The Sheriff
AN: This chapter is taken from my own perspective of the law enforcement, and while I may go in and double-check some facts, I will not always do so. The facts often relate to areas in the building and the types of weapons used, such as the Ruger JC9. And I'll tell you now, I tried to make the officers down below as real people with different thought processes on different situations.
TL;DR, not all info about the police in this chapter is correct and please don't send hate.
George looked out the windows from the backseat, handcuffs keeping his arms pinned behind him. Dream had tried a few times to unlock them, the Brit stopping him every time. They needed all the trust points they could get and hopefully keep, as to put George as a more believable person and model citizen. Plus, he needed to prove that he could at least keep his friends in order after a certain dragon about knocked down an officer while the dog grew to the size of a wolf. So the blob just sat best he could on the shoulder.
Bad and Sapnap were both half on and half off his lap, the dragon on his left with Bad on the right curled up on the seat. Between George's lap and the dog crate they were originally planning on, the answer was obvious for the two. What really helped seal the deal on letting the two stay next to George were two of the officers that had first encountered the group. Granted, George didn't fully believe that the younger officer was pleased with this plan, as the elder one was by far more supportive of the idea. Plus, them being able to keep their food helped a bunch with Sappitus nappitus.
Heading down the lazy part of town, George watched as the buildings and palm trees went by. As the scenery passed by, thoughts of earlier came by.
After one of the two officers had called in for reinforcements when Sapnap had snorted fire at them as they approached his British friend, the second had asked George to call off the 'lizard'. More in self-defense than anything, what looked to be the rookie had his Ruger LC9 switching between Sapnap and George. The second and more experienced officer had tried to keep any violence to a minimum till reinforcement could arrive by talking to both parties. Things like 'hands in the air' and 'lower your weapon' were heard, both landing on the deaf ears of the dragon and the rookie.
Food on the ground and hopefully out of the fight zone, George agreed with the second officer's command. Bad had come up by Sapnap, growling softly as to try and get the dragon to give up his stance. Shaking at the now black wolf, the growl was followed by a fumbled gunshot.
Only pavement and some foliage were harmed thankfully, half of the round breaking off and the other half ricocheting into the burning restaurant's flower bed. But the round was enough to send Sapnap launching himself at the rookie. The officer, having taken notice as George ran forward to try and stop the orange lizard, rather than pulling out his own pistol had instead pulled the rookie back.
Reinforcements had arrived with two firetrucks, a quarter of the arrivals taking on the group while the rest went to aid the fire-fighters. While George didn't grab Sapnap, the rookie was pulled out of the way before the dragon could inflict any damage in that one reach. Well, besides the wing slap, but it could have been a lot worse. And another (stronger) blast of fire from the dragon was both expected and a surprise.
He had yelled at Sapnap, not realizing that he had 4 or 5 rounds aimed at his head. Bad and Dream had taken notice however, the two growing in size. Bad was honestly just trying to protect George, Dream the same but on a more intense level. Having caught Sapnap's attention again, the light had been diminished slightly by a wolf reaching at least 2.7 meters standing over the two.
The OG officer, rookie taking ranks along the rest, had tried his best to look at the situation. For one, his rookie was basically attacked by a dragon (though the bullet fire didn't help, so that was excused). Second, a giant wolf was standing over the said dragon and it's person, growling at the rest of the officers. Third, a white/yellow-tinted blob in the basic shape of a human, looking like it was holding a hardened shield and a blade of sorts was sizing up to 4 of the officers. The thing had a black line mimicking a smile and two brown dots making crude eyes on what could be called its face.
Noticing that it was Bad above him, George had crawled out and tried to calm them all down. The second officer had taken his side, as while the blob warrior would hiss and feint it would never outright attack. Same with the wolf and the dragon.
"Everyone. Stand down. Sir, you get your, . . . animals to calm down while we lower our guns. That seem fair?"
George had agreed, keeping Sapnap in his arms as he tried to call off Dream. Bad was by far the easiest to quiet down, as he didn't need a translator. Who knows which started the other, but the wolf had sat down and half the squad had put away their pistols. Then again when they had put away their weapons they made sure they were on the far-side of their vehicles.
Having no luck with the blob, George had passed Sapnap off to Bad, to which one in particular was not pleased with. Calling out his friend's name George confidently, yet cautiously, approached the warrior form from behind. Hand sunk a little into the white mass when George had grabbed his shoulder, the brown/red eyes darkening back to black when they met George's brown. With a grumble, the white man shrunk to the point where they could easily be picked up.
One agreement, an arrest, and a pat-down later put George up to date.
The car slowed down a bit, and with a look through the wire barrier confirmed that they had reached the station. The OG officer had agreed to ride with them, the rookie had wanting to ride in a different vehicle. A female officer had opened the door for George, reaching in to take the bad of food on the floor while helping the Brit stand up.
"You sure they'll stay with you?" She jestered to the three as they all made their way onto the pavement. Bad immediately got close to George, Sapnap doing the same. Dream remained on the ball of the shoulder, giving a nod to the brunette.
"Yeah, I'm sure. And if you do dare to run off, I'll make sure you never hear the end of it." George said to no one in particular. Letting out a soft chuckle when noting that the dragon was acting innocent, the officer lead them inside, the other taking up the rear.
Being led down the past the general public area, George watched as the female officer gave a sign of sorts to a person in the reporting room. Said person nodded, and headed into a different part of the building. George couldn't see the officer behind him reaction, but he could hear a sigh.
In the back were the cells were, George was free of his metal restraints as he was put behind the bars. During this however, he was relieved of his phone, hotel key card, and the other hundred bill. His food must have already been moved into inventory. Just the other officer was about to take George's 'goggles', Dream had lost his patience. With a shriek and a white tendril, the decision to let the glasses stay was made, at least until they could find a way past the angry blob. With a signature that George did indeed own all the things and nothing more, he watched his stuff get passed onto a lucky passerby.
"You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in court, and you are allowed to consult a lawyer before and during questioning. If you don't have one, we can-" The second officer started, only to get cut-off by the female. "We'll appoint you a lawyer."
"Jeezus, Chrissy. Not this sh*t again."
"Well any other lawyers aren't going to do this man any good if he does get taken to court."
"A word?" Making sure that the cell door was locked, the second led the female into another part of the building where George couldn't hear them. Sapnap had gone up to investigate the bars, Bad staying next to George. Despite having a snout instead of human facial features, the Brit could tell that he wasn't feeling the best about the situation.
"It's not your fault Bad. We didn't do anything, and I'm sure this mess will all come out as a big misunderstanding." George gave the doggo a gentle pat on the head, Sapnap having come over and joined them. Dream had rubbed his head against the Brit, trying to comfort him a little bit.
It wasn't long before the female came back, the other officer most likely having given up or left for another case. She also had a trolley of sorts with two metal crates and a glass container tailing behind her.
"Do you want to speak to a lawyer now or during questioning. And speaking of, did you have lawyer in mind or want us to appoint you one?"
"Well. Yes I'll- he, nevermind. I would like to be appointed a lawyer, and I think I'll give them a call during the questioning. And those I assume. . ." Bad and Sapnap had already retreated to behind the Brit, the dragon giving a low growl at the thought of being stuck in there.
"Let's say that the three companions on ya are making everyone nervous. I'll make sure that they'll be with ya in the interrogation room however." She gave a sympathetic smile, unlocking the door and maneuvering the trolley inside. The door was then locked again.
"I'll wait till all of ya are ready."
Leaning her back against the wall and facing away from the cell, the group were basically alone again. Getting up, George looked at the crates. They seemed to just be normal large dog crates, the only difference being the metal sides and the unlocked padlock hanging on the grated door. And the glass cylinder was a curious sight as well, basically looking like someone took a jar and pounded holes into the lid and added memory foam at the bottom. The jar also had extra clasps on it.
"Well." And that's all George could say at the moment. Fur brushed up on his left, the nervous doggo obviously not thrilled of the idea but still deciding it best. Sapnap had stayed on the bench, not agreeing with the idea of being treated like a dog. Dream was in George's blind spot, so he couldn't tell how his friend was reacting by looks alone.
Swallowing what pride he had, "The quicker we get this done the quicker we can get out of here."
Casting another glance between George and the crate, Bad started to slowly step inside, tail hanging low and ears flat. The dog bed shoved in there helped ease Bad's nerves a bit as he turned around in the small and darker space. Laying down, he silently pleaded that George wouldn't lock the door.
"It's alright. You'll be out in no time." Giving a warm pat to Bad, George only did half of the wimpy lock on the door instead of the padlock. Now the challenge truly began.
Plastered to the bench, Sapnap had wound his tail whatever way he could to help secure his grip. Rather than trying to pry him off with force, George instead tried to get him to relax.
I will never bring this up again for as long as I live.
George forcefully shoved the idea of him petting his friend out of his mind as he continued to stroke the dragon's spine. No, all George was doing was petting a furless cat. Just a cat with really really dry and hard skin. The cat now cradled in his arms, "It's alright. You'll be just fine." as he walked over to the crate.
Giving a worried look at George, Sapnap remained clung to his shirt.
"Sapnap, it'll just be for a little while, and you'll be right by me the entire time. Ok?"
Mumbling out what could be an 'alright', Sapnap let go of his grip and headed into the upper crate. After laying down, George did the same lock trick as he did on Bad's. Now all that was left was the blob on his shoulder. At least the blob that should've been on his shoulder. Nearly grabbing Dream by mistake when he blindly reached for the jam jar, a squeak was quick to have George ease up on his grip.
White mass released, George worked to undo the lid.
"You'll be out again before you know it." He responded to the sad look on the Dream's 'face' as the lid came off with a pop. Getting onto George's offered hand, the blob continued to look at the jar. Slowly starting to slide Dream into the jar, George wasn't all that surprised when he found that Dream wasn't moving from his spot.
"Hey, it's alright." George set down the jar in order to Dream as best of a hug as he could manage. Odd hug/head rub taken care of, Dream didn't stick to George's hand when he tried the jar again. Blob in the glass, George just screwed on the lid and called that good.
Not hearing anymore struggles of getting the three humans in disguise contained, the female officer unlocked the cell door.
"Let's get ya booked quick and into interrogation, or questioning, before we even dare start thinking on court." She replied after cuffing George again, most likely due to station standards, stepping back out to lead the way. The rookie from earlier had come into the room, double-checking that the locks were secure.
Being led away, George lost sight of his friends but he could hear their distressed shrieks and growls as the padlocks clicked behind him.
Finger-printing, photo shoot, and finding a lawyer all done, (and in a faster time than he had originally thought) George was finally sent to the interrogation room. To no surprise he was greeted with happy rumbles when he came through the door.
(I'm lazy, and I still have a lot to write that was the main/only reason why I went this route {and yet I still didn't get there })
After answering some questions, the interrogator had asked George if he had any other witnesses to the case besides the officers at the scene. Bad had let out a bark, startling the interrogator at the unexpected noise.
"Well. Yes and no. I have three friends with me, but they can't really. Speak."
Pinching the bridge of his nose, "Alright. I think that covers most of it. I'll be looking through this an-" The door behind George opened, with only he could presume as the ever-cheery officer.
"Before you let 'em go, I have a few questions myself." She calmly replied, already moving to replace the interrogator's seat. With a huff but no words, the man left, "I already got the recording done and set-up, but can you please turn off the camera?" The brunette asked before the door closed.
Watching as the red light in the camera go dark, a smile came to her face. Opening four files, she presented them to George. Not much information was on the front page, the photo on each taking up a large portion. In fact, all other printed information was obscurded.
"Have you seen any of them this morning?"
Scanning the faces, he didn't notice that the officer had got up and granted temporary freedom to the three others. At least until he heard a thump next to him as Sapnap jumped onto the table. The first face was one he had caught briefly in the restaurant, the female blonde to be exact. Moving over to the file of Highlight, it took him a second to realize that blonde and Highlight were probably twins. Obsidian had his own file, face only partially seen as he looked to be running from the camera. And the fourth was odd, the young female sporting platinum dyed hair.
"Yeah. I saw the two guys earlier this morning at {insert hotel name}, seeing them again and the blonde in a booth in the restaurant. I didn't get a good look, but I think the other one was back in the booth as well. Are they criminals?"
"Yeup. The worst of the worst. That information, plus video footage, puts ya in the clear. You're no longer a suspect. "
"They're that bad? But, but these two," He slid the files on the brothers over, "They helped me get away from a crowd of people. And from what I saw earlier at the resort, I would have never assumed they were at large." Sapnap had grabbed the file for the older female and started tapping impatiently on it.
"Just a sec." The officer went digging through a small bag on her personnel, pulling out a small pill container. Opening the small white and labelless tube, she shook out a few pills. "First time I recon?"
It took George a full minute to realize that the question wasn't directed at him, but rather the other three.
"What? What are those for?" George asked as Sapnap poked curiously at one of the pills before it was scooped back into the container. By the odd rumbles, George figured that the dragon was trying to ask if they were drugs or something close to it.
"Hehe. How ironic is it that the number 1 wanted person by the station is also the one that supplies my dis-stressors? These pills help block this from happening." On command, rough brown fur crawled up her arm as moose antlers and ears had become apparent. "And knowing that said person has a tendency to mess around with things they shouldn't, I am honestly not surprised. So. Tell me what all happened."
George explained the trip starting from when they first got the invite, the weird behavior Dream had for an hour (in hopes of an explanation), the dragon encounter, the storm, and all the way to the fight in the airplane.
"And when I woke up again, I was in the hotel room."
Through the entire retelling of the story, the moose officer had stayed quiet but listening intently. "So I imagine you have questions. But first, let's get all of ya out of here and out of Fredrick's hair. Don't worry 'bout locking the crates; long as they stay shut they'll be fine."
Relief swept through them all as the now normal-looking officer headed back out the door, presumably to update the rest on his case. She also made sure to take the files with her.
"Yes! We're in the clear!" Sapnap roared alongside the Brit, Bad happily wagging his tail and Dream with a laugh/wheeze of sorts. Cherishing the moment for a minute or two, George remembered what they needed in order to get out.
Arriving at a small house out on the coast, (after a stop at the hotel for some stuff), the Muffinteers were led down the gravel path. With the click of a doorknob and a clicking of claws on tile, the group had settled down in the living room.
"Oo boi. Now it's time to unpack a lot of stuff. So. Fir-. Just a sec." She started before pausing at the attentive position the guests were all in, getting up and starting to dig through her bag. Pulling out the container from earlier, "Let's just do one for now, and preferably one at a time. In theory this should get you back to human form.
Shaking out three of the horse pills, she passed one to each of the non-humans. While Bad was tempted, he waited a little. Dream just kinda, who knows. Absorbed it? Sapnap didn't hesitate, immediately crushing the capsule in his teeth before forcing it down his throat.
Hacking at the taste as it hit his tongue the officer, Chrissy as George confirmed on the way here, made her way to the kitchen to get a glass of water. Wings flaring, George subconsciously pulled Bad and Dream closer to him as the dragon grew more to the size of Sapnap. The snout shrank back, the extra limbs merging back into the skin. Some scales also dove back under the skin as Sapnap had started to get his hair and face back.
"Ugh. That was disgusting! How do you even take thos-"
Despite having been around Sapnap all day, George had given the man a hug, simply thrilled of the thought of not having to carry around a dragon anymore. George heard the officer walk in, walking back out a second later. With a reentrance, a large blanket was chucked at both of them, George simply caught in the crossfire.
"Bathroom's down the hall, second right. Go get some clothes on you freaky mutant Shallawa."
Realization hit George like an oncoming train. Taking the blanket and making sure it was wrapped around his shoulders, George helped turn Sapnap towards the hall.
"I can walk on my own, George."
"Then give me a good reason of why I had to carry you for over half of this morning."
With a quick snatch of some of their belongings, the door closed behind the Sappitus Nappitus. Setting down a round of water glasses, Chrissy looked between the three.
"I have more blankets, and I'll let you use the guest bedroom if. What did you call him? Sapnap? Is still in there."
Bad carefully took his many-colored pill in his mouth before looking down the hall. Chrissy caught the message, and led the doggo down the hall with a wide glass/bowl. George followed suit, giving another hand to help haul belongings into the small bare bedroom.
Door closed, George could hear some grumbles from behind the bathroom door as they went by. In the living room, Dream had somehow made his way from the couch to the table. Checking that at least one person was nearby, he downed the pill.
Slipping onto the floor, the blob had started to steadiy get bigger. The tendril he had used to hold the capsule had started to look more firm, like bones were growing back. A blanket chucked onto the blob blocked George's view, the house going somewhat quiet.
Grumbling as he came back out, Sapnap sat on the couch. While most of his draconic features had disappeared, there were still small orange scales on the back of his hands and near the elbows. Guessing by the way the fabric caught at random, George took a guess that there were more rhomboid scales along his spine.
Bad came a minute later, looking pleased in his hoodie again. The two guys honestly had to hold in a laugh at the fluffy tail still visible, Sapnap failing poorly.
"Not. A. Word." Bad stated, heading over to a cushioned chair, wolfish ears flat against his head. Small horns poked out from his hair, quickly getting hidden when Bad pulled over his hood.
"Where's Dream?"
"He's on the flo-"
"Right here." Having snuck his way to the bathroom, Dream came back out in his trademark hoodie. Hands in his front pocket, he sank into the couch. At first glance Dream looked fully normal, till you looked at his face. But even then you would just assume that he was wearing a white mask. Sending George a sincere smile, the blonde was glad to finally be at eye-level again with George.
"Your hair was really soft."
"Really? First thing you have to say it's that?"
Catching a small wheeze, "WhaT?! Would you rather I say you had small hands?"
"No! Next time you're a blob I'll trap you in a jar and keep you in there."
"Not if you can't catch me."
Yelling as he tackled the Floridian to the floor, George didn't care that Dream was still missing almost half his skeleton. One arm wriggling out from under the Brit, the white tendril pinned both of them down.
"DREAM!"
"You started it! Get off!" The comment was followed by a broken tea kettle.
"I CAN'T!" The two struggled to get an advantage over the other, the stand-still evident. After a minute or to, the duo had slowed down their brawl. But that didn't stop Sapnap from taking a few photos of them for blackmail later. Bad had just enjoyed seeing them interact like one hadn't been a blob for most of the day.
Relaxing his grip on the Brit, Dream was then helped up by the midget. Chrissy had a mixture of confusion, concern, and humor on her face, 'These are the knuckle-heads she chose? W-why. Just why?' she mumbled mostly to herself. Taking claim of the living room, "Everyone good?"
All of the guests back in their seats, three out of the four gave back a nod. The one with the bandana was the only one who didn't agree.
"Can I get my food?"
One round-trip to the microwave later and everyone was ready.
"Alright. Guess I better get started. But first, any questions?"
The next chapter will be more revolved around your guys' interaction. I will be answering several questions in the dialogue. The more questions I get the more info I will give in the next chapter. Some I will not answer, as I will withhold certain pieces of info for later in the story. Granted, if I get no one with a burning question, then that's that. Very basic and I won't go too far into depth.
But if you have had any questions on things, take your chances and leave them here.
As of now ya'll have until Nov 4th to get them in. I'm tired of waiting and want to write!
