Chapter 1
"Mom, dad, sis, get up, please! Why won't you get up," the young Latios asked his family. He was unaware that they had fallen under the spell of Darkrai, and were beyond saving. The Latios and 2 Latias just laid there on the floor of their cave, as their life force dissipated. The Latios was now alone in the world, an orphan, and missing his other half.
The Latios collected himself and left the cave, tears stinging his eyes as he flew. He flew through the night, with no direction, until he became tired. He found another cave, one that he knew was populated, but by what he thought were less powerful beings. He flew into the cave, and rested on the ground. But, when he awoke, he was surrounded by a pair of Lati dragons.
"Hey, you're finally awake," the Latias said. "Where did you come from," the Latios asked. "I-I don't know where I lived, I just lived with my family until today. They fell asleep and never woke up," the second Latios said through his tears. "Hey, hey, it'll be alright, we can be your new family," the Latias cooed as she stroked the Latios' head.
"Wyatt, Rilee, who's in the cave," another voice asked from outside. "Dad, it's another Latios, and he's alone, without his parents or his twin," the other Latios said. "Wait, Wyatt, Rilee? Are you Pokémon or humans?" "We're Pokémon, our parents just like to give us human names," the Latias explained.
A larger Latios flew inside the cave, looking at the orphaned Latios. "I see, your family fell under the curse of Darkrai, causing them to fall asleep nigh indefinitely, while killing them with terrible and inescapable nightmares." "W-why did they, did they die? Why were they taken from me," the Latios asked as he sobbed. "Not everything happens for a reason, it was just by chance," a larger Latias said.
"It's okay, we can be your family now," Wyatt suggested. "We may not be able to bring your family back, but we can at least try and heal the hole left in their death," Rilee added. "Th-thank you, I would like that," the young Latios sniffed, giving his adoptive family a smile. "Well, welcome to our family," the Latios said. "From this day forward, you will be known as Thomas," the Latias declared.
[Years Later]
"C'mon, dad, can you show me how to do it," Thomas asked his adoptive father. "I can't show you how, it's not something you can learn through watching me do it. You just visualize the form you want to take, and will your body to take it. It can hurt a bit the first time, but once you get used to the changing process, it becomes second nature." Thomas' father began glowing and changing, before taking a human form and quickly changing back.
"Wow, that seems pretty cool," Thomas said as he looked at the exit to their cave home. "Thomas, are you thinking about humans again?" "I can't help it, they're so interesting to watch. And seeing that I can do that only makes me more interested. Maybe, one day, I might be able to walk among them, see what they do firsthand."
"Oh, how you remind me of myself when I was younger. I won't stop your dreams." Thomas continued to practice the transformation, getting closer and closer every time to creating a human doppelganger of himself. He hoped that one day, he would be able to pass as a human, even for just a day, and see what they do firsthand. But, that day would come sooner than he thought, and at a terrible price.
Thomas, Wyatt, and Rilee were talking in their cave while their parents were out gathering berries. "One day, I want to explore the regions and see all the Pokémon in the world," Rilee said. "I want to have children and teach them to be kind to all Pokémon, so that if they do, by chance, become trainers, their Pokémon will be stronger than the competition," Wyatt said. "I'd like to live among humans, live a life similar to one of theirs," Thomas said. Then, their parents came in, bloody and exhausted, their mother's eyes blank.
"Dad, what happened? Why is mom like that," Wyatt asked. "Kids, your mother and I were gathering food, when a hunter got us. Your mother has already passed, and I'm soon to go." "No, dad, you can't die, you can't leave us behind," Rilee cried desperately. "I'm sorry, but I can't stop it, my time on this world is up."
"No, no, this can't be happening! I can't lose you too," Thomas cried back. "Thomas, I know that you don't want to go through losing me like you did your family, but you just have to power through it. This experience will make you stronger, and grow as a Pokémon, as a person." It was evident that the Latios' time was almost up, as he was now coughing up blood.
The young Lati dragons gathered around their father, hugging him as he passed away. When his life force faded, they made a plan on what to do. "We should find another place to live, far away from humans," Wyatt suggested. "S-sure, sounds good, I'll catch up in a second," Thomas mumbled. His adoptive siblings nodded to him, before taking off into the late noon sky.
"This can't be happening, I have to be dreaming. I can't have lost my adoptive family, and only 3 years after losing my real one. Where do I go from here?" Just then, the body of the Latias began to glow a white color, like she would be taking a human form, when it began to shrink into a spherical form. When the glow dissipated, the Latias had turned into a small, milky, and blue orb.
Thomas picked up this orb, and felt a soothing feeling flood every inch of his body. His father's body also underwent the same transformation, until two identical orbs were all that was left of his adopted parents. He took the orbs and sped off in the direction that his siblings went in. He followed what he thought was their path for hours, even flying over the ocean, and only noticed he went too far when he flew over an unknown region. He was nowhere near the tropical archipelago he used to call home, and was now flying over a flat, grassland region.
Thomas was getting tired at this point, and needed to touch down to rest. He made a hard landing into the backyard of a house, it's residents racing outside to see what the commotion was when he did. "David, go see what it was! It might be dangerous," Thomas heard a woman inside the house say. A pair of humans came out, gasping when they saw Thomas laying on the ground.
"Arceus alive, a Latios. Why is it here," the man asked himself. "Lati, Latios," Thomas said, not realizing that the people couldn't understand him. "Um, we don't exactly understand what you're saying," the woman reminded Thomas. "Well, can you understand this," Thomas asked telepathically.
"Yes, we can, thank you," the man responded. "Now, as I was saying, oh, why is life so cruel?" "Wait, what happened to you," the woman asked. "My parents, my adoptive parents, they were killed by a hunter. This after my real family died 3 years ago when they fell asleep and never woke up," Thomas said, as tears began to sting the corners of his eyes.
"Hey, hey, it'll be okay now. We're here for you. Do you have a name, by chance," the woman asked. "Yes, when my parents adopted me, they named me Thomas. I've been called that for 3 years, so I would prefer it not be changed."
"Well, Thomas, I'm David, and this is my wife, Linda. We have a spare room you could use," David said. He and Linda took Thomas to a bedroom in the back of the house, and let him get settled. Thomas floated around the room, looking at the furniture and devices inside.
Thomas enjoyed the room, and looking at the objects inside, but being in the room made him feel uncomfortable. "This room, it's made for a human, and not a Pokémon like me. Wait, that's right, I could take a human form. Erm, should I, though? I mean, I'm not used to the process, and I've never even made my human form all the way."
Thomas ignored his fears, choosing to try and perfect his human form. He started the process, his body shifting, stretching, and though it hurt, he never stopped. He kept going, kept transforming, until it was complete. Thomas fell to the ground, behind the bed that was in the middle of the room. "Ow, that really hurt," he thought to himself.
He tried to stand up, before falling back down. He propped himself onto his knees, just high enough that his head was above the bed. He noticed a mirror on a nightstand next to him, and grabbed it. He saw that his eye, like in his Latios form, were a blood red color. He moved the mirror down, and saw that his hair was the same color blue as his scales in his Pokemon form.
He set the mirror back and tried a few more times to stand up. He had almost gotten the hang of it, but the 4th time, the door to the room opened, sending Thomas back to his knees. David and Linda saw Thomas' human form, and stood there, mouths agape in shock. Thomas stared back at them, embarrassed and unable to do anything. They kept this stare exchange for a few seconds longer, before Thomas turned back into his Pokemon form.
"T-Thomas, what was that," Linda asked. "Were...were you just a human there," David asked. "Y-yes, that was my human form. My adoptive father taught me how to do that before he passed. That was my first time finishing the process," Thomas responded.
"Y-you're not lying, a-are you," Linda asked. Thomas just sighed and went through the transformation again, changing from a blue and white dragon to a human child with red eyes and royal blue hair in front of the adults, concealed by light as he did. "There, now are you sure that I'm not lying?" "Yes, Thomas, we're sure now," David said. "Thomas, I forgot to ask, how old are you," Linda asked.
"6, I'm 6 years old, why?" "Well, Thomas, we were planning on capturing you, but because you can take a human form, you could be pretend to be our son," Linda said. "But, won't it be suspicious, because of my hair and eye color?" "Well, that would only be a problem if you became a trainer. We don't get very many visitors here, so it's unlikely that anyone would see you," David said.
"Hmm...my brother always talked about training Pokémon, and how a Pokémon's power is based around trust and friendship with it's trainer. Being a Pokémon myself, I would most likely be able to form a stronger bond than most trainers with my Pokémon." "Well, once you practice being in your human form, you'd be indistinguishable from a normal human, minus your red eyes and blue hair. But, we have things that can change those temporarily, like hair dye," Linda said. "Well, that certainly sounds foolproof, I'll do it!"
Thomas turned back into a Latios and flew over to David and Linda. He wrapped his arms around the two of them, before beginning to cry tears of joy. "T-thank you, I was worried that I would never find anyone else to take care of me." "Don't worry, Thomas, we'll take care of you until you become a trainer," Linda said. "From this day forward, your name is Thomas Daines, and you'll be our son," David said.
