Under the Dwindling Sky

Description :

Under the fading sky, the stars appeared to be falling down, the world melted away. Night time whispered to us as everything around us fell apart, something we knew already, something that ran deep in our veins, something we learnt on the way. Our erratic pulses beat to the rhythm of our hearts and we knew in that moment.

We fell for each other all over again.

In which Jay wants everything out of life, but he wants it all with Aquella. Well, at least they can cross falling asleep under the stars off their 'to-do' list.

Excerpt from the story :

He protests, "But there are still so many things I want to do." His eyes light up as he speaks passionately about the rest of his hopes and dreams, "I want to skydive, I want to bungee jump, I want to travel the whole world, I want to climb the highest mountains, I want to watch sunsets over the ocean, surf the waves, explore and venture every dark corner of the Earth, I want to fall asleep under the stars..." he pauses and sighs wistfully to himself, "I want that. I want all of that out of life, you know?" He asks me as if seeking out someone who can relate to him. "I want it all, but with you."

"Ugh. Why isn't this heater working?!"

I kick the stupid thing once again but it still refuses to start working. I groan in frustration before shivering a little once again from the cold. It was the time of fall and it wasn't that cold but I could still feel the chill nipping at my neck.

I hear the sound of that familiar chuckle coming from behind me. I don't even have to know who it is. Giving up on the piece of metal, but not before kicking it one more time, I turn around to see Jay leaning against the door looking at me with amusement written all over his face.

I huff and try one last time to make it work before glaring at him for laughing and making no move to help me.

"Yeah, okay. Go ahead and laugh while I freeze my butt off in this cold."

He swallows his laughter, trying to keep the smile off his face as he makes his way over to me and wraps his arms around me, engulfing me in his warmth, his scent surrounding me completely. He places his chin on my shoulder, hugging me tightly from behind. Feeling much warmer, I sink into the warmth of his chest as I wrap my own arms around the ones placed on my torso.

Even such a simple gesture made my stomach flutter at the feeling of being so close to him.

I don't think this feeling will ever change. The affect he has on me is unreal and will never fade away.

"You still cold?" He speaks softly in my ear, though I could practically hear the amused smile he has on his face.

I slap his hands lightly as he laughs, pulling me closer. His embrace is warm and his big, strong arms holds my body firmly against his. Whenever with Jay, I feel complete. The world melts away till there is nothing left except for the both of us. I have learned to cherish every moment between us and not let them just pass away, even the small ones. Because even those matter. A lot. And just like any other, I don't want this moment to end either.

"Hey listen. Everyone's nearly knocked out in the living room. You want to go to the roof?" He asks me from behind, still not letting go.

The whole gang was spending the night at Xavier and Emma's house. We spent the whole day eating pizza and playing video games before exhaustion eventually took a toll on us. Benley was too busy drinking (seriously, the guy's an alcoholic), Landon and Xavier were fighting as usual and Sarah and Emma have stopped trying to intervene, just ignoring them when they are like this (which is like, all the time) and laughing away.

Ryan and Dean were busy competing and killing each other, and Zac and Max were throwing popcorn at them to throw them off their game. Everyone else passed out early, bundled up in blankets and pillows to keep the cold away.

I turn around in his arms, patting Jay's cheek lightly, "I want to stay away from the cold not freeze myself out by staying the night on the roof." I smiled sarcastically and cheekily at him as I replied sassily.

He groaned and clenched me tighter, "Oh come on Aquells, it's not that cold. It'll be fun. And I'll protect you from the cold. You don't have to worry."

He sends me a playful wink like the cheesy goof ball he is.

I think about it but it but wasn't exactly sure.

"Hmm. I don't know..." I trail off while he looked at me with an eye brow raised, waiting for an answer.

"Hey, we don't have to if you don't want to." I rolled my eyes before grinning at him and pulling him with me, making my way to the rooftop.

I stop on the way, looking down and Zac who was passed out on the floor. He looked comfortable. Hmm, can't have that. I tugged hard at the blankets along with the pillows, leaving him cold without any protection. I laugh when he opens one eye and curses at me.

"Damn you, Aquella." He yells at me, his voice groggy, and he shows me the finger. I keep laughing, not bothered by him at all and keep walking with Jay trailing behind me shaking his head with a small smile on his face.

I shrug back at him and opened the door to the roof.

Jay takes the blankets and pillows from my hand before arranging them on the floor for us to lay down. He propels himself on the floor, now covered with one of the blankets before motioning for me to sit next to him.

As soon as I make a move to sit down, he tugs at my arm gently yet firmly, causing me to drop right on top of him without any inch of space separating us. He grins up at me boyishly, wrapping his around around my waist so I won't be able to move aside.

I huff and push my hair which were falling in front of my face to the side. I got comfortable in the position I was in and look down at him to see that he was looking at me with an intensity which made my breath hitch in my throat.

He slowly leans up, shifting his body weight along with mine on his forearms before kissing me with a passion that renders me speechless and makes me want to never let him go. He moves his lips along mine slowly, coaxing me to respond back as fervently as him. And I do. I cup his jaw in my hand, bracing myself with one hand on his shoulder as our breath mingled together.

He slowly, with a sense of reluctance, parted our lips, his forehead resting against mine. His eyes twinkled and sparkled as the stars above us as we regained our breath.

He sits up with me practically straddling him and brushes away the strands of hair that managed to fall over my eyes. He tucks those strands behind my ear before stroking my hair gently, causing my eyes to flutter close. He lightly massages my scalp before placing a kiss as gentle as the breeze and as soft as a feather on my temple, a small gesture which meant more to me than anything ever could.

I open my eyes once again and see him looking at me with a seriousness and burning intensity in his sparkling blue eyes. He pulls me closer, hugging me and resting his chin on my head as I tuck my head in the crook of his neck, taking in his warmth, his presence, in. And in the night, under the stars you barely see in the city covering the sky, he said, "I love you Aquella. So damn much." He pulls back a little, not separating us but enough to look at my face, "You are so beautiful." He cupped my face before placing another kiss on my lips, "And I'm so glad to have you in my life."

He pulled me back into the hug before we lay down, covering ourselves with the warm, soft blankets, never letting go of each other. In his arms, the cold long forgotten, I succumbed to the tiredness.

Before drifting away to sleep, I mumbled against his chest, "If I die of hypothermia, I'm gonna come back from the dead and kill you."

He laughs, sending vibrations across my body. The last thing I remember is feeling him kiss the side of my head as I slept with a smile on my face.
