Baekhyun heaved a heavy breath as he put down, or more like, threw away the bags across the floor of the living room. Sehun flicked the lights on and stretched. Noise could be heard of metal clunking and cupboards slamming as Chanyeol and Chen were looking around in the kitchen. Most of the members headed to their rooms to lie down or shower. Finally, after another bustling week all around Asia, EXO was back at their dorm.

Their manager, Youngjin, called the boys. "I know, I'm sorry it's late. But we have a new team waiting for you to be introduced. Come over here, everyone." It was received by several groans and complaints about aching backs and killing head aches but they eventually did gather.

A group of eleven people entered. Most of them looked a little weary from all the waiting, but otherwise, supported large smiles. Youngjin, who was their overall personal manager, said, "We have three new hairstylists, all fresh graduates and tested to perfection." Three girls in their mid-twenties stepped forward and bowed. "Four costume designers. I am sure you are familiar with them. They've worked here before too."

Jongdae nodded and winked at one of them. "Oh, I see you here again." The girl he was pointing at smiled. "Yes, I was your assistant designer for your winter album."

Youngjin continued. "We have four sales managers." The men came into view and bowed slightly. Kai grinned, "Gosh, I have seen you around here before I even auditioned!"

Jiseok smiled politely, "That's because we've been serving SM for a long time." Jung stood behind him, adjusting his tie anxiously now and then.

Youngjin nodded and went on and on about how skilled these people were at their work and that SM has provided the group with an expert and most efficient supporting staff. Sehun rolled his eyes boringly, clicking on the 'send' button. He'd thought over the text message through the flight from Indonesia to SK. It sounded good enough to send her.

Youngjin nodded at the boys. Suho spoke the customary words of welcome and gratitude, he was so used to saying it that it came out before even processing. That how much the group was grateful to have such an amazing support staff and they hoped to work together as a team in order to produce better results etc. etc.

"We're looking forward to working with you!" Lay bowed.

The others nodded. Chanyeol smiled, "Thanks for your efforts. Fighting!"

Before they could leave, Jiseok spoke again, "My team and I are anticipating to work with you. I hope we can develop a good understanding and cooperate with each other. Your additional choreographers and vocal trainers will meet you tomorrow early morning."

Suho smiled and thanked him. As he left, Baekhyun tilted his chin at the door pointedly, "He's the one, isn't he? Red Velvet's discarded manager?"

The leader yawned, entering the washroom. "I think so too."

"Didn't know they'd take him back." Jongdae commented.

"What? Where?" Sehun looked up from his phone in surprise.

Xiumin chuckled, clapping his back, "You really are tired, aren't you?"

By the time he had showered, changed, and had had a cup of bubble tea, his phone became alive again. It was her.

Sehun looked around to check and thanked god that it was just him in the living room. Except for Lay hyung who had dozed off on the couch while watching TV. He opened the chat, expecting Somin's address. It read:

 I have no address.

Sehun frowned. What the hell. Massaging his brows, he quickly typed, I'm not joking.

Somin replied in an instant. I'm a homeless person.

He could actually feel the edges of his lips turning up, no matter how pissed off he was. Somin was playing around but he wouldn't be lying if he said he didn't know already that she would do that. Rolling his eyes, Sehun wrote: I am serious, Somin.

okay, if we're being so straight then I'll ask away. Why do you need my address?

Sehun's lips zipped in a thin line. Yes, that's a valid question Sehun, why should she give you her address when you don't have a solid and concrete reason to meet her?

He didn't reply and went to bed sullenly.

-

"Are you waiting for an important call?" Eunwoo asked tentatively. He had been studying Somin's body language for some time now and something was surely fishy about the way she was distracted.

She looked up, "Huh?"

He pointed his head at her phone questioningly, it was sitting on the coffee table and hadn't even done anything close to ringing since Eunwoo came to her place but she was still carrying it around with her protectively like a mother kangaroo carried her infant. The way her eyes darted towards it after every few minutes didn't pass unnoticed by him. Somin laughed nervously, "Haha, no I'm just hoping I don't miss my manager's call. Actually, she's really pissed off at me lately so I have to be extra careful."

Eunwoo nodded uncertainly. Liar.

As soon as she woke up, she went to fetch Leo from his animal care center, skyped with her brother during breakfast that stretched on for two hours and just as she was about to leave to get groceries, Eunwoo showed up saying Seungmin wanted him to parcel some documents to Shanghai which is why he was here. Somin found that a little strange but she didn't let it bother her... because certain things already did bother her. Like how he came across my number?

As he rummaged inside his friend's study desk, Eunwoo could hear her humming in the kitchen. After a while, he realized it was her own song. With small steps, he neared the door frame and peered at her. Somin looked happy, swaying her body along with the trendy beat singing along in a slow voice. She seemed to be doing the dishes but right now it looked more like splashing water on the floor and the marble counter. A smiled curled upon his lips, he folded his arms and leaned against the door frame watching her intently.

As Somin turned around, her eyes met him. Instead of blushing, she grinned and trotted near him. The music blasting from her phone  wasn't very loud but Eunwoo doubted if he'd hear it if even a speaker was connected because his accelerating heartbeat blocked every kind of noise as she took his hands and squealed, "Come on, dance with me!"

He laughed merrily, copying her movements as she closed her eyes, twirling her shoulders singing, "You're gold baby..." She bumped her abdomen with him playfully. His cat-like eyes, full of adoration, fixed on her. Eunwoo linked his voice in between, "You're solid gold baby so don't even dare to think otherwise!"

Somin's face glowed with delight. It was for these little moments that he longed to be near her, see her every day. Her cat mewled, enhancing the beat. She was chanting, "You're my baby, I'm your lady--"

Her phone 'dinged' on the kitchen counter as she almost jumped, her eyes springing open. Eunwoo's little bubble burst as the warmth of her hands abandoned him. Somin raced to her cell phone and her face immediately scrunched in disappointment on seeing it. "Oh.."

Eunwoo narrowed his eyes. He opened his mouth to comment but she quickly whirled evidently composing herself and opened the refrigerator. "Okay, so.. um we have half a bottle of raspberry scotch, a carton of soju, a Hoddeok packet, and... instant rice." She looked back at him. "There's also a box of chocolates in my room. What are you in the mood for?"

He rolled his eyes. You. "Just bring the scotch."

She poured the drink in two glasses. His inspecting gaze scanned her like a detective and it made her more troubled than she was. Playing music to calm down her nerves was good until it didn't work because she felt that it felt like dance practice when it's supposed to be a break. Eunwoo was halfway down with his drink when she broke the silence, "Don't look at me like that."

Amusement filled his eyes, "Like what?"

"Like Seungmin does whenever I introduce him to a boyfriend." Somin looked away. "He glares at me so disapprovingly like he wants to punch me into the next century."

He chuckled, leaning on his tulip chair, "That's because those punks you dated are always from another world. Too freaky."

She rolled her eyes, "Aish, you guys never get it. Sooyoung understands me."

"Believe me, she is lying."

"Nah." Somin shook her head disapprovingly. "I mean, I never asked you people to date him, all Seungmin needs to is smile, nod, and say ' be happy lil' sis', but he's always so snobby whenever--"

"That's because those fools don't deserve you." Eunwoo shook his head.

She was silent for a while, then an uncertain smile jumped on her lips, "Well, I promise someone better this time."

He raised his eyebrow, "So, that's what this is all about?"

Somin avoided his gaze and picked their empty glasses but Eunwoo grabbed her wrist, his eyes boring into hers. "Seriously, Som?"

She laughed, breaking his grip, "What's got into you?!"

Eunwoo's face fell and his stomach flipped. He couldn't believe it, couldn't absorb it. This wasn't the first time he felt this. It was such a familiar feeling of dejection, knocking once again on his poor heart. It was happening to him again. There was another guy where he should have been.

She threw him a glance when he didn't reply and kept staring in distance. Somin nudged him, "Come on, I was joking."

He forced a smile. "Yeah. Stop lying. Isn't that what's got you so worked up?"

Somin chewed her lower lip. It wouldn't hurt to tell him, right? I mean he's a friend, there's no way he'll tell anyone. The mischievous glint sparkling in her eyes confirmed Eunwoo's fears. Masking the pained look in his eyes, he mumbled, "Who is it this time?"

"Nothing serious, I swear."

"Who is it?" His voice was louder.

"I told you, it's not even there!" Somin reasoned with him. It's no use saying anything, she realized. I'm talking as if anything even exists between Sehun and I. Gosh, he hasn't even replied to my text yet!

"Damn, Somin why do you do this?!" The frustration slipped in his tone this time as he snapped.

"Aigoo, don't tell me you're going to report this to Seungmin Oppa now." Her eyes narrowed.

Eunwoo clenched his jaw, getting up from his chair. Grabbing the documents and plastic folders containing certificates from the coffee table, his eyes suddenly met an expensive-looking denim jacket dangling on a hanger in the living room. The pockets were zipped and small red and yellow motifs embroidered on it showed it was branded perhaps. It, no doubt, belonged to a guy and he knew for sure it wasn't her brother's. Eunwoo sighed. The way it swung there, mightily mocking his unpretentious condition, it wasn't hard to figure out that it really did belong to someone big this time.

Is he already coming here? Did Somin let him so close? did he stay last night too...probably, an idol, is he? He shook his head bitterly, reaching for his sneakers. And what am I? A rookie?
He needed to get away from her. Something he'd tried for years.

You got no chance Eunwoo, no chance.

"Are you leaving?" She asked.

He tied his shoelaces and nodded tightly. She followed him, "Oh..your work is done... already?"

"Yeah." He reached for the door. "Bye."

"But you said you'll tell me about your group's web drama, right?" Somin felt guilty, she could tell somewhere in between, she'd pissed him off.

"Later." Eunwoo shut the door making her sigh loudly.

Around six in the evening, as Somin laid her head back on the comfy stylist's chair, she was sure Sehun was ignoring her text message. Yeah, sure he could be busy, hell he was EXO after all, but there's no way you couldn't find two minutes for yourself if you wanted to, Somin knew that.

So, either he's ignoring me or doesn't have an answer... did he ask any connection for my number? "Ow!" She screamed when the hair straightener's heat reached her forehead. The hairdresser muttered an apology.

Across the mirror, she could see the curls bouncing on Jae's head and the dark blue dye on Rio. It suited her vibrant personality well. There was a hustle-bustle in the big dressing room. Staff workers were milling in and out and the managers fretting over every tiny detail. "Done."

Somin thanked her stylist and got up to meet with the costume designer who was already busy with Saebyul. "You know, this kind of reminds me of high school."

Jae eyed her drowsily. "You had a whole team to fix you up without taking your choice into consideration?"

"No." Somin rolled her eyes. "I mean, when I was in high school there used to be many contests, plays and dramas. I remember some singing competitions... and talent hunts. We used to get ready backstage like this." She sighed, as her stylist placed different outfits to decide the best one.

Saebyul shook her head, "My father never let me go to the stage to perform."

Rio scoffed. "I never made it to any of those."

"There was this beauty pageant." Somin grinned. "Sooyoung forced me to take part in it with her, but I love her for doing that. It was really tough though, my opponents were all older and beautiful."

Ariya closed her eyes, stretching in a relaxed manner. "But you won?"

"Duh, of course. Why else do you think she would brag like that?" Saebyul laughed scornfully.

Somin glared at the leader from the mirror. "It wasn't easy."

Rio's eyes were wide and excited. "What rounds did you go through?"

"There were many." She said. "Cooking challenge, catwalk, sports contest, makeup-in-a-minute things like those. And quizzes! Oh those awful trivia I never survived."

Jae laughed, "I bet you spent your whole teenage in front of a mirror."

Somin winked. "More or less. I never was a big fan of studying."

Saebyul smiled smugly, plucking in her tear-shaped earrings. "I was the best in my class."

"And I never saw eye to eye with that kind of people," Somin noted. She turned to Rio. "You know, there was this last round of pageant where we had to perform or sing. I sang and my boyfriend played the guitar. It was the best day of my--"

Jae groaned, "Somebody shut her up."

"My ears are bleeding." Ariya rolled her eyes.

Rio giggled, "Wow, that must be so romantic."

"It was!"

"Somin, stand straight." The costume designer complained.

The girl stood upright quickly. Rio gasped as if a naughty thought popped in her mind just then. "Oh, that reminds me of something." She skipped closer to Somin when the staff was out of earshot, her eyes were full of hope. "Do me a favor, please, Somin, I beg you!" She whispered, careful not to let others hear her.

"What?"

She leaned in closer, so close that her head touched Somin's. "I found out which gym Chanyeol goes to!" She said it as if it was a top-secret, like the winning code of a lottery.

"So?" She raised an eyebrow.

"What do you mean, so?!" She jabbed. "I want to join that gym too. Let's do that Somin, please!"

"Why are you asking me?" Somin made a face. "Look at me, do I need to work out?" She opened her arms in question. "And you don't either so--"

"It's not about working out! I lose calories just seeing him anyway." Rio shook her head, counting on her fingers. "Saebyul unnie would never approve. Ariya unnie doesn't have the guts and you know Jae, she's too lazy." She showed her puppy eyes and blinked rapidly.

"Don't play cute with me."

"Come on, look I am not asking you to fangirl over him. I've found the exact location and other information. Just go with me, do all the membership process, and.. you never know we might bump into him." Rio grinned.

Somin sighed. She might have complied if it was an EXO member she knew, Sehun for example but this was too much. Her phone vibrated. Somin took a step back and read the much-awaited reply from him, Never mind.

She made a face. Okay fine, just watch, you're never getting my address, she thought.

"Somin?" Rio asked but Mr. Lee entered the room with an envelope in his hands. "Girls, congratulations!"

Jae glanced at him, "Another nomination?"

He shook his head. "No. Your first pay."

Ariya gasped, standing abruptly from her chair. It was followed by a scolding from her hairstylist who was currently braiding her hair. Everybody smiled and grouped around their manager who distributed the enveloped containing cheques.

Somin was expecting cash but when she ripped open the crisp white envelope, her mouth fell in a frown. This was the first time she'd even heard or seen money since her debut. Aurora had gone totally un-paid for the first six months after the debut. CUBE had told them they'd get a healthy amount after they were stabilized a bit. But seeing the 45,000 won she'd earned was not acceptable.

Saebyul scowled, "I hope this is the first installment?"

Their manager shook her head, "No, it's for your previous months. From now on, a regular income will be deposited in your accounts."

Rio's brows met in confusion. "But this is not..." She looked around at each of her member's mirrored expressions. "Enough."

Somin nodded, "That's right. I mean, did you guys even consider our working hours? Our album sales? We don't have many members so--"

"I'm sorry, girls. I'm not CUBE's cashier, and neither do I decide what percent you get. I was only asked to deliver it to you." Mr. Lee answered firmly.

"But it's not fair!"

"Get back to your places, recording starts in an hour." He closed the door behind him.

Ariya just stood staring into space. She'd been dreaming about her first income for years. And who wouldn't when you've lived in such a backward town, brought up in a financially challenged household. This was supposed to be her dream moment, the feeling of being self-sufficient. Tears welled up in her eyes at the harsh reality they all faced.

"This doesn't even pay half of my debts..." Saebyul uttered.

Somin sighed angrily, "I have half a mind to go to the head office right now and set their minds straight!" Jae smirked, "Huh, my mother wouldn't even let you past the doors if she hears this."

Ariya sobbed lightly. "What do I do? I--I wanted to send gifts to my family, to my brothers.. they ask for things whenever I call them. How am I supposed to tell them I don't earn enough even to support myself here?"

Saebyul nodded sadly, massaging her member's shoulders. "It will get better, don't worry."

"But when!" Ariya's voice broke down. "I can't wait around my whole life to earn enough to go home..I haven't-" She wiped her tears and the girls closed in on her in sympathy. "I haven't even seen my family for four years.."

Somin gulped, "I'm serious we should talk it over with the agency. I'll do it if you guys just allow me!"

Jae sighed, "Oh quiet down, I've seen how my mother works all my life. They would never go easy because of such a pity excuse. We'll just end up with a lecture about perseverance and patience for a better future in music."

Ariya bit her lip, glaring at her cheque. "I didn't leave my county, my family, my sick father because of this. I don't stay up all night for 45,000 won for six months!"

Rio looked at her earnestly. "Unni, you can take half of mine. I don't have many expenses."

Ariya smiled. "It's not just about me, it's about all of us." She heaved a huge breath. "And what do you mean by no expenses? Aren't you going to buy EXO's new album?" She teased the maknae.

They expected Rio to gasp in realization and take back her offer but she still stood firm. "You guys come before everything."

Somin, Jae, and Saebyul smiled at her, ruffling her hair. Aroya shook her head and let out a watery laugh. "Yah phabo, don't lie. I know you're dying to from inside. You think I haven't seen the treasure box you keep under your bed to save up for a concert?"

Rio blushed. "I swear it's--"

Somin screamed, "Shit, shit, Ariya you're the first on stage!" She pointed at the clock.

Saebyul groaned, "Guys, come on. We need to get ready."

They hugged the Japnese girl tightly and wandered off to their previous positions reluctantly, each girl carrying a heaviness in her heart, a whirlwind of emotion in her body with anger leading, a storm brewing in their minds. This was harder than they had expected. Life was a bitch, to all of them.

-

Somin walked briskly across the fenced gardens, sides of which adorned clusters of jasmines and bushes on which bright coral berries hung. Pulling the sides of her oversized shirt in her fists, she hung her head low though it was already concealed with the face mask. The moon shone brightly over the blocked buildings.

With hesitance, she viewed her surroundings. There were swings, seesaws, and a merry-go-round on the small green patch of land on her left where she reckoned the children played in the morning. A board hung on the entrance which had the words 'Inaugurated on: 5th December, 2005' embedded over it. Somin stopped abruptly before it and stared at it. The pain was still fresh in her memory.

With great effort, she carried on her walk and entered. Making her way to the reception desk, Somin wished that her purpose would be attained. She adjusted her cap and smiled at the woman over the desk. "Hi, I'd like to make a donation."

The woman stopped typing and raised an eyebrow. "Sorry, it's not general working hours, especially on the weekend."

"Oh."

"You should come tomorrow, we'll give you a tour and you can meet our manager perhaps. Maybe see the children and--"

"No, that's okay." She shook her head. "I'm not free tomorrow anyway so..."

The woman's eyebrows met in confusion. "Are you sure? I cannot register your name under the donators if you don't complete the process."

Somin sighed in relief. She couldn't believe her lucky stars, this was the exact situation she'd hoped she would land in. Make it smooth and silent. She smiled, "That's great. I actually want to donate anonymously. Don't mention my name anywhere."

The woman nodded, "Yes, as you prefer, ma'am. I'll help you with it."

She brought a form which Somin filled quickly. Her whole being became tense whenever she came here. But after getting her first pay today, Somin knew the orphanage needed a visit. It was the least she could do. Even after transferring one-third of her income in the orphanage's donation bank account, the uneasy feeling in her chest didn't subside.

"Thank you ma'am." The woman smiled gratefully after the deposit was made. "I hope you'll visit again, I'm sure the children would love to see you."

Somin pressed a tight smile. The woman handed her a brochure as she was about to leave and that brochure sucked the life out of her lungs. It had an artistic picture of the tragic earthquake rubble that took place in 2005, it's entire history... the death toll, the survivors, the aid from the people and government to build up the building back into an orphanage as a token of respect for the casualties. An orphanage that majorly took in children who'd had traumatic pasts, who survived devastating catastrophes but their families couldn't, children left behind after tragic natural disasters.

Her hands were shaking as they held it, her eyes froze on the brochure and it triggered a series of flashes before her eyes. The ear-piercing screams, blood everywhere, ringing sirens, cries of pain, the thundering crash of the wreckage, panic on every face... Sohee's innocent tear-stained face calling for Somin, her last words.

Somin flinched when the receptionist's hand tapped her. She looked concerned and opened her mouth to ask. Somin's face was filled with terror, she couldn't stop her brain from erasing those voices, those images. Ignoring everything she took a run for her life, racing past the double doors to escape. She bolted past everything and everyone that came in her way with no sense of direction, the staff workers looking at her weirdly. It was only when her legs gave up and the monstrous voices in her head faded after a few minutes that she halted.

Bending on her knees, she panted. Somin looked up after a minute to her surroundings. Her stomach did a somersault. She'd brought herself in exactly the same place that was a nightmare to her. The place which she dreaded.

Apparently, when the orphanage was being constructed from the remains, some portion had been left behind as it is. That portion, set apart with the help of a cord railing, served as a reminder for the loss people suffered, in terms of life and property. Tears welled up in her eyes and Somin gulped, silently watching her surroundings.

Debris, relics, and ruin littered the floor. Rust-colored patches of blood could be seen, some items like notebooks and ripped pieces of cloth were also peeking from behind the remains. Somin dropped to her knees. She stripped off her mask and cap. Tears streamed across her cheeks but she dare not make a sound, oh no she couldn't cry in front of anyone.

Looking at the small slip in her hand where the donation amount was written as a confirmation, she sniffed. "I'm sorry, Sohee."

She raked her fingers in her hair and whispered. "I'm so sorry, I did what I could. It's not enough, hell I know it's never going to be enough but..." She pressed her eyes tightly as warm tears formed and flowed. Her chest heaved up and down as the memory of Sohee's face, her angelic voice, and sweet smiles stung her heart.

Sometimes she hated how her life had turned out to be. And with time, it was getting worse. The last time she'd been here was five years ago and that was when her mother was beside Somin to hold her. Being here alone made everything more scarier, more real. A sweet reminder of how it was ten years ago... just her and Sohee in the wrecked place.

"I'm so sorry."

-

"Yah, hyung! I told you I shouldn't come on a Sunday!" Sehun massaged the bridge of his nose irritatedly with one hand, the other holding his phone over his ear. "They can't accept it."

The leader's apologies began. Sehun shook his head and looked around. He was sure the place was about to close down soon, by the look of everyone packing up their stuff. The woman at the reception looked a little sorry for refusing to accept their donation at the time. The last time he'd come here was a morning and there was the cheery noise made by children of all ages, playing, studying and running around. Tonight, there was just an eerie silence.

"And I've even brought the amount in cash." He spoke. "What am I supposed to do with it now?"

"Is there a bank nearby?" Suho wondered.

"I guess so."

"Then just deposit it back in your account for the time being. We'll send manager hyung sometime to do this for us."

Sehun nodded and hung up. He'd driven a whole half an hour to come to this place because Suho insisted they shouldn't postpone it further. The receptionist bowed, he nodded at her and left. This place was daunting without any children, good thing they converted it into such a lively place, he thought.

Sehun strolled out from the back door, gazing at the small playgrounds and hostels, it was the city's biggest orphan house. He intended to turn to the parking lot, but a weird interruption caught his attention. He frowned and walked towards the source. He didn't have to struggle much because in some distance, he saw a body crouching on the floor. It was shaking like the person was either crying or laughing. What's going on? I thought they had a curfew for children.

But considering the seriousness of the tragedy site made him doubt if someone was going to come here and laugh. He shoved his hands in his pockets and stopped there. Sehun couldn't tell if it was a man or woman because whoever it was came covered well. Is it one of the children? Are they mourning for someone here?

His heart pained when the person let out a faint sob. He considered walking over to them. But what am I supposed to say to a person I don't know? Can I even comfort them?  Curiously, he stepped forward. He felt a twinging sensation as he gazed at whoever it was, Musn't it be really painful to lose a loved one this way?

His foot collided with the pillar when he attempted to take a closer loo making him groan, "Ow!"

Chills ran through Somin's body when she heard that sound. Whipping back, she spotted a guy holding his foot, her eyes widened. Quickly she got up from the floor, wiping her face and gathered her things.

Sehun raised his head and saw the person going away, now he could tell it was a girl. She was elder than most children here, probably above legal age too... do they take such entries too? Poor child, he thought. I hope I didn't frighten her. With great courage, Sehun pranced over the fence and spoke, "Hey, excuse me?

The girl stopped and tilted her head in question. He noted how she was intent on not showing her face. His expression filled with pity and he mumbled, "I'm sorry for frightening you. You can stay here.."

Somin's eyes widened in horror. What the actual fuck. What is that voice doing over here? Am I imagining it? Just to check, she risked a glance and there he stood. In all his glory, looking confused and sorry for the first time, Oh sehun.

Sorry. Gosh, she hated that word. Somin hated it when she had to use it but it was worse when somebody felt it for her. When they pitied her, thinking what a poor, pathetic soul she was. It was the last thing she wanted others to think about her.

Hurriedly adjusting her mask, she sprinted from the opposite way again. Behind her, she heard shuffling feet and hoped he wasn't following her. The thought of Oh Sehun, the guy before whom she wanted to set a good, fit image, witness her in such a weak state made the hairs on her arm stand up.

Thankfully, she didn't get lost this time and somehow made her way to the parking lot, still hoping he didn't recognize her. Or else this night would be a total disaster.

-

Somebody tell me, why is Nam Somin crying here like that? And then why did she run away as if she saw a ghost, seriously what is wrong with that girl? She never seemed like the crying type to me.

Sehun couldn't fathom what could possibly make her feel this way. As Somin made a run for her life, he realized it was useless to go after her so he just stood there looking at the disaster site where she was sitting previously. He stayed there for a long time trying to tell himself that his eyes had probably deceived him, that because he's been thinking about her since morning is the reason why he mistook someone else as Somin.
But it was her, no doubt.

His mind was bursting with questions. Yes, it made sense if they crossed paths somewhere else but this was the last place he expected to see her. Her throbbing sobs echoed in Sehun's ears heightened his remorse.

Maybe the strong, invulnerable, and flawless Nam Somin wasn't that strong after all.

-

As soon as she entered the back seat of the cab, her phone buzzed with messages. One look at it made her curse her luck because she recognized the unknown number.

What were you doing at the orphanage just now?
It was you... wasn't it?
Look, will you just answer me.
Somin??

I saw you, alright so stop ignoring me.
Yah?!

Somin sighed. She'd failed in concealing her identity no matter how hard she worked at choosing the right time. Silencing her phone, she laid back her head. By the time she reached her apartment, she'd received four missed calls from her manager, six from Sehun.

"Oh shit.." She quickly dialed her manager's number. "Yes?"

"Where are you? Do you know it's forbidden to ignore your manager's call?"

She sighed, "I had some business to attend."

"Well be back quick and before 11! Because you have a lot of explaining to do." Her voice sounded deadly.

"I'm not coming back to the dorm tonight. I'll stay at my place." Somin replied.

"You can't, without permission."

"Who's permission?" She asked. "It's my house."

She heard a strangled voice from the other side, "I mean you can't spend the night out without my permission."

Somin groaned, sometimes she felt that her agency was trying to suffocate her. Make her run away from everything one day. Can't a girl feel like being on her own for one night? "Look, I'm not feeling well right now. Please unnie--"

"I said no, Somin and that is final." Her manager sounded terse. "You have your first recording of Idol Radio tomorrow anyway." She hung up.

Somin clenched her jaw and screamed in frustration, kicking the wall. Her eyes felt moist again.

-

The next day, she woke up to the sound of loud music. Squinting her eyes, she looked around and noticed Jae's bed empty. Reluctantly Somin pulled herself out of her bed and stumbled to the living room. Rio was squealing and giggling and jumping ... all at the same time. How can a body feel so much, Somin couldn't understand. But she didn't try either.

"Turn it down, will you?" Saebyul called from the kitchen.

Rio just scowled and increased the volume. Ariya entered the room, yawning widely and raised an eyebrow upon seeing Somin, "Geez, go and wear something."

The younger girl looked down at her sleeveless baggy shirt and underwear, she grinned, "Nahh, it's hot."

"Of course it will be if you walk around like this."

Saebyul rolled her eyes, "You got a crush on her, Ari?"

Ariya chuckled, clutching her heart dramatically, "Oh, yes! I'm blindly in love with the great Nam Somin."

"Sorry to break your heart but..." Somin shook her head solemnly. "I'm into guys."

Speaking of which, it reminded her of last night's episode. She checked her phone and her throat tightened when she saw the endless messages. Aish, he wasn't even replying to me yesterday, and gosh...look at this boy today.

Somin smirked, boy you gotta try harder. Locking her phone with the trickiest password she could think of, she ignored each of Sehun's calls and texts, tossing her phone aside.

"What are you watching?" She asked Rio who looked up with a wild expression.

"EXO dropped a new music video today." Her eyes were gleaming, her cheeks flushed red. To Somin, it just sounded like metal parts clunking noisily, glass shattering too many drop beats. But she kept the comments to herself, knowing that the maknae might skin her if dared.

"God, it's so so good, I think I am going to cry!" Rio blinked back tears with a hazy smile.

"Don't!" Saebyul warned. "I don't want chinky eyes and a red nose on today's broadcast!"

"Will I ever be able to know any of them personally one day?" Rio wondered with a sigh. Somin's lips curled up in a smile and she leaned forward near the maknae and whispered, "If you're so desperate, I'll go to that gym with you."

"Really??" Rio gasped, sitting up quickly and knocking the water jug on the coffee table as she did.

Somin nodded, and she made her way to the bathroom for a shower. By the time, Aurora was halfway done with Idol Radio, it was lunchtime so their managers brought them their regular cheese-free hamburgers and diet coke as they settled in the dressing room.

Jae chomped noisily, bits of food flying around as she spoke, "I shouldn't have answered it that way. Do you think the agency might get in trouble for that?"

"No idea." Saebyul looked unsure, "Seriously, we need to stop these MCs asking questions about your relationship with your mother."

"Somebody must have ticked them off that there is something wrong." Ariya reasoned. "Or otherwise, who in their right mind would question a mother's love?"

"I would!" Jae raised her hand. "After what happened to me, I'll always question a mother's love."

The others just shook their head. Somin spoke, "Isn't it getting better, Jae? I mean, I thought you were enjoying it now..."

She shrugged, "I'd run away today if I had a chance. But where can I turn to? Go back home?" She sipped her coke. "That's when I realize that what I really want to escape is not you guys or my career. It's my dear mother." Jae smiled sadly. "And wherever I go, she's there."

Saebyul felt hurt hearing her talk like this. She looked away after throwing Jae an icy look. "It's funny how the one thing I've always wanted in the world, is what you want to get rid of. Sounds ungrateful to me."

An awkward silence suspended between them. Somin coughed and blurted out. "So... um.. did anybody see me at this month's W Korea?"

Rio leaned in her and whispered with big eyes, "When did you cover that? I didn't see you."

Somin rolled her eyes, answering in a hushed tone. "That's because I didn't. Idiot, I'm just trying to.." She sighed and pointed at the other two girls, nudging Rio for help when it didn't work.

She perked up, understanding quickly and said, "EXO just turned the airport to a fashion show, anybody wanna see their pictures. Let's drool together?"

Somin slapped her forehead.

Jae narrowed her eyes, "Ungrateful? What is that supposed to mean?"

"I'll show you guys!" Rio nervously laughed, trying to break the tension.

Saebyul shrugged modestly, "You might as well have stood up for your dreams if you planned to weep the rest of your life."

"Unnie!" Ariya gasped and Somin's eyes widened. Rio quickly clicked open the folder on her phone, placing the phone on the table to show others. But nobody's eyes fell on it, it might have always cooled down the fangirl but the same wasn't the case with others, as they nervously stared at the two elder girls who seemed to be having a glaring contest.

"Oh yeah?" Jae laughed humorlessly, sitting relaxedly in her seat and folded her arms. "And what did you get by doing that?"

Saebyul narrowed her eyes to a thin slit. "I got this." She pointed aimlessly in the air. Ariya gulped and held Saebyul's other hand to quiet her down.

Jae raised a brow. "Oh, very nice. Running away from your family in the dead of the night, leaving them when they needed you, trusted you..." She clapped slowly with a mocking smirk. "You sure got a lot."

Saebyul's jaw clenched as she rose to her feet, fire burning in her eyes.  Yes, she knew what she did was unacceptable but she wouldn't have others rub that into her face. Jae stood too, abandoning her burger. Saebyul hissed. "You--"

Somin pulled the leader back before things could escalate. Ariya mumbled, "Stop."

"What?" Jae threw Saebyul a questioning look. "You might think again before calling me ungrateful next time."

"Seriously, Shut up!" Somin's voice raised. "This isn't our dorm, we're at a public place. Control yourselves."

The two of them moodily walked away, one outside the room and the other to the restroom. Ariya sighed loudly when they were out of earshot. "Woahh...that was close."

Rio pouted, "I hope they get back on better terms. These arguments really scare me."

Ariya smiled and squeezed the maknae's shoulder gently, "Don't worry. They're both sensible girls, they'll find away."

Somin fell quiet when her eyes dropped to Rio's cell phone on the glass table. The screen was brightened by a picture that caught her attention. Slowly she bent down and picked it up, her eyes glued on the guy.

A small smile sneaked on her lips and color rose to her cheeks. Who else can pull off a plain back tee and simple jeans like that? Of course, Somin knew, Sehun was gorgeous but actually seeing him tugged her heartstrings. She was chewing on her lower lip when Rio appeared from her side and giggled, "See? Ain't they bewitching?"

Somin chuckled, "Sure they are."

And what the hell am I doing ignoring a fine man like him?

"I bet he spends his whole day working out if he's got a body like that," Ariya commented.

Non-commitantly, Somin shrugged. She picked her burger and settled on a chair at a corner of the dressing room so she could have her privacy. She switched on her phone and after little contemplation, she decided to reply to his questions.

wow you worry like my brother.

Oh look who decided to reply.

I was busy.
So do you make it a habit of stalking me in your free time?

What?

I mean, there's no way we just 'bumped' last night randomly.

Of course, we did. You think I am gonna spend my free time following you around?

You might want to take back those words later.

We'll see.
So did you come to visit the children?

No, for donation.

They didn't accept a donation from me ._.

Somin was in the middle of typing back when their manager announced 'break over' and they had to get back to recording. After the show was over and Aurora tiredly piled in their minivan, she settled in the seat at the corner.

Don't you want your jacket back?

Yes please, my stylist has been scolding me since last night for misplacing it.

Then maybe I should keep it :D

If you're willing to pay for it.

How much is it for?

Worth just a drink.

Somin's mouth dropped. She raised a brow wondering exactly where this was going. Taking a deep breath, she replied.

You have a funny way of asking to see me.

Was that a yes?

I can put it up for auction though...

Auction? Seriously? I'm offended.

...and become a millionaire, retire from Kpop and settle in a nice house beside the beach in LA...

lmao you think my jacket is going to support you your whole life?

You have a point. I'll have to steal some more stuff from you.
Maybe your phone or something?

And do you plan to do that while avoiding to meet me?

I am trying ;P

So it's a no?

Yup.

Okay.
Great.
I want my jacket back.

Knew you'd come around lol.

I want it now.

yah, you didn't even ask for it until I reminded you.

Now.

okay, okay fine. Should I parcel it to you?

Nopes, come here to return it.

She chuckled. He was going to make her meet him one way or another and although she had ways to avoid it, turning off her phone, for example, Somin realized she didn't want to do that anymore. She didn't want to hold back.

Here? Your dorm?

No are you crazy. I have other places.
So are you up for it?

I guess so.

Cool.

-

Sehun reached earlier. But he didn't mind waiting.
After texting her the cafe address owned by his childhood friend and deciding upon a time, late at night, of course, he'd spent the rest of his time convincing Suho hyung to lend him his car and thinking of a good excuse because Sehun's own had a punctured a tire that morning.

He looked up when the bells hung at the door chimed. It was after-work hours so there wasn't anybody around. Her sharp eyes swept the entire course of the room. It was a small-scale coffee shop where numerous wooden tables and chairs were neatly arranged. Even the roof was made of pinewood, the interior wasn't fancy but it was comfortable enough that it almost looked like an indoor home restaurant. And she instantly approved of it. When those eyes met him, her shoulders relaxed. Somin tore off her mask as she sat across him.

It took him a moment to adjust her in his eyes. Her lips were painted in a sweet shade of pink and the messy bun on her head.

"You're late." Sehun's voice was terse.

"I know, I know. Rio, my bandmate accidentally reset the clock on my phone so..." Her hand moved aimlessly in the air to prove her point.

"You don't have your own watch to keep track?" He placed his folded arms on the table and leaned on them.

Somin sighed, "I did have one. I-I think I misplaced it in China or somewhere."

Sehun just smiled. She handed him a paper bag in which his jacket was neatly folded. He mocked a disgusted look as he saw it. "Oh shoot, I'll have to get it dry-cleaned."

She threw him an admonishing look. A waiter in a white apron made his way to their table and bowed. Somin thought she was going to take their order and was just about to refuse but to her surprise, Sehun had already ordered. The waiter greeted them and placed two plates of sizzling loaded fries.

Sehun carefully judged her reaction, she looked at him but didn't say anything. "So how did you get my number?"

"I thought you were clever." He commented.

"What?"

"Figure it out yourself."

Somin's brows joined in confusion. "I gave you my number at Vibe once but..."

"But what?"

She bit her lip. Now, I can't say that, can I?  "Nothing. Um.. okay I admit. Tell me?"

Sehun raised an eyebrow. "You dialed it from my phone at that time we were stuck."

"Ahh." Her eyes rolled back at her stupidity as her head fell on the table with a thud making him smile. He shifted in his seat. "So.. do you donate regularly there?"

"See, I told you, you stalked me." she wore a smug expression. Anything to avoid the dreaded topic.

Sehun threw her a seriously-not-again look. "You were crying."

All signs of amusement vanished from Somin's face. She leaned back in her seat and looked away. Great, now he sees me as some wimp too.

Sehun waited for her response but there came none. She avoided his eyes, suddenly interested in the view outside the window with a hard expression on her features. "Why were you crying?"

Somin's narrowed eyes rapidly shifted to his face. "You ask too many questions."

"Don't you have answers?"

"I do." Her mouth pressed into a thin line.

"Then?"

"I don't answer to you."

Sehun smirked and nodded. "Sure. You will." He licked the mayonnaise from the corner of his lips. "Soon."

Somin gazed at him for a moment, then broke the contact. "Anyways, umm... I'd rather you stay out of my business." she corrected. "Personal business."

Sehun raised a skeptical brow. "Too late. Why are you so secretive?"

"I'm not, I just..." She looked annoyed. "Look, stop it."

He fixed her with a long, confused stare. "I guess I can do that." He sighed. Whatever it is, it must be big. Big enough to make her confidence crumble, big enough to make her cry.

Sehun cleared his throat, commenting casually. "I think it might interest you to know that I'm leaving for France tomorrow. Paris, to be exact."

Somin's eyes lit up as she lifted her head with a big, surprised smile plastered on it. "France? Really!"

He nodded, "Yeah. There's some fashion show to attend. It's my first, I can't imagine how it will go." He pushed his plate aside. "And to make matters worse, I'm going alone. I mean, of course, a translator and a manager will accompany me but no members."

But Somin didn't look like she pitied him because her expression held nothing but eagerness topped off with a little envy. When he sighed sadly, she waved a dismissive hand. "Oh don't worry. It's France! You're going to love it there. It's..." She trailed off with a loss of words. "It's a beautiful place. You can roam around the artsy bridges and cafes, try the exquisite food."

"You've been there?" he asked.

She tipped her head a slight nod. "A lot when I used to be younger. Almost every other year. But the trips got less frequent after..." Somin paused. "After some time."

Somin went on excitedly, "And you have to try the Parisian metro, even though it's not the cleanest place." Her voice became higher and jumpier as she chatted non-stop. "There's a famous French sentence 'métro, boulot, dodo' which means 'subway, work, sleep'. It sums up their daily life."

Sehun looked at her fondly, he knew she would love to talk about it so he let her. "Go to Notre Dame if you have time. I'd say don't spend too much time around Eiffel Tower, you can find a better view."

"You know a lot about it," Sehun exclaimed. "Tell me, give me some tips."

She let out a short laugh, "What do you want to know? The language barrier would be a bother but I'm sure the translator wouldn't get things confusing. Though you might want to learn a few words to please the fans."

"Please the fans?" Sehun looked unsure.

"Yes." Her tone was accusing. "Your fans from all around the world learn Korean just to understand what you're saying and you can't even learn a few words to make them happy?"

Sehun's eyes widened and he laughed, raising his hands a little. "Woah, okay okay. If you put it like that then maybe. So will you have the honor of being my teacher..?"

"Ugh no." Somin scrunched her nose. "Ask your guide to do that."

"How about one line?"

"Let me think." She chewed on her lip. "Okay here's one: 'cet endroit pue vraiment'."

Sehun burst into a fit of laughter, "What does that even mean?!"

"It means, 'I enjoy being here'. It's not hard, come on, speak after me." Though Somin didn't intend to, she still ended up teaching Sehun the phrase until he was at least understandable.

Glancing at his Rolex, he said, "Wait a minute." He got up and walked out of the cafe, only to return a few minutes later with a white dog trailing behind him. Somin gasped. "Where did he come from?"

Sehun explained, "I asked a friend to drop him here." He bent down and ran fingers through his soft fur. "Vivi needs a walk. Do you mind?"

Somin thought for a minute. "It's not safe..."

He shook his head, "We'll just take rounds of the back yard. Nobody would see."

His voice was persuasive and his expression so confident that she had to comply. As the warm summer air hit them, they felt a soothing sensation travel through their veins. "What are you planning to wear? Most French are very judging about wardrobe, you know. If there's someone who knows their fashion, it's the French."

"I haven't taken a look at tomorrow's outfit yet but I trust my stylists. Leave that, just tell me how I should react." He assured her, adjusting Vivi's leash in his sweaty hands.

Somin found the fact of him being such a great artist and asking her for advice a little funny. Nevertheless, she didn't point that out knowing it would make him more nervous. "Stay poised. Cool. Like you've been doing this since you were five." She straightened her back with a whiff of pride. "Don't make it a big deal. That's what I would have done."

Sehun could tell that day wasn't very far when she'd be the one invited to French fashion weeks. With her strong fashion sense and especially the fact that she shared their nationality, she could be their best muse. He laughed. "Okay noted. What else?"

"Manners, gosh yes!" An old memory popped in her mind. "When I was nine, and we were visiting the Louvre Museum and I-I think I was fighting with my sister for something-"

"You have a sister? I didn't know." Sehun asked. "Is she an idol too?"

"No." Somin averted her gaze." Anyways, we were really loud I guess,  snatching something from each other and wreaking havoc."

"Don't tell me you knocked into an antique piece?"

She laughed. "Actually we did but not in the way you mean." He looked at her in question. She said, "We knocked into an old lady and-- oh my god, I can never forget the scolding we received from her and the museum police and my mother and practically everyone around us."

He mocked, "So being polite has always been a problem for you, hmm, I see."

She glared at him but went on. "Even a simple 'Bonjour, madame' will do wonders for your status. Talk softly. Focus more on smiling then conversating. Leave a good impression by staying properly mannered around everyone you meet at the soirée. " Somin's smile widened. "So that--"

"What did you say? Sorey?" He was baffled.

She chuckled. "Soirée. It means a fancy evening party."

Sehun nodded. "Ahh, go on."

"Like for example, if you want to impress, remember French girls always make an effort with how they dress, so complimenting them on their attire is a no brainer."

His eyes immediately traveled down to see what she wore. A red and white flannel shirt, jeans, and Nike sneakers. The only accessory he could make out was her usual charm bracelet. Sporty that I definitely pass off as trendy. "Okay next. Tell me more about impressing French girls."

"Umm... if you end up having a meal with them, make sure to order pastries if it's lunch." She winked, in her self-assured voice. "It's a kind of signature item, makes us feel that you know the culture."

"But if it's dinner?"

"Wine if it's night! Red wine preferably." Somin declared. "That's a must."

"I see." Sehun fished out his phone and typed something hastily.

"What did you do?" Somin asked curiously.

He shook his head. "Carry on."

"Try practicing a few phrases. We will appreciate if a guy cared enough to learn a bit of our native language." Somin said as he listened with concentration while they walked.

"Always wear a good perfume." She stated, holding her finger in the air. "Nothing is more seducing, I believe."

I can tell, he thought. Her scent was driving him crazy. Somin said, "And don't push her. Most of us take our time getting into a relationship, we don't rush like New yorkers."

Sehun had to bite the insides of his cheeks to suppress his smile. Does this girl even know what she's doing?

"Wait a second. Why am I giving you dating tips?" She laughed. "You're going for a fashion show, not to run an affair. Anyways, it's better not to get involved with a French girl so better drop it."

"Why not?" He frowned.

Somin smirked, giving him a side glance. "We always leave wanting for more." Her eyes were filled with a certain playfulness that made his stomach flip-flop. "And you look like an impatient guy." For a split second, she saw something dangerously inviting flash over his eyes.

His feet halted to a slow pace as he rounded on her, blocking her path. "Is that so?"

"Hmm." Somin folded her arms, looking up to hold his gaze. "We go by the rule 'less is more'. I don't think you can handle it". Her tone was challenging.

"I might if I like her enough." He answered with an equally amused tone.

Sehun couldn't even imagine himself having a conversation like this with any other girls he'd met all his life, the typical girls. Those who were shy and timid, who blushed, who were hesitant to make a move or hit on a guy. Even most of the female idols around him were like that. But Somin was different, you could never not be comfortable around her. You could never imagine what she's going to say next. You could never be anxious that you're too blunt because she always fired back. Somin's feisty attitude intrigued him.

Sehun's coy smile was making Somin question her strengths. Even though the only background provided was Vivi's occasional woofs or the general clamor of the cafe kitchen not too far away but she still felt ... unguarded in his presence. As if his eyes, that were illuminated by moonlight, could read everything running in her mind. Damn. Somin, control.

"Here are your drinks, sir."

Somin was startled when a waiter appeared again at the back yard, holding a round tray upon which a sparkly drink in two glass goblets were placed. Sehun picked both of the goblets and thanked him. He offered her one. Though she accepted it, the questions in her gaze were still there. They cheered silently, tinkling the goblets. It wasn't until Somin sipped the liquid that she realized.

Wine. Red wine.

A discreet smile crept upon her lips. "I didn't mean it for.. now. Or here." Though whatever she said, the fast beating of her heart couldn't be ignored. Sehun's gesture had touched her.

He jerked his shoulder casually. "I thought it was a must."

She laughed. "Yes, but when you're in Paris, not Seoul! When you want to impress Parisian girls." The strong, sour liquid burned her parched throat. "Hang on, are you trying to impress me?"

"Is it working?"

Somin didn't reply, just took her eyes off him and smiled in a way that held all his answers. She wished the darkness of the night would hide the dark color from her cheeks. Sehun smirked, and leaned in, "Maybe this will work." He fished in his pocket for a plastic packet and tossed it in her direction. "Surprise surprise."

She frowned at it. Then her mouth dropped in shock seeing her long-lost white banded wristwatch. "You had it with you all this time!"

He grinned. She unwrapped the cover squinted at the time. "It's working!"

"Of course it's working." Sehun wondered. "Do you think I'm going to return it to you while it's dysfunctional?"

She shook her head. "There's no way you fixed it yourself."

He coughed. "That doesn't matter. What matters is that it's working."

Somin smiled devilishly. "Tell me how it happened."

Sehun sighed. He pointed at the back of the metaled face of the watch. "It's a Harriot watch, you see? I looked up for their head office, it's in Incheon. I sent a man there to get it operational."

Somin faced him with astonishment but nodded speechlessly. "Um, thanks."

He rolled his eyes. "Don't act so grateful, doesn't really suit you."

She shook her head. "No really."

Sehun felt glad inwardly, she was hard to please but it was worth it. "Maybe it will help you to be on time the next time we meet."

Somin chuckled. Glancing at her newly retrieved wristwatch, she muttered, "It's almost ten thirty, I should go."

He nodded and made way for her to walk out, she adjusted her face mask and reached for the wooden door of the cafe. "Good luck for tomorrow. The public is friendly but not if you piss your pants from nervousness."

Sehun suppressed a laugh. "I'll keep that in mind."

"When will you be back?"

His eyes narrowed in mirth. "Why? Are you going to miss me?"

Somin opened her mouth to reply, "I'm just-"

"Oh dear, you're not going to cry for me while I'm gone, are you?" Sehun feigned fake concern.

Somin chuckled, shaking her head, "Not over you. Not in a thousand years."
