stupid cute boys and how they affect me.

"Get a grip, Stella. Today is going to be fine." I rolled my eyes at myself in the mirror and walked out of my bathroom. I grabbed my phone, an extra charger, money and my confidence and then left the dorms with the hopes that tonight might be the night where I finally get to hang with Chase like he promised.

I jumped on the shuttle bus right outside of my dorm and crammed myself in with the rest of the student body. Tonight was the big football game against Michigan and I promised my friend Maren I'd go with her. This was only my second time going to a game in all three years I've been here, it never interest me until recently. And I shook my head at the reason why.

Chase.

I looked down at my phone, rereading the texts from last night. My heart dropped when he texted me and I don't think it's moved from that spot.

Chase: We need to talk

Chase: Ur goin 2 game rite?

Chase: Meet me at half time. Ill sneak away.

Me: Oh? Um. Yes. I'll be there!

Chase: Perfect =) Nite Stellaaa!

Me: Goodnight, Chase. Good luck tomorrow!

I couldn't even begin to think of why he wanted to talk to me. Unless he found out about Ryan? But that was nothing. I mean, we kissed and that was all. People kiss all the time and it means nothing, right? There was no way he could know about that, pretty sure no one saw us and why would they even tell Chase anyways?

So besides that, I'm completely lost as to why he wants to meet up, but the fact that he does, kept me up all night. I'm so nervous, and excited that I don't even see the guitar case sitting in the seat across from me and the owner with stormy blue eyes staring right at me until it was too late.

Ryan jumped off the bus as soon as it made a stop. He looked at me as I stared at him from the window. I know I should run after him, but I was glued to the spot.

Everything from the night before came crashing back; his lips on mine, his softness, the underlying question of what this meant between us. Ryan looked at me with an unreadable expression, and I had to know what last night meant.

"Stop!" I yelled as the bus started to move again. "Stop the bus, I gotta get off!" The driver slammed on the breaks, causing people to fall forward and groan. I ignored the complaints and jolted off the bus and ran to where Ryan stood.

"Hi," he smiled down at me. I looked up into his eyes, searching for what, I'm not sure. All I could see were more freckles I've never noticed before and how adorable he looked wearing his damn trucker hat I hate with his curly hair sticking out beneath it.

"Hey," I breathed, suddenly shy and wishing I could ask him the question burning through my mind. "Umm," I started to say but he cut me off.

"Wanna grab lunch? Kick off isn't for another couple of hours."

"Oh, you're going to the game?" I looked at his guitar and back up to him. "I didn't expect you to be the sportsman type."
"There's a lot you don't know about me, Stella, can't just assume things."

"Oh." I was struck with what he said.

"Don't worry about it! There's a lot I don't know about you, relax. Lunch?" He must have noticed the change in my stature at what he said. He was certainly quick on his feet and I appreciated that. I think if I thought about what he said I would taken it wrong and left.

"As long as you're buying!" I smiled, brushing past him towards the pub down the street.

I tried to keep my smile at bay and prayed he couldn't hear my heart beating out of my chest as he fell into step beside me. I reminded myself I had a plan, and the only reason why I'm going to lunch with him is because of the kiss. I had to know why.

That was the only reason.

I cannot fall for Ryan Blaney after one kiss.

Nope.
